Why should she help someone if she doesn't want to be their concubine?
What kind of logic is this?
Bai Nuo frowned and said, "You should go back and explain things to your parents!" She wasn't a righteous official, nor was she a relative of this girl. It wouldn't do any good for the girl to come to her; it would only bring trouble to both of them!
“My father…” The girl’s face was bitter. She bit her lip and lowered her head deeply. “It’s no use talking to my father. He’s determined to sell me!”
If she had known better, she wouldn't have bought that bracelet. If she hadn't bought it, would her father have sold her?
"Then I'll take you in..." Bai Nuo said calmly, "If I take you in, your father will come and smash my shop!" Fortunately, Hu Mingmei and Xia Donglai were there today. If she had been alone in the shop, Duobaoge might have been reduced to ruins and would have been lost.
The girl suddenly knelt down. The moment she knelt, Bai Nuo felt a pang of pity, and his eyelids twitched. However, remembering that he couldn't be a good person all the time, he slightly moved his head away from looking directly at the girl.
"My father wouldn't dare to provoke you!" the girl said softly, tears welling up and dripping to the ground. After taking a deep breath, she wiped away her tears before saying, "My father is quite afraid of you. I know that my father and mother went to Duobao Pavilion to find you. After they came back, my father couldn't move for a long time!" Of course, the first thing her father did after waking up was to sell her. He was cursing Bai Nuo at home at the time, his face filled with terror.
Her father sold her because he couldn't get money from Bai Nuo.
But she didn't say it.
"What's wrong?" At this moment, Hu Mingmei also arrived at the entrance of the town. He glanced at the person kneeling on the ground with a sign hanging in front of him. "Why aren't you leaving?"
The carriage stopped, and Jiang Qiao'er, who was sitting inside, opened the curtain, nodded to her, and gave her a slight smile.
Bai Nuo was stunned for a moment. Was this the first time Jiang Qiao'er had smiled since Jiang San Niang's accident? Bai Nuo came back to his senses and nodded to Jiang Qiao'er.
Jiang Qiao'er considered this her way of giving her greetings, and then she lowered the carriage curtain.
"She wants me to buy her!" Bai Nuo whispered to Hu Mingmei. "You go first, don't wait for me. Take Qiao'er and the others back first!"
Hu Mingmei nodded and told Long Yi to drive away.
When the girl saw Hu Mingmei arrive, her eyes lit up with anticipation. She thought that even if Bai Nuo was unwilling to buy her, Hu Mingmei would be willing, since Bai Nuo was very beautiful, but she wasn't bad either. However, she didn't expect that Hu Mingmei would leave without even glancing at her.
"You want him to buy you?"
Bai Nuo asked casually what the girl's eyes looked like. Bai Nuo had naturally seen it and looked at her with some amusement.
Hu Mingmei doesn't even like Zhang Jingwen, so how could he possibly like a girl like her? Bai Nuo even suspects that if she hadn't had so many interactions with Hu Mingmei, Hu Mingmei might not have even looked at her.
Hu Mingmei is a person who truly has no demands, but if you were to say he does have demands, they would be extremely high.
Normally, when someone exposes your true feelings, a normal person would try to cover it up and say something like, "No." But this girl wasn't like that. She nodded directly and said, "As long as he's willing to take me and can save me from this predicament, I'm naturally willing!"
She'd do anything as long as she wasn't sold!
"Never mind!" Bai Nuo got off the carriage, took off the name tag from the girl's chest, and gave her three taels of silver amidst her surprised gaze. "Go back now, you have the money, go back and give it to your father!"
With Hu Mingmei gone far away, Bai Nuo naturally had no intention of lingering there any longer.
“You bought me, so of course I’ll follow you!” The girl stood up and looked at Bai Nuo expectantly. Bai Nuo ignored her and boarded the carriage on his own.
The girl wanted to follow, but Bai Nuo looked at her with a half-smile, and the girl stopped.
"What's your name?" Bai Nuo asked.
"My name is Qinghe," the girl said softly.
Bai Nuo nodded to indicate that he understood, and then drove off without lingering.
When the people gathered there saw Bai Nuo's horse approaching them, they naturally didn't dare to block it, so they made way for Bai Nuo to leave smoothly.
Thinking that Hu Mingmei might be waiting for her, Bai Nuo spurred her horse on after a short while. After a while, she saw Hu Mingmei's carriage in the distance and quickly followed. Once she caught up, she walked slowly behind.
***
The next morning, before Bai Nuo went to work, Jiang San Niang got up and insisted on going to the shop with them. Bai Nuo used the excuse that she hadn't fully recovered yet, but Jiang San Niang said indifferently, "Even if it's not a month yet, it's been several days. It's just a miscarriage, not a real postpartum period. Besides, I'm not going to do farm work. Qiao'er is in the shop, I can just sit and collect the money. I can come back to your place to sleep tonight, it's the same."
Bai Nuo naturally refused her. She looked at Jiang San Niang's face, which was not exactly snow-white, but still somewhat pale. Seeing that Jiang San Niang remained unmoved after she had spoken for a long time, Bai Nuo said, "Your sister is right behind you. Go and talk to her. If she's willing, I'm willing too!"
When Jiang San Niang turned around after hearing Bai Nuo's words, she saw Jiang Qiao'er and Lu Ying standing behind her, staring straight at her.
