Deng Wei dodged in time, and Old Deng slammed his fist on the bench, wincing in pain.
"Old Deng, don't do it." Han Yue stopped him. "You two talk it out. I'll go wait over there."
"Xiao Wei, I'm saying this again in front of you today: I absolutely will not take anything from your house." Before Deng Wei could say anything more, Han Yue turned and left.
Old Deng and Han Yue had discussed the house.
He meant to give the house to his son later, but Han Yue said that it was all the same whether it was given to him sooner or later. Now that Lao Deng and she had other places to live, it would be better to give the old house to Deng Wei sooner rather than later, so that Deng Wei wouldn't keep thinking about it.
Most importantly, Han Yue didn't want Deng Wei to keep picking on her over this; it was too annoying.
"Okay, I'll sign. Aunt Han has already persuaded me to transfer the house to your name as soon as possible." Old Deng compromised.
With his father's most precious possession already given to him, Deng Wei's worries completely dissipated.
He happily walked over to Han Yue and invited her to have dinner together that evening.
Han Yue agreed out of consideration for Lao Deng.
Deng Wei casually suggested, "How about I give Fu Jingsheng and the others a call? I'll treat them to a meal together."
"Sure, we'll have to deal with them eventually." Old Deng naturally supported his son's idea to invite Fu Jingsheng and his group.
Instead of making the decision for her son, Han Yue said, "Why don't you ask them if they have time?"
Deng Wei arranged to meet Fu Jingsheng.
Fu Jingsheng also invited Fu Jingchen. In a sense, the three of them are related.
The two agreed not to bring their wives.
Fu Jingsheng, a businessman, exudes an aura of authority when he walks.
Deng Wei felt a sense of pressure, but he couldn't lose in terms of momentum. To hide his nervousness, he pretended to be playing on his phone until Fu Jingsheng spoke first. Only then did he raise his head and look directly at Fu Jingsheng to greet him.
Fu Jingchen arrived as well.
The two brothers entertained Deng Wei together, which was a great honor for him. This made Old Deng even more impressed with how good other people's sons were.
During the meal, Deng Wei kept trying to get information out of Fu Jingsheng, who had been in the business world for many years. Fu Jingsheng not only answered flawlessly, but also put Deng Wei in a difficult position at every turn.
Fu Jingchen also joined forces with his brother, saying that their company was a small business and only made the profit of one house a year. Fu Jingchen said that in order to thank his adoptive mother for raising him, he planned to buy her a house at the end of the year.
These words were a slap in the face to Deng Wei: one asked the old man for something, while the other gave him something.
He smiled wryly: "It seems I should go back to China to develop my career; there are more opportunities there."
When Han Yue heard her two sons arguing about buying her a car and a house, she couldn't help but smile. She said that she didn't need that many houses, and then she thought that these two were really something, wasn't this just adding to her burden? The houses would have to be cleaned.
Deng Wei felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.
He didn't know how he managed to stay awake until the end of the meal.
That night, Deng Wei checked into a hotel and sent a photo of the agreement he had received to his wife.
Zhou Man zoomed in for a closer look and was surprised that her father-in-law had agreed so readily. She immediately called Deng Wei to ask him how things had gone so smoothly.
Deng Wei then recounted the details of the meal.
“Sure, let them be high and mighty. This shabby house is worth at least three million in Tiancheng. It’s good that they don’t care. You should come back as soon as possible. Once you get the house, the rest of the money is a small amount. If you can’t get it, then forget it.” Zhou Man was only concerned about not losing money herself.
“Manman, I don’t think they’re taking Dad’s money. It’s not an act. Even a starved camel is bigger than a horse. Fu Jingsheng doesn’t seem to be bragging. Although the new company hasn’t been established for long, it’s already starting to make money. Fu Jingchen has been stable all along. If we get along well with them, maybe one day they can help me get rich.” Deng Wei thought it over carefully. He was just an ordinary working-class person. Getting on Fu Jingsheng’s good side would only have benefits and no harm.
Besides, the Fu family already has Rong Yan as a cash cow, so there's really no need for them to be eyeing their father's little bit of money.
Zhou Man is proud and aloof. Even if she is not rich, she will not go against her own principles and fawn over the rich.
"You go if you want, I'm not going. So what if you have money? Does having money make you superior?" Zhou Man said with a look of disdain.
"That's not what I meant. In case we go back to China to develop our careers, it's always better to have connections in Tiancheng. Didn't you say that you might not want to stay abroad after you turn forty?" Deng Wei counted that he was only a few years away from forty.
"I'll do it, I don't care." Deng Wei didn't think face was worth much money.
"Whatever you say." Zhou Man couldn't control her husband's thoughts.
Deng Wei smiled and said, "Wife, I know what I'm doing."
When Fu Jingsheng returned home, he reeked of alcohol.
Rong Yan was initially quite worried, fearing that he and Deng Wei would have a falling out, but after seeing her husband's expression, she felt relieved.
"It looks like there wasn't a conflict," she said, hanging her husband's coat on the hanger.
"What conflict?" Fu Jingsheng asked, puzzled.
"I'm afraid you won't like what Deng Wei says, so I'll beat him up." Rong Yan wanted to call him all night, but she felt it wouldn't be good to disturb their conversation.
"How could that be? But Deng Wei really deserved a beating today. I won't argue with him. If someone of my status were to fight with him, it would only make me look like I have no manners." Fu Jingsheng elevated himself.
“Yes, you’re the most generous.” Rong Yan said, leaning on Fu Jingsheng’s shoulder. “Honey, Xingzhi has gone back. It’ll just be the two of us tonight. I’m telling you beforehand, get some rest. It hurts so much down there today.”
Rong Yan hadn't recovered all day; she felt pain whenever she went to the bathroom.
"I'm too exhausted to work today either." Fu Jingsheng hiccuped. "I rested at home for half a day, and even after walking around the workshop all afternoon, my legs still feel weak."
"That's good." Rong Yan took her husband's arm. "Why don't you take a shower and get some rest? I've already showered. It's still early today, I'll write on my phone for a while."
Fu Jingsheng sat in the bathtub, feeling drowsy.
Rong Yan only noticed that her husband hadn't come out yet after she finished writing the first chapter.
She went to check and found that Fu Jingsheng had actually fallen asleep.
"Jing Sheng." Rong Yan called out while shaking Fu Jing Sheng's shoulders.
The man was startled awake and kicked his foot: "What's wrong?"
"You fell asleep in the bathtub, and the water's all cold. Quickly take a hot shower and go to bed." Rong Yan said, turning off the cold water in the bathtub while turning on the hot shower for her husband.
Fu Jingsheng rubbed his eyes: "Oh, she's asleep. No need to rinse."
He wrapped himself in a bath towel and went back to his room.
That night, the two of them slept very soundly.
So much so that when the mother-in-law came to bring breakfast the next morning, they didn't hear the doorbell.
The alarm clock rang and rang before Rong Yan finally sat up.
Fu Jingsheng stretched and woke up feeling refreshed after going to bed early.
"Looks like I can't stay up late," the man said. "No matter how much I try to make up for it during the day, I'll still feel exhausted. I went to bed early yesterday, so I feel great right now. By the way, honey, did you say anything hurt yesterday?"
"No, no." Rong Yan was no longer in pain, and she didn't want to discuss that topic again so early in the morning.
"Okay, get up." Fu Jingsheng got out of bed.
