Song Qingshan pushed open the creaking wooden door and saw his elder brother Song Zhe sitting on a stone bench in the yard.
He was stunned for a moment, then a look of surprise blossomed on his face. He ran to Song Zhe in a few steps, and his voice was trembling a little: "Brother, are you...able to get out of bed?"
Song Zhe supported himself on a stool and stood up little by little. His body swayed as if he would fall down at any moment.
He raised his hand, wanting to touch Qingshan's head, but it took several tries before he finally touched it. He grinned and wanted to say something, but his throat was dry and hoarse, as if it had been rubbed by sandpaper: "Hmm... much better... but still... not quite there yet."
Chen Xiaoru stepped into the yard with a basket in her hand, her eyes almost popping out, "Oh my god!" Song Zhe was actually sitting there!
She rushed to Song Zhe, her eyes looking as if she wanted to look through him, her voice cracked: "You...how did you sit up? Can you move? How are you? Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Song Zhe smiled slightly and said softly: "Xiao Ru, don't worry, I feel much better."
"That's good. I'll put the things in the kitchen first." Chen Xiaoru said, turned and walked towards the kitchen, and Xiaoyu followed behind her with her short legs.
Throwing the basket onto the stove, Chen Xiaoru rushed out again and stood in front of Song Zhe. She stared at Song Zhe's face, her brows knitted into knots. After a long while, she managed to utter, "You...you're not...holding on, are you? Don't act like you're having a last gasp!"
Song Zhe's forehead veins bulged, and the corners of his mouth twitched. It took him a long time to utter, "You...can't you say something nice?"
The warm atmosphere was instantly frozen by Chen Xiaoru's words. Song Zhe's face turned as black as the bottom of a pot, while Song Qingshan looked at her with a look that said, "Are you stupid?"
"Haha, you guys chat, I... I'm going to go see if the rabbit is dead." Chen Xiaoru laughed dryly, feeling like a fool, and quickly found a lame excuse to slip away. If she stayed any longer, she was afraid that Song Zhe and Song Qingshan's murderous gazes would skin her alive.
She picked up the basket, ran to the well and started to process the rabbits. The little fish followed her obediently like a little tail, without any noise or trouble.
Suddenly, a noise came from the gate, breaking the tranquil atmosphere. Huang Chunhua and Song Qingqing appeared at the door, both of them carrying bags full of things, obviously they had just returned from shopping in town.
As soon as Huang Chunhua entered the yard, her eyes fell on Song Zhe who was standing in the yard. She was stunned at first, then her eyes widened suddenly, and the thing in her hand fell to the ground with a "clang", and she didn't bother to pick it up.
She rushed to Song Zhe in a few steps, grabbed his arm, and said in a trembling voice: "Zhe'er! You...you can stand up?!"
Song Qingqing was also stunned. Her mouth opened wide, unable to close for a long time. The basket in her hand slipped to the ground, and the contents rolled all over the floor. She came to her senses and immediately rushed over, shouting excitedly, "Brother! Are you really okay?!"
Song Zhe looked at his mother and sister crying like a tearful man, and his heart was warm. He nodded vigorously, his voice still a little hoarse, but every word was earth-shaking: "Mom, Qingqing, I'm fine, I can stand up!"
When Huang Chunhua heard this, tears immediately welled up in her eyes. She hugged Song Zhe tightly and cried uncontrollably: "Okay... okay... God bless me... God has finally opened his eyes!"
Song Qingqing also threw herself into Song Zhe's arms, tears falling like beads from a broken string. She cried and said:
"Brother, you scared me to death! I thought... I thought you would never be able to stand up again in your life!"
Song Zhe patted his sister's back gently and comforted her:
"Silly girl, don't cry, isn't big brother fine?"
Huang Chunhua cried for a while and finally stopped crying. She held Song Zhe's hand and looked him up and down, as if she could never see enough of him.
She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and asked with a choked voice, "Zhe'er, you...what's going on with you? Didn't the doctor say...didn't he say that you will..."
"Mom, I don't know what's going on."
Song Zhe's voice was filled with a hint of relief at having survived a disaster. He looked up at Huang Chunhua, his eyes full of gratitude. "After taking the medicine this morning, I was half asleep and felt like there were ants crawling on my toes. It was numb, itchy, and a little stinging. At first I thought I was dreaming, but then the feeling became more and more real, so I tried to move my toes, and guess what? I actually... I could move them!"
I was so excited that I almost jumped out of bed! I tried to push myself up, and although it was still hard, I felt like there was a chance!
I was just trying to see if I could stand up, and… well, it actually worked! However, not long after I stood up, I felt dizzy and weak all over, as if I had run dozens of miles.
"This morning's medicine?"
Huang Chunhua muttered to herself, frowning slightly, thinking to herself: The medicine in the morning is the same as usual, the only difference is that Xiaoru brought it in today. Could it be that Xiaoru did something?
Chen Xiaoru cleaned the rabbit neatly, and walked over to the well while holding the cleaned rabbit and humming a little tune.
When he looked up, he saw Huang Chunhua standing in the yard in a daze. He quickly stopped talking and called out sweetly, "Mom, you're back. Have you bought rice and everything?"
Huang Chunhua suppressed the doubts in her heart, nodded, and replied, "I bought it."
"That's a good feeling,"
Chen Xiaoru's face lit up with joy as she shook the rabbit in her hand. "I made a rabbit today. Let's have something delicious today."
"Okay, sure," Huang Chunhua said, turning to Song Zhe with a look of concern in her eyes. "Help Zhe go to his room to rest. I'll do it. He's just getting better, so he shouldn't be exposed to the wind."
