Han Yue hesitated for a moment.
There are many electric bikes on Tiancheng Road, but she doesn't know how to ride one, and of course, she's never ridden on anyone else's electric bike.
"Old Deng, you'll get a fine for carrying someone on the back of an electric bike, right?" Although she had never driven an electric bike before, Han Yue was still somewhat familiar with the rules for using them.
“It’s fine here. We won’t go onto the main roads. Besides, we’ll stop as soon as we see traffic police.” Old Deng patted the seat again. “Get in. It’ll save you from walking. My car can go forty kilometers.”
"Put on your helmet." Old Deng had bought a helmet for Han Yue sometime earlier. "It's inconvenient to drive in the alleys, and walking is slow."
Han Yue took the helmet, but she didn't know how to put it on.
The two ropes were tied together; if you wore it directly, it would hit your head.
Old Deng realized that Han Yue couldn't untie the belt, so he got out of the car to help her.
"There's a button here. Press it to open it, then press it back up after you put it on. Try it," Old Deng instructed Han Yue step by step.
Han Yue practiced several times and finally learned how to wear a helmet. She said embarrassedly, "Am I stupid? I can't even wear a safety helmet properly?"
"You're not stupid, you've just never worn one before. I taught you, and you learned in just a few minutes," Old Deng comforted Han Yue.
"Right, I'm up." Han Yue gestured with her legs, first trying to step over from the front but failing, then trying from the back, and finally managed to get up. Luckily, she was wearing pants today.
"Xiao Han, hold onto my back," Old Deng said, seeing Han Yue pressed against the trunk. "You'll easily fall if you keep this up when the car starts moving."
Han Yue cautiously stretched out her hand, then pulled it back. She clenched her fist, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
The image of a young couple riding a bicycle on TV flashed through her mind. The action of putting your arm around someone's waist is something that people in a close relationship would do. She and Lao Deng didn't seem to be at that level.
Even without looking back, Lao Deng seemed to sense Han Yue's dilemma. He reached behind him and grabbed Han Yue's hand, saying, "Just think of me as your seatbelt. It's really dangerous if you don't hold on. I'm not trying to take advantage of you."
“That’s not what I meant,” Han Yue explained.
"Hold on tight, we're about to go." Old Deng turned the car key.
Sure enough, as soon as the car started, Han Yue leaned back due to inertia, but luckily she grabbed Lao Deng's waist.
But once the car stabilized, Han Yue relaxed completely.
Sitting on the electric scooter and enjoying the breeze feels great.
Han Yue unconsciously opened her arms to enjoy the fragrance of the flowers that greeted her.
"Hold on tight, Xiao Han," Old Deng said, afraid that Han Yue would fall.
Han Yue put one hand back down, while feeling the wind with the other.
She noticed that the once crowded city center seemed to have become more beautiful.
"Old Deng, this is my first time riding an electric bike. I didn't expect it to be so cool. Please ride slowly." Xiao Han forgot what he was supposed to do and just wanted to enjoy the scenery along the road for a while.
Old Deng slowed down: "Sometimes I prefer to ride a bike to be in contact with nature more often, mainly because I don't get dizzy riding a bike."
“Yes, Lao Deng, we’ll ride our bikes out from now on.” Han Yue especially liked this feeling.
The two of them were overjoyed.
They didn't notice the police officer at the corner at all.
Old Deng was chatting loudly with Han Yue.
After the car turned out of the alley, the view opened up: "Xiao Han, we're on the main road."
As soon as he finished speaking, he looked up and saw several traffic police officers standing at the intersection.
He slammed on the brakes, and Han Yue, caught off guard, lurched forward and crashed into Lao Deng's back. She touched her forehead and cried out in pain.
Old Deng was only concerned about whether Han Yue was injured, and never thought about avoiding the traffic police.
Two traffic police officers came over and issued a ticket.
"Are you alright, Xiao Han?" Old Deng asked.
Han Yue rubbed her forehead: "It's nothing, what's wrong?" She still didn't understand the situation.
The traffic police asked her to get out of the car.
Han Yue then realized what was happening: "Huh? You got arrested?"
Old Deng never expected he would actually be arrested.
He touched the back of his head sheepishly and apologized to the traffic police.
A fine of fifty yuan isn't much, but it's a loss of face for Old Deng.
At first, Han Yue said that she couldn't bring people along because if she got caught, she would be fined and might even have her name displayed on a big screen. But Lao Deng confidently said that was impossible, and that with his skills, he would never get caught.
He said he had good eyesight and quick reflexes, so Han Yue could come up to him without worry. But after only a few turns, she was caught.
"It was a mistake," Old Deng said sheepishly.
After passing the intersection, Han Yue whispered, "It's okay, I'll sit down when we get into the alley."
Han Yue's words made Lao Deng feel a little better.
The two of them safely reached their destination via a side path.
"We've arrived," Han Yue said as she got out of the car, looking at the large characters on the office building.
Old Deng parked the car and came over: "Get in."
The office building is four kilometers away from the school. Lao Deng checked online reviews and found that two floors here are used for training. He plans to check this place out before going to the place recommended by Rong Yan's friend.
Old Deng was quite satisfied with the rent and the size of the venue, but his only hesitation was about the location.
He said he would consider it.
In the evening, Rongyan went to the building and picked up her mother-in-law and Lao Deng, then took them to her friend's training center.
Compared to the office building we just looked at, the storefronts across from the school are in a much better location, and the rent isn't much different.
The two main storefronts are almost entirely occupied by training institutions, creating a very welcoming atmosphere.
Although Lao Deng wasn't there to make money, he prioritized making things convenient for others, and this location was clearly more convenient for students.
Rongyan's friend said that the art class next door will be moving out next month, and Lao Deng can rent it.
A 200-square-meter space is just right for a few ping-pong tables.
Old Deng immediately got the landlord's phone number, and the landlord contacted him and arranged to meet the next day.
His efficiency even surpasses that of many young people today.
Old Deng thanked Rong Yan.
"Mom, I'm going to the hospital. You guys take care of the rest." Rong Yan hurried to the next stop.
She packed up some soup to take to Shen Xingzhi when she passed by the restaurant.
In the hospital, Shen Xingzhi listened to a novel; the content was quite melodramatic.
The caregiver stayed by her side, and the two chatted as they listened.
The caregiver couldn't help but say, "These stories sound melodramatic, but they can happen in real life."
Seeing her hesitant expression, Shen Xingzhi guessed that the caregiver was someone with a story.
"Big sister, is something on your mind? You can tell me about it," Shen Xingzhi asked.
The caregiver, hands on her knees, asked, "Do you believe me? I was beaten out of this state by my husband?"
"Huh?" Shen Xingzhi's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
“I’m not a bad person. Back in my hometown, my husband beat me all the time. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I ran away and came to this big city. It’s far away from my hometown, so he definitely won’t be able to find me.” The caregiver rolled up her sleeves, revealing deep and shallow scars all over her arms.
"My God? He did all this." Shen Xingzhi couldn't believe it.
"Yes, so little sister, you know how good your boyfriend is, right? You can tell he has a great personality and takes meticulous care of you. Even when you're sick in bed, he still has that kind of patience, which is so rare. You should cherish him." The caregiver said earnestly.
