Chapter 3: The Emperor's Peasant Wife 2

Chen Xiaoru sat down on the creaking wooden stool, the system's mysterious words echoing in her mind, saying that the "body fragrance pill" could cure Xuanyuan Che's hidden illness.

She curled her lips and took out the so-called miracle drug from the system space. She took a closer look and saw that it was just a small red pill. She put it under her nose and sniffed hard, but couldn't smell anything. She couldn't help but mutter:

"Is this thing just a bluff?"

She rolled her eyes and made up her mind. It wouldn't hurt to try anyway. So, she picked up the small pill and put it in her mouth. As soon as it touched her tongue, it melted like ice. A cool feeling slid down her throat and instantly spread throughout her body.

Apart from the coolness, there was nothing special feeling.

"System, how do I get close to Xuanyuan Che?"

Chen Xiaoru asked in a low voice, her voice a little nervous.

"Be patient and wait."

The system's voice was gentle, "He will be here soon."

The night wind blew, stirring the straw hats swaying in the thatched hut. Chen Xiaoru's eyes fell on the dilapidated doorframe, and her heartbeat quickened unconsciously. The darkness outside seemed to hide some secret at any moment.

Suddenly, a faint sound broke the silence.

Chen Xiaoru pricked up her ears alertly. The sound was like someone dragging heavy footsteps, struggling to move outside the door. Each step was accompanied by a subtle friction sound and a suppressed groan.

She stood up quietly and moved cautiously to the door. The wooden floor creaked slightly under her light footsteps.

Her fingers rested lightly on the door latch, she took a deep breath, and slowly pushed the door open a crack.

Moonlight poured down, illuminating the scene outside the door.

A tall man stood staggering in the doorway. His figure was slender and upright, and even in his current state of disarray, he still exuded an unyielding aura. Blood dripped down his clothes, forming a gorgeous flower on the ground. Then he collapsed to the ground with a loud thud.

Chen Xiaoru's heart suddenly shrank and almost stopped beating. She stared at the man lying at the door with her eyes wide open.

His sword-like eyebrows slanted down to his temples, his nose was high, and his lips were tightly pursed. Even though his face was as pale as paper, it couldn't hide his innate kingly aura. His clothes were tattered and bloodstained, shocking to the eye, but his closed eyes still revealed a sharp majesty.

"System, is it him?"

Chen Xiaoru's voice trembled a little, and she subconsciously held her breath, fearing that she would disturb the man in front of her who she didn't know whether he was dead or alive.

"That's right, host, he is the current ruler of a country, Xuanyuan Che."

The system's cute voice rang out in Chen Xiaoru's mind, with a hint of excitement, "Your chance has come!"

Chen Xiaoru's heartbeat quickened. Her palms felt icy cold, and her clothes were soaked with sticky sweat. She had never witnessed anything like this before. Fear, nervousness, excitement—all these complicated emotions mingled together. She had never imagined she would meet the king of a country in this way.

But she quickly calmed down. She knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down.

Chen Xiaoru no longer hesitated. She flung the door open and rushed out. She didn't care about the mud and gravel on the ground, nor did she care whether her frail body could bear the man's weight. She used all her strength to drag Xuanyuan Che into the thatched hut.

"What did this guy eat to grow so heavy?"

Chen Xiaoru took great pains to drag him into the house.

She was so tired that she was panting, her forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat, and her slender arms were trembling slightly from the excessive exertion.

She laid Xuanyuan Che flat on the straw blanket and, in the dim moonlight, examined him carefully. His face was horribly pale, his lips chapped, and his breathing was weak, as if it would cease at any moment. Blood continued to seep from the wounds on his body, staining the straw beneath him red.

"Even with such serious injuries, he can still run. Amazing! Let's save him quickly! If we don't save him, he'll be dead."

Then, she frantically dug out some clean cloths and herbs from the shabby wooden box at the head of the bed. These were the things the original owner usually used to treat minor injuries and illnesses. Although simple, it was all she could do at the moment.

She first used a clean cloth to carefully wipe the blood off Xuanyuan Che's body. His skin was cold and hard to the touch, which reminded her of the system's description of him as "tall and handsome." She didn't dare to dwell on it, and could only focus on tending to the wound.

When she touched the hideous wound on his waist and abdomen, Xuanyuan Che's body trembled violently and he uttered a painful groan. His tightly closed eyes also trembled slightly, as if he was about to wake up.

Chen Xiaoru was startled and stopped moving her hands. She stared at Xuanyuan Che nervously, afraid that he would suddenly wake up.

However, he only moved a little before he became unresponsive again. His breathing remained weak, and his face became even paler, as if he would die at any moment.

Chen Xiaoru didn't dare to delay any longer. She gritted her teeth and continued to bandage his wound. Her movements were very gentle, for fear of hurting him, but her hands were still shaking unavoidably.

The smell of blood filled the small thatched hut, mixed with the bitter aroma of herbs, making it feel suffocating. Chen Xiaoru's stomach churned, but she suppressed her nausea and bandaged the wound.

After doing all this, she was exhausted. She collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath, feeling as if her body had been hollowed out.

"hiss--"

A low cry of pain broke the silence.

Xuanyuan Che suddenly opened his eyes.
