Zhou Luo leaned her head against Fu Jingchen's arm.
As soon as they entered the elevator, the man pinned her against a corner.
It felt as if all the oxygen around Zhou Luo had been sucked out. She was so overwhelmed by the kiss that she felt dizzy until the elevator doors opened, Fu Jingchen let go of her, and Zhou Luo took a few deep breaths.
After unlocking the door with his fingerprint, Fu Jingchen took the woman to the bathroom.
——
Lanshan Garden.
In the dead of night, Han Yue couldn't sleep; she felt extremely guilty.
What was supposed to be a pleasant dinner turned into a nightmare because she was the first to mention that Fu Jingchen would be meeting Zhou Luo's parents the next day.
Although Rong Bing appeared nonchalant after hearing this, only saying "I must wish her well," Han Yue could tell how insincere those words were.
She noticed Rong Bing's fierce and sharp gaze, and was genuinely afraid that Rong Bing would cause trouble again.
After dinner, Rong Bing went home. Han Yue was worried and brought up the matter again with Rong Yan. Rong Yan said that it was certain that Rong Bing was unhappy, but she wouldn't cause any trouble. After all, Fu Jingchen was with Zhou Luo, and Zhou Luo had already been beaten by Rong Bing, so they would definitely be more vigilant. Rong Yan told her mother-in-law not to worry.
But Han Yue still felt uneasy, as if something was about to happen.
After Rong Yan finished showering, Fu Jingsheng patted the edge of the bed and said, "Come here."
"I'll go see if Mom is asleep." Rong Yan knew her mother-in-law well; she knew that if something was on her mind, she wouldn't be able to sleep.
Sure enough, she found that the light in Han Yue's bedroom was on.
The door opened a crack, and Rong Yan stood outside, whispering, "Mom, can I come in?"
"Rong Yan, aren't you asleep yet?" Han Yue walked over. "Come in."
Rong Yan leaned against her mother-in-law's dressing table: "Mom, are you still thinking about that? Don't worry, Rong Bing isn't that stupid. If she goes to see Fu Jingchen again, wouldn't that be like handing herself over to him for a beating?"
"I just feel really bad about it. You know, I have such a big mouth. It's one thing to mention Fu Jingchen during dinner, but why did I have to say he was busy? It's because I'm going to see Zhou Luo's parents tomorrow." Han Yue said, her face full of self-reproach.
“Mom, you didn’t do it on purpose. You’ve already said it, so why put so much pressure on yourself? Besides, Fu Jingchen will marry Zhou Luo sooner or later. Rong Bing knows that even if you don’t say it. True letting go isn’t about running away from that person, but about having a calm mind when facing them. Even if we don’t say it, others will.” Rong Yan advised her mother-in-law.
"That's right, but shouldn't I remind Bingbing not to do anything?" Han Yue was so preoccupied with blaming herself that night that she forgot to mention it.
“I took her downstairs and told her that she wouldn’t go to Fu Jingchen. She knows she won’t get anything good out of it. With Fu Jingchen’s personality, even if he doesn’t do anything himself, he’ll keep Rong Bing occupied and let Zhou Luo fight back.” Rong Yan had already analyzed it with her sister.
"That's good. Bingbing will understand, right? Sigh, what a tragedy." Han Yue sighed.
"Alright, Mom, don't get upset. Let them handle their own affairs. We didn't say anything." Rong Yan put her arm around her mother-in-law's shoulder.
"Okay, Rongyan, you're the most worry-free. It's getting late, go to sleep. Coming to comfort me in the middle of the night, I'm such a troublemaker."
"Mom, don't talk about yourself like that. You're our family's treasure, and I'm happy to talk to you. Okay, go and rest now. Goodnight." Rong Yan helped her mother-in-law to bed.
After she returned to her room, Fu Jingsheng was sitting on the sofa waiting for her.
"Is Mom alright?" Fu Jingsheng asked with concern.
