Rong Yan arrived at the institution half an hour later.
She stood at the doorway and glanced around.
I didn't expect Lao Deng to be so efficient. The classroom, which was empty just two days ago, is completely different today.
The ping-pong table is in place, the booth is set up, and the paintings on the wall are done.
"Mom, Uncle," she called out.
The two people chatting inside turned around immediately upon hearing the noise.
"Rong Yan." Han Yue went over to greet her daughter-in-law.
She had to explain the area she had set up.
"Mom, this area is so tasteful, you must have decorated it, right?" Before her mother-in-law could even speak, Rong Yan had already started showering her with compliments.
"Yes, that's right." Han Yue said without any modesty.
"But this place is really well done." Rong Yan carefully examined each medal. "Uncle Deng, you're amazing."
"Really amazing." Rong Yan praised sincerely.
"Let me show you around; there are offices in the back." Han Yue took her daughter-in-law's hand.
"An office?" Rong Yan looked around. The entire classroom was laid out before her. She had been here before and it seemed there were no individual rooms.
Han Yue pulled the folding screen out from the wall and quickly circled a small area: "This will be where I keep accounts for Lao Deng from now on. I'll help him, but I won't get paid. Remember that."
Han Yue emphasized.
"Wow, this is quite a hidden gem!" Rong Yan gave a thumbs up. "Mom, should I have Xiao Tong train you? Otherwise, how would you know how to keep accounts? You can't help but make things worse."
"Why are you undermining me? It's not like I can't read. I can't even remember a few numbers, like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division." Han Yue said in a low voice, "If there's anything I really don't understand, I'll ask you. I've already assured Lao Deng that I'll take care of it, so don't break your promise."
"I understand, I understand." Rong Yan couldn't help but chuckle.
Soon after, there were more messages in the group.
Fu Jingsheng finally replied.
Just finished work and getting ready to leave. Want to come along? @wife @mom
[Together, training institution] Rong Yan replied.
"Son, come here quickly, let's have dinner together tonight, it's on you." Han Yue followed, "And bring your Uncle Deng too."
Fu Jingsheng...
Why would someone travel all that way to treat you to a meal?
But his mother brought it up herself, saying it was just a meal and they shouldn't be stingy. He replied, "Okay, what do you want to eat? Just tell me the name of the restaurant. I'll come meet you there."
[My son is so generous!] Han Yue added a thumbs-up emoji.
"Old Deng, Fu Jingsheng is treating us. What would you like to eat?" she asked Old Deng.
"Ask Rong Yan, I'm not picky," Old Deng said, embarrassed to make a request.
"I'm fine with anything, Mom, you decide." In the end, the decision of which restaurant to choose was handed over to Han Yue again.
"Or we can go to Xue's downstairs and have Jing Sheng's organization gather there. I'll talk to him. We need to make sure he gets a glimpse of our hard work." Han Yue's unspoken meaning was that she wanted her son to praise her too.
“Sure,” Rong Yan nodded.
Fu Jingsheng received the organization's positioning.
The restaurant wasn't busy on a weekday, and when Han Yue called, the waiter said there would be a table anytime she came.
While waiting for Fu Jingsheng, the group discussed whether they needed to add anything.
Han Yue brought up the idea of bringing a rice cooker again, but Rong Yan immediately rejected it: "That won't do. Playing ping-pong involves walking around a lot. What if the rice cooker is on and burns the child? There are so many restaurants downstairs. When we're busy, we can just have them deliver it. It's not like we're missing the time to make a phone call."
"Rongyan is so thoughtful." Han Yue was convinced by her daughter-in-law.
"Do we count as elderly people starting businesses?" Old Deng couldn't help but laugh at himself.
"Ahem, Uncle, how should I put it? An elderly person? Who is that? Are there any elderly people here? If I didn't have to call Ms. Han 'Mom' to avoid messing up the generations, I would definitely call you 'Big Brother'." Rong Yan knew how to coax people.
Upon hearing this, Han Yue laughed: "That's right, I'm young too."
“Mom, even if you weren’t my mother-in-law, I would still call you sister.” Rong Yan leaned on her mother-in-law’s shoulder. “When you two go out, no one will dare to say you’re over forty.”
Old Deng was so embarrassed by the praise that he nodded slightly and said, "Han Yue, your wife has high emotional intelligence. No wonder so many people like her."
“I’m telling the truth,” Rong Yan added firmly.
"Old Deng, don't call us old people again next time," Han Yue glanced at Old Deng.
"Okay, you're both young, you two chat while I take the trash downstairs."
After Lao Deng left.
Rong Yan pulled her mother-in-law inside for a private conversation; "Mom, tell me the truth, is this helping out or going to work?"
"Let me explain what 'helping out' means. Helping out means coming occasionally, or helping out when Uncle Deng needs it. For work, you have to come every day and have fixed working hours."
“I have to come here every day. Besides finance, I also handle student registration and class registration, but I don’t want a salary,” Han Yue said.
“Salary isn’t important. It’s different when it comes to work, understand? For example, helping out doesn’t require doing every little thing, but if you’re working, you have to act like you’re working. Mom, you’ve never worked before, and I’m worried you won’t do a good job and you and Uncle Deng will have a conflict. Look at me, Fu Jingsheng and I don’t want to work in the same company. Running a family business isn’t easy,” Rong Yan reminded her.
"What husband-and-wife shop? It's not even close to being established yet. It's just that she wants to experience it because she's never worked before. Old Deng said it's easy to write it down in a notebook." Han Yue didn't know what Rong Yan had to worry about.
She was embarrassed to say that she wasn't afraid of not doing her job well and being scolded by Lao Deng, but rather that she was embarrassed and afraid that her son would say that she was so old and yet she went to work for an old man, and that she wasn't living a life of eating and waiting to die?
"Even the simplest things, if you do them every day, can you keep doing them consistently? Besides, I feel that although the things are simple, there are quite a few, and they sound rather trivial."
"Give it a try. If it doesn't work, we can ask Lao Deng to hire someone. Don't worry, Rong Yan, I definitely won't argue with him about this. Lao Deng hasn't said a single harsh word to me to this day." Han Yue believed that Lao Deng wouldn't get angry with her.
"Alright then, but if, I mean if you're unhappy with what you're doing, you should bring it up anytime." Rong Yan was afraid that her mother-in-law would have to compromise.
"Okay, do you think I'm the kind of person who would compromise? By the way, don't tell Jing Sheng that I come every day. Just say I'm here to help out."
"Okay," Rong Yan replied.
At seven o'clock, after parking his car, Fu Jingsheng went to the organization to take a look.
Han Yue showcased her work once again. Fu Jingsheng was much calmer than Rong Yan. He didn't even say a word of praise, only saying, "Not bad."
"Not bad?" Han Yue rolled her eyes at her son. "We all think this is the most unique area in the institution. Rong Yan praised it for a long time. You have a different aesthetic sense than us, don't you?"
After hearing his wife praise it for a long time, Fu Jingsheng changed his tune: "It's really good, very beautiful."
"Fake." Han Yue's eyes were practically rolling back in her head.
