Seeing Fu Jingsheng in a flustered state, Rong Yan went over to help.
The woman scooped up some river water and rinsed it off Fu Jingsheng's nose: "It's clean now, but it was quite down-to-earth just now."
Fu Jingsheng stretched his neck: "Straighten my hair, my hairstyle can't be messed up."
Rong Yan pushed Fu Jingsheng's head: "No one's watching anyway, so you should relax a bit when experiencing life."
Fu Jingsheng looked around and found that no one was watching, so he let go and grabbed it.
After two hours of fruitless work, the man sat by the river in a daze, beginning to doubt his own ability to survive.
Rong Yan nudged her husband's arm: "So what if we didn't catch it? We're not professionals."
Before coming over, Fu Jingsheng had boasted that he would have dinner with his friends in the courtyard house that night, a whole fish feast. They would even cook the fish themselves using an open-air stove, with everyone having a clear division of labor. He guessed they were probably just waiting for Fu Jingsheng's fish to come back.
How am I going to explain this? Buy a few fish? Then go back and tell the truth.
"A whole fish feast," Fu Jingsheng uttered.
Rong Yan had almost forgotten about this.
She quickly called to the other villagers who were about to leave and bought a few fish to put in a basket.
"Fu Jingsheng, are you still thinking about it?" After walking for more than ten minutes, Rong Yan asked Fu Jingsheng, who was still looking sullen.
The man sighed: "I'd better tell the truth. I can't lie. Even if I'm looked down upon, I should be honest."
“No one will look down on you. Everyone is here on vacation. No one is more capable than anyone else. Fu Jingsheng, we can’t do everything. You’re already very good…” Rong Yan stopped and gave her husband a hug. “Come on, smile.”
Fu Jingsheng forced a smile: "As long as you don't think I'm embarrassing."
Rong Yan shook her head frantically. How could she possibly think that way? She herself couldn't do any housework.
"Same to me." The woman stuck out her tongue. "I can't even cook, hehe."
In the courtyard of the guesthouse, the other three couples had indeed prepared the ingredients for cooking fish. They stood by the stove, waiting for Fu Jingsheng and his group.
Rong Yan walked ahead excitedly, and as soon as she stepped one foot through the door, she exclaimed happily, "The fish are here!"
Everyone stepped forward; the basket contained several different kinds of fish.
Several people poured the fish onto the edge of the well and worked together to remove the scales and entrails.
"Brother, you're pretty capable," said the friend across the hall.
Others also praised Rong Yan and her group. Some said that their families were from the countryside and their parents' generation knew how to catch fish, but they couldn't catch any when they went back. It's true that people who are good at business are excellent in other aspects as well.
Fu Jingsheng felt guilty listening to the praise. After a while, he confessed that he had bought the fish.
"We didn't catch them." Fu Jingsheng recounted what had happened, then shook his head and sighed.
"Brother Fu, you're still great."
"Exactly, she thinks she can do everything, like she's a superhero. My Zou Yuan can't even mop the ground properly, what can I say?"
Zou Yuan hadn't expected his wife to compare him to others while comforting them. He had been smiling, but suddenly his face darkened: "Wife, how could you expose my shortcomings?"
"To be honest, if we didn't always argue at home, would we be out having fun?"
"That's because you're the one making trouble. If I don't mop the floor properly, my mom will. As long as someone else does the mopping, it's fine. During winter break, you come home from get off work and see me on the sofa and you get angry."
“Your mom, your mom, your mom can be with us for a lifetime. I just want to know if you can survive if you leave your mom.”
...
Rong Yan was shocked; how could she have comforted Fu Jingsheng in such a way?
“Fu Jingsheng, look at you, so dramatic, you’ve caused Xiao Ai and the others to have a fight.” Rong Yan deliberately criticized her husband.
Everyone else was stunned and embarrassed; no one had expected that a few fish could ignite a fight.
After realizing what had happened, everyone went to comfort Mr. and Mrs. Zou.
The dinner was not enjoyable. Later that night, after everyone had left, Rong Yan lay on the sofa, propping her chin up with her hand, looking across at the other side of the room, wondering if Zou Yuan and the others would continue arguing when they got back.
She felt guilty.
"Fu Jingsheng, go and see them," Rong Yan said.
Fu Jingsheng was never good at comforting people, especially since the conflict between Zou Yuan and his wife was caused by him. The man sat motionless, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag.
“Go.” Rong Yan repeated.
"I'd better not go and cause trouble. There's no noise from the other side, which means they're not making a fuss." Fu Jingsheng listened carefully and could only hear the croaking of frogs.
Rong Yan stood at the door and looked around; everything seemed calm.
"When couples argue, it's okay to talk it out. It won't last long, don't worry." Fu Jingsheng took his wife's hand and led her back into the house.
At 10 o'clock, Shen Xingzhi sent a video call.
"Finally awake?" Rong Yan hadn't received a reply from her best friend all day.
"Look at you being so sarcastic. Why are you thinking about me so much today? I just saw you sent me a lot of photos. Did you have fun?" Shen Xingzhi had rested for most of the day and her energy had returned. She started chatting on the phone with Rong Yan.
"Isn't it because I want to share beautiful things with you?"
Shen Xingzhi sat on the balcony: "Rong Yan, Yu Wenhao and I had a fight."
Rong Yan burst into laughter after hearing this: "Impossible, you're kidding me. Yu Wenhao is so introverted, didn't you say you couldn't even start an argument? A cold war?"
Shen Xingzhi puffed out her cheeks: "Should we break up? We're sisters, we almost broke up, and you're still laughing?"
"I'm curious about how they argued." Rong Yan didn't believe her best friend's story at all, because Shen Xingzhi always complained before. Many times she was so angry that she would confront Yu Wenhao, but Yu Wenhao remained silent. It was like punching cotton; she could only sulk.
"Besides, didn't you just want Yu Wenhao to argue with you? You finally got your wish, so why the long face?"
Shen Xingzhi: "He went on a drunken rampage. We argued yesterday because of it, and I even brought up breaking up today, but he stopped me. But now that I've calmed down, I realize I need to think carefully about this person. Do you know how terrifying he is when he's drunk...?"
Shen Xingzhi described what she remembered, and Rong Yan listened with a chill down her spine. Images of her uncle abusing Gu Hannian flashed through her mind. It was quite terrifying to see someone unable to control their behavior after drinking.
However, she couldn't completely dismiss Yu Wenhao just because of one outburst. But she also needed to tell her best friend about the potential consequences in the future.
As for how to decide, that's Shen Xingzhi's business.
Fu Jingsheng, who was listening to his wife's conversation with her best friend, frowned. Unless that person never drinks again.
"Rong Yan, tell the truth," Shen Xingzhi said.
“I couldn’t control myself after drinking too much. He didn’t lay a hand on me, did he? He just smashed some things, but we can’t rule out what might happen in the future. Xingzhi, you can observe him for a while longer.” Rong Yan didn’t give a definitive answer.
"Ah!" A shout suddenly came from outside the door.
"Rong Yan, what's that sound?" Shen Xingzhi stopped and asked.
