When Chen Xiaoru heard this, her heart suddenly tightened, pounding wildly. She knew he recognized her. But years of work experience helped her calm down quickly. She slowly raised her head and met Chu Tianche's gaze.
In those eyes, there was inquiry, anger, and a hint of...an emotion she couldn't understand.
Chen Xiaoru took a deep breath and tried to make her voice sound steady:
"Boss Chu, what do you want me to say?"
She smiled, a smile that held a hint of self-mockery.
"Calling to tell you that I was fired by the old lady? What else can I say besides this? After all, you and I... don't have any special relationship, right?"
After she finished speaking, she looked at Chu Tianche with clear eyes, but her hands unconsciously clenched at her sides, and her fingertips turned slightly white.
Chu Tianche frowned even more tightly, and he took a step forward, approaching Chen Xiaoru.
"Chen Xiaoru, you know that's not what I'm talking about." His voice was low and dangerous, full of oppression.
Chen Xiaoru felt Chu Tianche's breath coming towards her and couldn't help but take a step back, her back against the cold wall. She suppressed her inner panic and pretended to be calm and asked:
"Then...what does Mr. Chu mean?"
Chu Tianche was irritated by her attitude, and a sneer appeared on his lips. He suddenly put his hands on the wall on both sides of Chen Xiaoru's head, trapping her in his arms.
"Since you insist on playing dumb, I'll help you recall."
Chen Xiaoru's body trembled slightly, and she felt Chu Tianche's hot breath brushing her cheek.
The sudden kiss made her mind go blank, and all the explanations and excuses she had prepared disappeared without a trace.
Her hands pressed weakly against Chu Tianche's chest, but she didn't have enough strength to push him away.