"It's nothing, I just feel guilty, I keep thinking I said the wrong thing," Rong Yan said succinctly.
"Alright, let's go to sleep first, we'll talk about it tomorrow." Fu Jingsheng carried Rong Yan to his side.
Rong Bing's home.
The woman sat on the balcony, looking out the dark window.
Meeting the parents. Rong Bing understood what this meant; Zhou Luo's home was hundreds of kilometers away from Tiancheng.
Fu Jingchen will go home with Zhou Luo after dawn, and perhaps they will soon walk down the aisle.
Rong Bing knew she should let go; what was there to miss about a man like that? But her heart ached as if it were being pricked by needles.
She devoted her entire youth to Fu Jingchen, because Fu Jingchen himself endured so much abuse.
My mother and grandmother have also passed away.
Rong Bing's eyes were wide open, tears streaming down her face. What could she do? There was nothing she could do.
Rong Yan is right. What good would it do her to go to Fu Jingchen again, except to be humiliated?
Everything has settled down.
She had no choice but to accept it.
Rong Bing sent Chen Xiu a message: "Xiuxiu, I'm so sad."
She deleted it immediately before posting it. Fu Jingchen's situation had already caused everyone a lot of trouble, and she couldn't let it affect other people's emotions any further.
She leaned on the railing and sat there until dawn.
Unlike Rong Bing's frustration.
Zhou Luo got up excitedly before the alarm clock rang in the morning.
She was going to take Fu Jingchen back with her.
The woman had just turned over when Fu Jingchen opened his eyes.
"Did I wake you up?" Zhou Luo said apologetically, seeing that it was still early.
Fu Jingchen kissed the woman's hand: "No, it's time to get up."
The man sat up abruptly.
He dressed up carefully.
Zhou Luo's parents knew their daughter would be home in the afternoon, so they went to the market at the crack of dawn and bought a lot of vegetables.
Having seen photos of their future son-in-law beforehand and knowing that he owned a company, the two arranged to have dinner together with relatives from the same village that evening.
A woman who has found such a great partner should definitely show off.
After Fu Jingchen and his group boarded the high-speed train, the man began to get nervous.
He held Zhou Luo's hand tightly.
"Jing Chen, you're pinching my fingers too hard." Zhou Luo tried to pull her fingers away.
"Luo Luo, what should I do? I'm so nervous. I've never been this nervous even when I'm on a business trip meeting clients." Fu Jingchen noticed that sweat was seeping from his temples.
“I’d heard before that men are always afraid when they meet their future in-laws, but I didn’t understand why back then. Now it’s real. Don’t be nervous, my parents are easy to talk to and very nice people.” Zhou Luo patted Fu Jingchen’s hand.
"How about I tell you about them?" Zhou Luo wanted Fu Jingchen to learn more about his parents so he would know what to say to make them happy.
“Okay.” Fu Jingchen listened attentively.
Zhou Luo said that her mother used to be a primary school teacher. Later, when the requirements for teachers became higher, people like her who did not have certificates were eliminated. However, her parents had been rural teachers for decades and were humble and kind.
Upon hearing that his future mother-in-law had been a teacher, Fu Jingchen became even more nervous.
He wiped his sweat: "Damn it, I was terrified of teachers when I was a kid. Don't let my well-behaved appearance fool you, I was a real troublemaker back then. I always got scolded, and the teachers were too afraid to hit me, so they would call my parents. Every time my dad found out, he would give me a good beating when I got home."
"My relationship with my teacher was probably like that of a cat and a mouse. The more the teacher complained, the more mischievous I became out of a desire for revenge. I liked to cause trouble in class, always thinking that I could annoy the teacher." Fu Jingchen thought to himself how childish it was. Not studying properly only hurt himself.
"You actually had a moment like that? I've never heard you mention it before," Zhou Luo exclaimed.
"It's nothing to be proud of. Why did I say it? I just wanted to leave you with a good impression. I'm probably the kind of student that gives teachers a headache."
