Chen's father also hurried back at this time, followed by a doctor in a white coat and two nurses. When the doctor saw Chen Xiaoru's posture, he took out a syringe without saying a word.
"Doctor, what are you doing?" Chen Xiaoru was startled and instinctively shrank back. This needle is so scary!
"Sedative." The doctor spoke briefly and sparingly.
"Tranquilizer?!" Chen Xiaoru's eyes widened. "I'm not crazy, why would I need a tranquilizer? I... I just want to recall the past, I..."
Before she could finish her words, the doctor had already quickly inserted the needle into Chen Xiaoru's arm.
"Oh..." Chen Xiaoru only had time to let out a short cry before she felt a chill spreading along her blood vessels. Then, her eyelids became heavier and her consciousness gradually became blurred.
"I... I haven't... figured out... the situation yet..." This was Chen Xiaoru's last consciousness before she fell into a coma. She felt like a computer that was forced to shut down. The power was unplugged before the program was finished running.
Mother Chen watched her daughter fall asleep again, her heart aching and tears streaming down her face. Father Chen held her hand tightly, silently comforting her.
The doctor examined Chen Xiaoru and confirmed that she was fine. He then said to her parents, "It's normal for a patient to be emotionally agitated after just waking up. You should comfort her and try not to irritate her."
Chen's father and mother nodded repeatedly, indicating that they would follow the doctor's advice.
After the doctor left, the ward returned to silence. Chen's parents sat by the bed, watching their sleeping daughter with mixed emotions. They were happy that their daughter had finally woken up, but also worried that she wouldn't be able to handle this sudden change.
"Host? Host? Wake up! Don't sleep anymore!" A mechanical voice called out frantically in Chen Xiaoru's mind, just like an alarm clock that disturbs people's dreams in the morning, and the kind that can't be turned off.
Chen Xiaoru suddenly opened her eyes, her gaze dazed, like a chick just hatched from its egg, unable to tell east from west. "Where am I? Who am I? What am I doing?" she posed three ultimate philosophical questions in quick succession.
"Oh, my host, you're finally awake!" The system's voice carried a hint of relief at having survived a disaster. "This is my space station. Don't worry, we're both safe now!"
"Space station? The two of us?" Chen Xiaoru rubbed her temples, feeling as if a thousand horses were galloping through her mind, turning it into a chaotic mess. "Who... are you?"
"I am your system! Have you forgotten? Before, we..." The system was about to explain incessantly, but suddenly it got stuck, as if the pause button was pressed.
"What happened before?" Chen Xiaoru asked.
"Before... what happened before is not important!" The system's tone changed and became serious. "Host, I want to say goodbye to you and return your own memories to you."
"Saying goodbye? Still remembering? What does that mean?" Chen Xiaoru felt like a broken toy, about to be ruthlessly abandoned.
Without further explanation, the system immediately activated the "memory transfer" program. Chen Xiaoru felt her mind churning as countless images flashed through her mind like slides: childhood, school, work, the car accident...
"Wait, a car accident?!" Chen Xiaoru was startled, and the fragments of her memory finally pieced together into a complete puzzle. She remembered that she had been in a car accident and was in a coma for a long time...
"Host, goodbye." The system voice became weaker and weaker, and finally disappeared completely.
Chen Xiaoru opened her eyes again and looked at the familiar yet unfamiliar white ceiling. She felt empty inside, as if she had lost something important. She seemed to have had a very long dream. In the dream, there was a guy who called himself "the system" and accompanied her through many strange and bizarre things. But she couldn't remember what they were, just like formatting a hard drive, clearing out all the data and leaving only a blank space.
