Chen Xiaoru was wearing a professional suit and a pair of big glasses, and it was hard to tell what her son liked about her.
Mother Chu's gaze stayed on her face for a few seconds, then she slowly spoke with a cold voice: "Secretary Chen, I think you should know why I came to see you."
Chen Xiaoru's expression changed slightly, but she quickly regained her composure. She raised her head, looked directly into Mother Chu's eyes, and said in a neither humble nor arrogant tone, "Old Madam, I...I don't quite understand what you are saying."
Mother Chu sneered and sat down on the chair opposite the desk. She crossed her legs and raised her chin slightly, with an attitude of "I am the queen":
"Are you playing dumb with me? Fine, I'll tell you what I'm saying!"
She leaned forward, her eyes with delicate makeup staring at Chen Xiaoru, as if she could see through her.
"Where were you fooling around with that brat Tian Che yesterday? Don't think I don't know about your little shit!"
Chen Xiaoru's face turned slightly pale, but she remained calm and replied, "Madam, President Chu and I were together yesterday, but we were just..."
"Just what?"
Chu's mother interrupted her, her tone aggressive, "Just talking about work? Or just... talking about work in the hotel?"
Chen Xiaoru's body trembled slightly. She bit her lower lip and said nothing.
Seeing this, Mother Chu became more certain of her guess. She sneered and continued:
"Secretary Chen, I don't care what happened between you and Tian Che, but I want to tell you that Tian Che is my son, and his future wife can only be Amelia Su. You... better be sensible and stay away from him!"
Chen Xiaoru's face turned pale. She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging deep into her palms. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and said calmly:
"Madam, there is nothing between Mr. Chu and me. You are insulting me by saying this."

Mother Chu seemed to have heard something funny. She raised her head and laughed heartily, "Secretary Chen, you are so naive! Do you think I will believe your nonsense? Chen Xiaoru's body was shaking like a sieve. She raised her head suddenly, her eyes red, and stared at Chu's mother. Her voice was not loud, but it was squeezed out from between her teeth, with a fierce determination:
"I won't resign! I've done nothing wrong, so why should I? Just because I'm broke and powerless, do I deserve to be trampled underfoot and bullied by rich people like you? I'm telling you, although I'm poor, I have backbone! If you want me to bow my head, dream on!"
After saying that, she grabbed the documents on the table and threw them to the ground with a loud "bang".
