Bai Nuo didn't know what had happened to Duobaoge. As soon as she arrived in town, she ran straight to Duobaoge. When she got there, her heart tightened.
What happened? Why is her shop open? Was she robbed?
Bai Nuo didn't bother to park the carriage in the backyard. After finally parking the carriage, he jumped down and ran into the shop. As soon as he entered, he saw Hu Mingmei behind the counter.
There were two female customers inside. Hu Mingmei was obviously selling things. When she saw her come in, she only glanced at her briefly before lowering her head to introduce the products to her customers.
The two female customers were clearly unable to resist Hu Mingmei's charm. Even though Hu Mingmei didn't say much, the two female customers blushed. Not long after Bai Nuo came in, the two female customers paid and left with their faces still flushed.
With no one around, Bai Nuo walked over and asked, "What are you doing here?"
She hasn't come for so many days. Has Hu Mingmei been watching the shop for her?
"Where have you been?" Hu Mingmei asked her across the counter. "Why haven't you come over for so many days? What happened? I asked Lu Ying to go to your house to look for you, but Lu Ying said you weren't home!"
"Did Lu Ying go to the house?" Bai Nuo looked at him in confusion. Seeing Hu Mingmei's anxious face, she couldn't help but whisper, "I didn't mean to. Lu Ying must have been stopped by Grandma when she got home. I... I got my period..." The last few words were spoken softer and softer. She didn't know if Hu Mingmei could hear them, but Bai Nuo herself almost couldn't hear them.
Hu Mingmei came out from behind the counter, pulled her to sit down behind it, stared at her intently for a long while, and then asked, "Now? Is it ready?"
"Alright..." Bai Nuo nodded and said softly.
Bai Nuo had never talked about such private things as her period in front of a boy before. Today was the first time, so Bai Nuo was still very shy. Her whole face was burning, and she didn't dare to look up at Hu Mingmei.
Hu Mingmei looked at her and saw that her face was flushed with shyness, her complexion as beautiful as a peach blossom, and she was even more radiant and charming than usual. Her long eyelashes trembled and fluttered, making her look like a little white rabbit that was lovable.
Hu Mingmei couldn't help but hug Bai Nuo, affectionately kissed Bai Nuo's temple, and whispered, "Did it hurt when you came?"
"Mmm..." Bai Nuo's voice trembled slightly as she leaned against Hu Mingmei's chest and nodded, saying with a wronged expression, "My stomach hurts so much!"
"Now that she's having her period, she's considered an adult. That's wonderful! My Nuonuo is finally not a child anymore!" Hu Mingmei exclaimed, her tone as if Bai Nuo had made him wait a long time.
Just as Bai Nuo was about to raise her head to refute, she saw Hu Mingmei pull off the jade pendant from her body. When she pulled it open, it turned into a jade pendant necklace. Then, to Bai Nuo's astonishment, Hu Mingmei hung the jade pendant around Bai Nuo's neck.
"Isn't this your mother's? Why are you giving it to me?" Bai Nuo instinctively tried to tear the jade pendant off.
Hu Mingmei looked up and stopped Bai Nuo's movement. Looking at the jade pendant hanging on her frost-white neck, she smiled and said, "In our family, every woman receives a gift at this time. You are mine, so you should receive one too!"
"But this is what your mother gave you!" How can a keepsake left by one's mother be compared to an ordinary gift? Back when she first met Hu Mingmei, she took this jade pendant away. Hu Mingmei chased after the jade pendant and almost lost his life.
"This gift is too valuable; I cannot accept it."
Hu Mingmei smiled at her, "It's true that my mother gave it to me, but there's no difference between giving it to my son and my daughter-in-law. Besides, didn't I tell you that this was something my mother left for her daughter-in-law?"
Bai Nuo shook her head blankly; she had long forgotten.
Hu Mingmei stroked the jade pendant with his fingers. The pendant was cool to the touch and still carried a trace of Bai Nuo's body heat. "Keep it. You're mine, so what's mine is yours!"
Hu Mingmei repeatedly urged Bai Nuo to leave the jade pendant behind, so Bai Nuo obediently and peacefully accepted it, tucking it into her clothes and keeping it close to her chest.
"Oh, right, I also have something for you!" Bai Nuo said mysteriously, ran out, took a bundle from the carriage, and handed it to Hu Mingmei. "Open it and take a look?"
"What is this?" Hu Mingmei opened it with a puzzled look, and became even more puzzled after seeing what it contained.
"Go try it on!" Bai Nuo took out the contents of her bundle—an undergarment she had made for Hu Mingmei, which had taken her a whole night and two days.
"I made this for you. Go upstairs and try it out. See if it suits you. If not, I'll revise it," Bai Nuo said.
"Try it again when you get home!" Bai Nuo thought Hu Mingmei would be very touched, but Hu Mingmei just put the clothes aside and then pulled Bai Nuo to the cabinet. "The first batch of goods made by Hu Quan has come out. Since you weren't here, I accepted it for you. You can decide what to do with it. I'll have Lu Ying bring the pearls over for you. Since you're here, I'll go back first."
"Huh?" Hu Mingmei changed too quickly, and Bai Nuo couldn't accept it for a moment.
I was just about to say something when Hu Mingmei grabbed the clothes and quickly walked out.
What?! You were calling me your little darling and sweetheart just now, and now you're being so cold!
As soon as Hu Mingmei left, Bai Nuo started to sulk. She sat sullenly behind the counter and waited for a while. There was no one in the multi-treasure pavilion. Bai Nuo couldn't help but stand up and walk to the door to look. Where was Hu Mingmei?
