Bai Nuo stood at the door and looked inside. All she could see was that the room was pitch black, so dark that she couldn't see her hand in front of her face. Even though the door was open, the light only reached the middle of the room before disappearing completely, making it impossible to see what was inside.
Moreover, the stench of blood was overwhelming inside, and one could only imagine what the situation was like there. Bai Nuo simply couldn't stand the smell of blood.
Bai Nuo nodded immediately.
Hu Mingmei reached out and touched her head, then pulled her to the doorway. Lu Ying went inside and soon came out with three "blood-covered" people—two men and one woman.
After just one glance, Hu Mingmei pulled Bai Nuo into his arms, pressing her head down to prevent her from looking a second time. "Alright, don't look anymore, or you'll have nightmares!"
She wouldn't have nightmares; Bai Nuo had seen many similar situations in her past life, so it wouldn't frighten her.
The faint scent of medicine emanating from Hu Mingmei filled her nostrils. After getting used to it, Bai Nuo no longer found the smell unpleasant; in fact, she found it rather pleasant. She shook her head in Hu Mingmei's arms and whispered, "Don't be afraid!"
Although Bai Nuo said that, Hu Mingmei still did not let go of Bai Nuo until Lu Ying had stuffed Hu Quan and the others into the carriage. Only then did Hu Mingmei release Bai Nuo.
"Are you going back already?" Bai Nuo asked, looking at Lu Ying standing by the carriage.
Hu Mingmei nodded. "Can you ride a horse?"
Bai Nuo honestly shook his head.
Hu Mingmei frowned and said, "But we have to ride back on horseback today!"
"Riding back?" Bai Nuo asked in surprise, only then realizing why Lu Ying had brought out an extra horse even though he had already driven out the carriage—the carriage was for Hu Quan and the others, and he and Hu Mingmei were riding back on horseback.
But I can't ride a horse, and Hu Mingmei isn't in good health either. Can they ride back on horseback?
Hu Mingmei smiled faintly, "Don't be afraid, it's alright. I can ride a horse, I'll take you back!"
Bai Nuo looked at him, a hint of worry in her eyes.
Hu Mingmei didn't miss the fleeting emotion in Bai Nuo's eyes. He took Bai Nuo's hand and walked to the carriage, squeezing her hand. "Don't be afraid, I'll take you out for some fresh air!"
Lu Ying noticed Bai Nuo's fear and immediately smiled, "Don't be afraid, Miss. Second Master is the best rider among us. Donglai and I can't compare to him. Luckily, Donglai isn't here, otherwise we would have to go back and work hard to improve!"
Bai Nuo looked at him with slight shock. Hu Mingmei chuckled softly in Bai Nuo's ear, "I know a lot more. Go up quickly, I'll protect you, don't be afraid!"
Bai Nuo's anxiety subsided somewhat after hearing Hu Mingmei's words. Hu Mingmei whispered in her ear, "Grab its mane with your left hand, brace yourself on the saddle with your right hand, and firmly step on the left stirrup with your left foot. Then just sit down!"
Bai Nuo did as Hu Mingmei said. Just as she touched the brown horse, it moved slightly, and Hu Mingmei called out softly from the side, "Juechen!"
Juechen indeed stopped moving. After calming herself down, Bai Nuo climbed onto Juechen's back. When she first sat down, Bai Nuo felt that Fourth Master was different and was a little scared. Her heart was pounding. But soon, Hu Mingmei also came up and hugged her in his arms, holding her hand to hold the rope. Only then did Bai Nuo's heart calm down.
"Are you seated?" Hu Mingmei asked softly.
Bai Nuo nodded.
Hu Mingmei spurred the horse's belly, and Juechen truly galloped away, the scenery on both sides of the road constantly changing, the stuffy air being broken by the breeze, which ruffled her hair.
When they returned to town, Hu Mingmei dropped Bai Nuo off at the Treasure Pavilion and then told her to come down, saying with a smile, "I'll come and take you home tonight!"
Bai Nuo knew that Hu Mingmei was going to interrogate Hu Quan. Since Hu Mingmei didn't want to talk about it, Bai Nuo didn't press him for details and nodded, saying, "Then I'll wait for you!"
Hu Mingmei nodded, watched Bai Nuo go inside, and then rode Juechen towards Fulai Inn.
Hu Mingmei returned to the Fulai Inn, washed his hands and feet, and then sat down to brew a pot of strong tea before waiting for Lu Ying in the lobby.
Before they had even finished their tea, Lu Ying returned. His carriage stopped in front of the Fulai Inn, where Hu Mingmei could be seen from inside the lobby. Lu Ying looked at him from inside the carriage, and Hu Mingmei nodded expressionlessly. Only then did Lu Ying ride the carriage to the backyard.
Hu Mingmei opened the door to the secret room with a cup of tea, took a stool and sat down. In front of her were rows and rows of torture instruments and wooden stakes.
Not long after they sat down, Lu Ying brought in the three men, carrying a small wooden box. She then tied the three men to a wooden stake and placed the box aside.
Those three men had been following Hu Quan in his tyranny and greedily taking money from the small workshop for a long time. They had long since developed a habit of living a life of luxury. They had already been subjected to severe torture by Lu Ying when they were in the small workshop, and they could no longer endure it.
Although their mouths were covered, they could still see. But when they were in a new environment, they trembled like leaves, making muffled noises, but no sound came out.
However, Lu Ying thought that even if such people were allowed to speak, they would probably just shout for help or something similar.
Of the three, only Hu Quan remained relatively calm, his eyes fixed on them as if he wanted to devour their flesh and drink their blood.
As for one of the women, she had already wet her pants countless times and was covered in the stench of urine. Lu Ying didn't want to get close to her, and every time she had to approach her, she would have to go back and take a shower many times.
