Chapter 139: He now has his own workshop

Qinghe said in a low voice, "If I go home and give the money to my father, he will still sell me, so I ran away. If you don't take me in, I really have nowhere to go. I can do anything, just give me some food!"

Qinghe's words indirectly confirmed why she looked so disheveled—she had sneaked out last night and gone straight to sleep in front of the Treasure Pavilion, which was why she looked so dirty.

After Qinghe finished explaining everything, he raised his head again, looked at her pleadingly, and grabbed her sleeve, refusing to let go. His pitiful appearance made Bai Nuo's heart clench.

This girl looks a lot like the original owner of this body.

Although Bai Nuo hadn't experienced it firsthand, she still had the memories, and every time she thought about it, she felt a chill run down her spine.

That's absolutely terrifying.

Bai Nuo took a deep breath and said calmly, "It's very late now. Find an inn to sleep, and come find me tomorrow morning!"

So, Bai Nuo agreed to take Qinghe in. Qinghe was so happy that tears started falling again. She sighed and quickly wiped away her tears.

Bai Nuo freed her clothes from Qing He's grasp. "I'm leaving now. Remember, find an inn to sleep in, take a good bath, and don't sleep in front of my door again. Tell me how much it cost tomorrow, and I'll pay you back!"

"Mmm..." Qinghe nodded with tears in her eyes, her heart pounding with excitement. It was wonderful; she no longer had to wander.

Under the protection of Bai Nuo and others, she no longer needed to fear her father.

After Bai Nuo and Qing He had made things clear, Bai Nuo hurriedly went home.

The next morning, when they arrived at the shop, they indeed saw Qinghe waiting there. Bai Nuo got off the carriage, and Long Yi drove off. When Qinghe saw Bai Nuo arrive, he quickly came forward to greet her, "Miss..."

She waited for quite a while but Bai Nuo didn't come, and she thought that Bai Nuo wasn't coming at all.

"Have you been waiting long?" Bai Nuo walked over and asked as she opened the door, "Have you had breakfast?"

Qinghe answered Bai Nuo's questions one by one, "I've been here for a while, but I haven't had breakfast yet." Although she had three taels of silver given to her by Bai Nuo, she had spent several dozen copper coins when she stayed at the inn last night. She didn't have a job, and the more money she spent, the less she had. How could she bear to eat breakfast?

So, she checked out of the room early this morning and came here to wait for Bai Nuo. Her stomach is still growling with hunger.

Bai Nuo casually handed her a paper package, saying, "Here, have some. I brought it from home!" With that, she pushed open the door and went inside.

The room, which had been closed all night, felt stuffy when it was suddenly opened. Bai Nuo went inside, walked to the window, and opened all the windows to let in fresh air.

As soon as the window was opened, a gentle breeze and a ray of morning sunlight streamed in, falling obliquely on the corner of the wall by the door. In that ray of sunlight, you could even see tiny specks of dust.

Qinghe walked in with the paper package, following Bai Nuo, and asked softly, "Have you eaten?"

Bai Nuo nodded, "I've already eaten, I ate at home!" Ever since the number of people in the family suddenly increased, Aunt Liu has been making more and more breakfasts. Bai Nuo thought that there was still one person who hadn't eaten breakfast yet, so she took out a portion.

"You eat first! I have something to ask you later!" Bai Nuo glanced back at Qinghe and said calmly. Then she went outside, fetched some water, wiped the table and counter, and then started boiling water on the stove.

Qinghe felt bad about letting Bai Nuo do the work alone, so she slowly ate her breakfast, finishing it in a few bites. Then she quickly ran to Bai Nuo's side, took the fire tongs from Bai Nuo's hands, and said, "Let me do it!"

Bai Nuo gently stepped aside, not letting Qinghe get the fire tongs, but instead glancing at the stool next to her and inviting Qinghe to sit down.

It wasn't until Qinghe sat down that Bai Nuo asked, "Can you write?" Bai Nuo had looked at Qinghe's clothes that day; although they were simple, they weren't particularly difficult to write. She just didn't know if Qinghe had ever been to school or anything like that.

She didn't quite understand why anyone would sell their own daughter for a few taels of silver.

Qinghe nodded and said softly, "I know a little... My mother can read and taught me..."

Bai Nuo didn't intend to ask about Qinghe's family background. Qinghe said she could read, so Bai Nuo nodded. "It's good that you can read. You can stay by my side from now on! You can do whatever I do. Just clean the table and floor in the morning."

Qinghe nodded quickly.

Bai Nuo added, "There's a small room here where you can stay. There's also a kitchen and such, so you can cook! The cook in my family earns three taels of silver a month, and I'll give you three taels of silver too! But I won't give you any extra clothes or anything!"

Qinghe nodded quickly. Bai Nuo's offer was already very generous, and she dared not say anything more. However, she remembered the three taels of silver Bai Nuo had given her and quickly said, "You've already given me three taels of silver!"

Bai Nuo nodded. Of course she remembered this, so she wouldn't be so kind as to give Qian Qinghe any more money. "So I will still give you your wages for this month, but you won't get your wages for next month until the month after next!"

Qinghe nodded, agreeing that Bai Nuo's approach was reasonable.

After explaining everything, Bai Nuo fell silent, quietly boiled the water, and instructed Qinghe, "The fire here must not be extinguished; it must always be kept burning." After all, you never know when guests might come, but if guests do come, they will need tea, so there absolutely cannot be a shortage of boiling water.
