Chapter 398 The Reflection on the Glass

At the company, Fu Jingchen walked with a brisk pace, and it was clear at a glance that he had been in a good mood these past few days.

My colleagues started gossiping again while having afternoon tea.

I think the boss secretly signed a big deal and is going to surprise us with it when we get paid next month. Otherwise, why would he be all smiles all the time?

It's possible.

Doesn't Assistant Zhou look exhausted? I bet she's secretly working overtime, getting all tired from preparing documents for the boss.

...

Fu Jingchen overheard the discussion while changing his cup in the tea room and tapped the table: "Don't you know it's bad to gossip about others behind their backs?"

"President Fu?" The group turned around and bumped into their boss, then awkwardly dispersed.

After returning to his office, Fu Jingchen's gaze fell on Zhou Luo's face; the woman did indeed look more tired than before.

He moved Zhou Luo's laptop aside: "This afternoon I'll pretend to send you out to run some errands, and you can go back and rest."

"What do you mean?" Zhou Luo looked up in surprise and asked.

Fu Jingchen relayed what he had just heard, and added at the end: "It's my fault. I'll leave work on time today, and go to Wang's tonight to buy some bird's nest or something to nourish you."

“No need…” Zhou Luo drew out the last syllable, “If they ask me, I can explain. I stayed up late watching dramas last night and didn’t get enough rest.”

Zhou Luo recommended the show she was watching to her colleagues a few days ago, so no one would doubt that she said that.

Fu Jingchen insisted on giving the woman some nourishment, saying that there was no harm in taking care of herself, and Zhou Luo finally agreed.

When Rong Bing arrived at the company building, the security guard recognized her as soon as she got out of the car.

The security guard came out of the duty room and stopped the woman. Before Rong Bing could speak, he said, "Miss Rong, I'm just an employee. Please don't make things difficult for me."

Rong Bing was gentle; she knew she couldn't be forceful. She took two cups of milk tea from her handbag and handed them to the security guard: "Here you go. I won't make things difficult for you. Just call President Fu for me, and I'll wait here."

The security guards dared not accept ice's things. They had been upset twice before, and Fu Jingchen had been furious, blaming them for their mistakes and letting Rong Bing go upstairs.

This plague god, the farther away the better.

"Miss Rong, this is against the rules. You can call yourself. Mr. Fu's office landline number remains the same." The security guard refused to call. Fu Jingchen had instructed that Rong Bing should not be announced when she arrived.

"I can't get through on my phone," Rong Bing said. "How about I borrow one of your phones?"

The security guards exchanged glances and shook their heads simultaneously: "Miss Rong, it's not that we're worried about the phone bill, we just really can't afford to make the call. We rely on this little bit of money to support our families, really. Why don't you go over there and borrow some? There are a lot of people passing by at this hour."

"He told you not to announce my arrival?" Rong Bing understood the implication in the security guard's words.

"Well, so Miss Rong, this is a difficult situation for us."

Unexpectedly, Rong Bing didn't make a scene. She limped to the side of the road and waited for someone to pass by.

The two security guards watched the woman's retreating figure and discussed in hushed tones.

"What if Mr. Fu and Miss Rong just had a fight and made up later, and Miss Rong blames us for being heartless?"

"That can't be right. We just follow the boss's orders."

"Who knows? After all, Mr. Fu and Ms. Rong have broken up more than once. They made such a big fuss before, but they still got back together."

"You mean you're letting Miss Rong in?"

...

While the two security guards were still hesitating, Rong Bing had already borrowed a passerby's phone. She dialed Fu Jingchen's number, and upon hearing Rong Bing's voice, the man's good mood was shrouded in gloom again.

"Jing Chen, I'm sorry, I said we wouldn't see each other again, but I'm here again. But I have something to do this time. When I was packing my things yesterday, I found that you left a shirt behind, so I brought it to you," Rong Bing said, making an excuse.

Fu Jingchen knew without even thinking that it was an excuse.

"I'm busy, I have an important meeting later, I'll leave my clothes in the security room," Fu Jingchen said.

Rong Bing was stunned upon hearing this, and it took her a while to come up with a new reason: "I don't feel at ease if I don't hand it over to you personally. I'm free this afternoon. I'll wait for you at the convenience store downstairs after your meeting."

Fu Jingchen was about to lose his temper again. He knew this woman was making excuses. Otherwise, she could have just put down her shirt and left. Why was she waiting for him? Wasn't it just to see him?

"Rong Bing, I'm really busy, I might not have time," Fu Jingchen said, suppressing his anger.

"Then I'll bring it up to you, it'll only take five minutes at most." Five minutes is enough time for her to ask the shadow on the window.

Fu Jingchen knew that Rong Bing wouldn't give up until she saw him, so he said, "Then wait a moment, I'll come down to find you when I'm done."

"She's here again," Zhou Luo asked after Fu Jingchen hung up the phone.

The man looked troubled: "You heard me say I had a meeting. She'll have to wait downstairs. You know her temper. If I don't go down, she'll make a scene and come up here. She'll want to see you in my office, and who knows what will happen. Make her wait for an hour, and don't let it happen again."

Zhou Luo sighed heavily: "You said when she came a couple of days ago that this was the last time. Rong Bing's words are not credible at all. Are we going to keep compromising?"

Fu Jingchen understood the situation, but he couldn't find a better solution. He thought that if meeting Rong Bing would stop her from making a fuss, then meeting her wouldn't hurt.

"Luo Luo, I'll be right up in five minutes. She said she left my shirt with her. I'll deliver it this time, and there's no excuse next time. I'll come over as soon as I get it."

"Well, that's the only way. By the way, she asked me about the video yesterday, saying the shadow in the window looked like you. If she asks you again, just say how could that be? You were at the company all day yesterday." Zhou Luo guessed Rong Bing would ask, so he told Fu Jingchen first.

Rong Bing waited for an hour before finally seeing Fu Jingchen.

The man walked expressionlessly toward the convenience store and greeted the woman under the parasol: "Rong Bing."

The woman looked up at the sound and saw Fu Jingchen. Her lips involuntarily parted, and her still-healing wound suddenly started to hurt.

She immediately shut her mouth, covered half of her face, and looked down: "Am I ugly right now? Don't look at me."

Fu Jingchen found Rong Bing's appearance rather comical, and he suppressed a laugh: "Be more careful in the future. Why are you drinking alcohol by yourself? Wouldn't it be better to drink juice? Since you're still injured, why are you running around? Stay home and rest."

"Jing Chen, are you concerned about me?" Rong Bing was overjoyed.

"Did you hear that? Where are your clothes? Give them to me and hurry back. Your face is still swollen." Fu Jingchen pretended to be concerned.

Rong Bing handed the clothes to Fu Jingchen: "Well, Jingchen, I have something to ask you."

"explain."

Sure enough, Rong Bing mentioned the reflection in the glass.

Fu Jingchen laughed and said, "My shadow on the glass? The day before yesterday? Are you kidding me? Did my soul leave my body? Do souls have shadows? I've been so busy these past two days, working overtime every day. Don't jump to conclusions. Maybe Zhou Luo has a boyfriend but is too shy to say it, and you're just playing matchmaker."

"It's good that it wasn't you." Rong Bing's tense heart finally relaxed.

"Rong Bing, our situation today has nothing to do with anyone else. It's because we didn't manage things well. Let's move forward," Fu Jingchen emphasized again.
