The next day, as soon as Chen Xiaoru stepped into the company's door, she felt that the atmosphere was wrong.
Countless gazes swept over her like searchlights, carrying scrutiny, mockery, and outright malice.
She felt uncomfortable being stared at and slowed down her pace.
"What happened to them?"
Chen Xiaoru muttered to herself, her brows furrowed tightly. She pretended to be calm and continued walking forward, but she found that those gazes not only did not subside, but became even more unscrupulous.
As she approached the tea room, she heard a few low voices talking inside. Although she couldn't make out the specifics, the whispers and occasional sneers made her feel uneasy.
Chen Xiaoru couldn't bear it any longer. She stopped, turned around abruptly, and looked directly at several female colleagues who were walking out of the tea room.
"You guys, what's going on?"
Chen Xiaoru's voice was not loud, but it carried a sense of oppression. Several female colleagues were startled by her sudden action, and a trace of panic flashed across their faces.
"No, nothing's wrong."
A woman with chestnut-colored hair spoke first. Her eyes flickered and she didn't dare to look Chen Xiaoru in the eye. The water cup in her hand swayed, spilling a few drops of water.
Another slightly plump woman simply turned her head to the side, pretending to be looking at the posters on the wall, but her tense body and slightly trembling shoulders revealed her inner anxiety.
"Nothing, why are you staring at me?"
Chen Xiaoru took a step forward, her tone becoming even sharper. "Also, I seemed to hear someone talking about me just now. Can you tell me what they were talking about?"
The chestnut-haired woman turned pale under the pressure and stammered:
"No, we didn't say anything, really, you, don't think too much..."
"Nothing?"
Chen Xiaoru sneered and swept her eyes across the faces of several people.
"You don't look like you're not saying anything. Since you won't tell me, I'll go and find out for myself!"
After she finished speaking, she ignored them and turned to walk towards the president's office, leaving her female colleagues looking at each other with panic and anxiety written all over their faces.
As Chen Xiaoru walked, she thought to herself:
"Who is behind this rumor? And why are they doing this?"
She bit her lips tightly, her eyes full of determination.
"No matter who it is, I won't let him go!"
Chen Xiaoru tried to recall if she had accidentally offended anyone recently. After much thought, she came up with only one possibility—the conflict at the hotel the day before yesterday. But who was that woman?
A trace of anxiety crept into her heart, and Chen Xiaoru decided to go to Chu Tianche to find out.
She took a deep breath, walked to the door of the president's office, raised her hand and knocked on the heavy wooden door. "Dong Dong Dong," the crisp knocking sounds echoed in the empty corridor.
"Come in." A low and magnetic voice came from inside the door.
Chen Xiaoru pushed the door open and entered, the scene of the CEO's office coming into view. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows took in the panoramic view of the city, and sunlight streamed onto the soft carpet, casting a warm glow.
Chu Tianche was sitting behind a large desk, flipping through documents intently. His gold-rimmed glasses reflected the light from the window, making him look exceptionally calm.
"Mr. Chu, excuse me, can I ask you something?"
Chen Xiaoru walked to the desk with a hint of trepidation in her tone.
Chu Tianche raised his head when he heard the voice, put down the documents in his hand, and looked at Chen Xiaoru's face with deep and calm eyes.
"What's up?"
Chen Xiaoru met his gaze, hesitated for a moment, and then asked:
"Boss Chu, do you still remember the woman I kicked in the hotel that day? Who was she?"
Chu Tianche frowned slightly, with a hint of surprise in his eyes.
"Why are you asking about her all of a sudden?"
Chen Xiaoru clenched her palms, her nails almost digging into her flesh. She tried to keep her voice calm, but the anxiety and grievance in her tone were difficult to conceal.
"There's gossip circulating around the company about me, saying I seduced you and sold my body to get ahead. I usually keep a low profile, and aside from the one time I offended someone at the hotel, I can't think of anyone else who would target me like this. So, I wanted to ask you, what is the identity of that woman?"
At the end of her speech, her voice was trembling.
Chu Tianche's eyes became sharp. He leaned back slightly, leaning on the comfortable black leather chair. His slender fingers tapped lightly on the table, making a rhythmic sound. The atmosphere in the office instantly became solemn.
“Nonsense!”
Chu Tianche's voice was low and tinged with anger. "You believe this rumor? Are all the people in the company just bored and have nothing to do?"
He paused, his eyes becoming more profound, "As for that woman..."
His tone softened a bit, but still carried a hint of seriousness. "Her name is Su Qing, and she's the daughter of the Su Group."
Chen Xiaoru was stunned. Su Group? She was familiar with the name. It was one of the largest companies in the city, powerful and influential in the industry. Su Qing was actually the daughter of the Su Group?
“Su Qing…”
Chen Xiaoru murmured to herself, as if she understood something. "So, she spread rumors in the company because I offended her?"
Chu Tianche nodded, with a hint of helplessness in his tone.
"I'm afraid so. She's been spoiled since she was a child and has a bit of a domineering temper. You embarrassed her in public that day, so naturally she won't let it go."
Chen Xiaoru's face became even paler, she bit her lips, her heart filled with grievance and anger.
