After lunch, Lu Ying stayed behind to watch the shop, while Xia Donglai prepared a carriage and set off with Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei.
The Hu family workshop is neither too far nor too far from here. It's not far, but it took an hour to get there by carriage.
"I can only take you this far!" Hu Mingmei said. "They might recognize me, so you'll have to go in by yourself. Be careful and try not to let them notice anything amiss."
"You can come in with me!" Bai Nuo said with a faint smile, taking out some rouge and powder and gently applying it to Hu Mingmei's face. Hu Mingmei then disappeared and became someone else.
When the two got off the carriage, Xia Donglai was stunned. He wanted to come over, but then he thought that he hadn't felt anyone approach their carriage. They were in a small village. Hu Mingmei told Bai Nuo that although it looked like a village, it was actually the family of the workshop workers. The workshop workers worked here, got married and had children here, and over time it became a village.
Xia Donglai led Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei inside. As soon as strangers arrived, everyone looked at Bai Nuo and the others coldly.
Everyone was hostile to strangers, but Bai Nuo wasn't intimidated. She said loudly, "Hello, we're from the next town. We've heard your craftsmanship is excellent, so we'd like to discuss a collaboration to ship a batch of goods. Please let us meet the person in charge of your business." If cold light could kill, there wouldn't be anyone left in the world. That kind of gaze could only frighten the timid. Unfortunately, Bai Nuo was a bold person.
This was something Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei had agreed upon long ago. The goods were genuine, but only in small quantities, and they were just for setting the pearls; they would handle the setting themselves.
