Rong Yan had no choice but to give up the idea of continuing and put on her clothes as if nothing had happened.
She went to wash up, and Fu Jingsheng opened the door. The children stood outside the door calling for their father to have breakfast.
"I'll be right there," Fu Jingsheng said, bowing.
Rong Yan washed her face with water, changed into her everyday clothes, and went out for breakfast.
Rong Shiyu brought her mother a sesame seed cake.
Rong Shimo peels eggs for her grandmother.
Fu Jingsheng kicked his son and gave him a wink.
Fu Yunlei looked up: "Dad, why did you kick me?"
"Look how well-behaved your little sister is, get me an egg," Fu Jingsheng ordered his son.
Fu Yunlei didn't move, puffed out his cheeks and said, "Dad, your arms are so long, you can hold it yourself."
Fu Jingsheng: ...
"Dad, let me get it for you." Rong Shimo stood up.
Fu Jingsheng's expression changed drastically when he looked at his daughter, and wrinkles appeared at the corners of his eyes as he smiled: "Daughters are the best."
Fu Yunlei and his brother pretended not to hear while they ate their own food.
They didn't plan to visit any tourist attractions today; the focus was on the hotel.
Several children arrived at the swimming pool early, waiting for the friends they had just made yesterday.
Han Yue couldn't sit still. Seeing her son and the others, she said, "You all watch them, I'm going to walk around."
"Xiaoyu, over here." Fu Yunting saw the familiar face from afar and waved his hand as he called out.
The little boy walked over, holding his father's hand.
Rong Yan and Fu Jingsheng turned around and nodded to the stranger.
"Xiaoyu, come here." Fu Yunlei came up from the pool and took his new friend's hand.
"Hello, uncles and aunties," the little boy greeted them politely.
"Hello, little friend, go play." Rong Yan touched the little boy's hand.
The woman's smile was as radiant as spring flowers, momentarily captivating the adults around her.
Memories overflow the sea of time.
Xu Yajie never expected that he would have the chance to meet Rong Yan in his lifetime.
But Rong Yan clearly didn't recognize him.
Yes, back in college, I felt invisible, introverted and insecure. I always had to be mentally prepared before greeting Rong Yan.
Even though they were in the same club, Rong Yan couldn't even remember his name in the graduation photo.
Rong Yan was quite busy at that time and often missed club activities, but he never dared to miss them in order to meet Rong Yan.
Fu Jingsheng noticed the strange man staring at his wife, so he quickly covered her with the bath towel he was holding.
He thought to himself, "This man is so rude. How can he be so disrespectful on our first meeting? If the father is like this, how can the child be any better?" Fu Jingsheng subconsciously looked at the pool and saw that the little boy named Xiaoyu was having a great time and wasn't being naughty.
Rong Yan felt awkward being stared at, so she asked softly, "Hello, what's your name?"
"Hello, Rong Yan," Xu Yajie called out the woman's name directly.
Fu Jingsheng unconsciously straightened up. Good heavens, they even know their names. It seems they were spotted as soon as they arrived at the hotel. So this was a premeditated date, taking advantage of the children's friendship to actually get closer to the adults.
Rong Yan was also stunned: "You know me?"
"I know him." Xu Yajie nodded without hesitation.
"Why are you staring at someone else's wife right away? And even asking about her name, what are you up to?" Fu Jingsheng stood in front of his wife.
"Inquire?" Xu Yajie looked puzzled. After thinking for a while, he guessed that Fu Jingsheng had misunderstood.
"Xu Yajie, Xinye Literary Society," the man introduced, emphasizing each word.
Rong Yan only had a vague impression of the name, but when the name Xinye Literary Society was mentioned, she understood. Could this person be a member of the literary society, or a college classmate?
What a coincidence!
“You were always absent from the literary society activities back then, so you probably don’t remember me, but I remember you. I didn’t expect to meet you here. It’s been so long.” Xu Yajie suppressed his excitement.
"Oh, what a coincidence! Hello, old classmate." Knowing the man's background, Rong Yan spoke more freely.
Fu Jingsheng stared at the two of them, completely bewildered.
"Let me introduce you, Fu Jingsheng, my husband, and also our college classmate," Rong Yan said, linking her arm with Fu Jingsheng's.
"I know, to be precise, you are my juniors. I graduated a year earlier than you." After exchanging a few words with Rong Yan, Xu Yajie gradually relaxed.
"Hello senior, I am Rong Yan's husband, Fu Jingsheng." Fu Jingsheng added a qualifier before his name and casually put his arm around his wife's shoulder to assert his ownership.
"Senior, please sit down." Rong Yan moved her things aside.
Fu Jingsheng quickly sat down in the middle.
Xu Yajie sensed the man's hostility and, to break the awkward atmosphere, shifted the topic to the children.
"Xiaoyu kept talking about Xiaoyun and the others when she came back yesterday. Your family is only a year older than Xiaoyu, but they are much more sensible than Xiaoyu. They played together yesterday and took good care of Xiaoyu." Xu Yajie praised the Fu family children.
Rong Yan said modestly, "Xiaoyu is also sensible. Xiaoyun and the others have been talking about it for a long time since they came back. They couldn't wait to come over after breakfast today."
Fu Jingsheng, however, had a smug look on his face: "He inherited it from me."
Rong Yan tapped her husband from behind, signaling him to keep a low profile.
Fu Jingsheng cleared his throat and said, "Your child is even better."
Hello to your home.
Rong Yan: ……
“They’re all fine. Look at them, they’re like fish.” Rong Yan interrupted the two of them.
Clearly, this chance encounter was not pleasant; Rong Yan felt that Fu Jingsheng was hostile towards Xu Yajie.
It wasn't until Fu Jingsheng said he was going to the restroom that things started to change.
Xu Yajie then dared to chat with Rong Yan for a few minutes: "How are you doing? We have an alumni group, and I checked it several times and found that you were not there. Your classmates said that you are not even in the class group, let alone the alumni group."
"Oh, right, I'm not good at talking. I joined a group once, but I left after being tagged a few times." Rong Yan made up an excuse. In reality, she didn't join any groups because she was rejected when she confessed to Fu Jingsheng in college. She felt like she had become a laughing stock of the whole school, and she didn't want to face those who had seen her confession. They were like mirrors, reflecting her unbearable past.
"Actually, many classmates have tried to contact you in our group chats, asking if anyone has your contact information. Everyone said no, and I guess even if they did, they wouldn't give it to you." Xu Yajie had already guessed the real reason. "Your classmates really miss you. I didn't expect to run into you here. Can we add each other on WeChat?"
“Sure.” Rong Yan took out her phone.
“There’s an alumni reunion in August. Would you like to attend? I’ll send you the process. Let me know if you’d like to go,” Xu Yajie asked.
"I won't participate. I haven't been in touch with everyone, and it would be awkward for me to suddenly show up. Besides, I have social anxiety..." Rong Yan refused without even looking at her.
"This alumni reunion is quite important, as it coincides with the centennial celebration. The theme is 'Reunion Celebrates Youth,' and Professor Zhang, who was the most popular student at the school, will also be attending." Xu Yajie knew that Rong Yan respected Professor Zhang the most.
"Professor Zhang Jingzhi? She must be over eighty years old now. Will she attend?" Rong Yan was indeed interested when she heard that Professor Zhang would be coming.
