Bai Nuo went into the kitchen alone and started kneading dough.
Hu Mingmei followed her in. "Do you need any help?"
Bai Nuo nodded, "You can mash the red beans into a paste!"
The red beans are cooked and ready to be mashed.
Bai Nuo kneaded the flour into a dough, and after kneading it until it was elastic, she lined a steamer with parchment paper, spread the dough out on it, steamed it until cooked, and then took it out to cool.
After the dough cooled down, Bai Nuo took a small ball of flour, rolled it into a dough sheet, added red bean paste and crushed peanuts that Hu Mingmei had prepared, then wrapped it into the shape of a bun. She then pressed it into a mold, patted it on a winnowing basket, and a pancake lay on the basket.
"Does it look good?" Bai Nuo asked Hu Mingmei, placing the pancake in her palm.
The crust is snow-white and round, with peony patterns on it. The whole cake exudes a delicate fragrance. Hu Mingmei nodded, "It looks good."
"Want to try some?" Bai Nuo brought the pancake to Hu Mingmei's lips.
Hu Mingmei took a bite from Bai Nuo's hand. The sweet taste filled her mouth, and Hu Mingmei couldn't help but ask, "What's the name of this pancake?"
"Mooncake! Look, it's round, which symbolizes family reunion. The filling is sweet, which means wishing people a sweet life." Bai Nuo explained while taking a bite of the mooncake.

Missing home?
Bai Nuo nodded, humming a song by a famous female singer:
When will the bright moon appear?
Raising a cup to ask the blue sky
I don't know the celestial palaces
What year is it tonight?
I wish to ride the wind and return.
Fearing only the towers and jade palaces
The higher you climb, the colder it gets.
Dancing and playing with the clear shadow
How can it be like being in the human world?
The moon shines through the red pavilion and the low, ornate windows, illuminating the sleepless night.
People experience joys and sorrows, separations and reunions.
The moon has its phases of waxing and waning.
This matter is difficult to resolve completely since ancient times.
May we all live long and prosper.
We share the same moon, though we are thousands of miles apart.
Hu Mingmei waited until Bai Nuo finished singing before speaking, "Missing home?"
Bai Nuo was lost in her own thoughts and hadn't been paying attention to what Hu Mingmei was saying. When he spoke, Bai Nuo nodded haphazardly, "Hmm..."
After answering, Bai Nuo realized what Hu Mingmei had asked and looked at Hu Mingmei in horror, "My home is right here, what am I thinking!"
Why would Hu Mingmei ask that?
