Things have developed to this point, and it's clear that something is wrong; it's obvious that someone is plotting against her.
If Bai Nuo still can't understand, then this shop shouldn't be open.
However, Bai Nuo was also curious: who was plotting against her like this? She didn't seem to have any enemies in this town.
"You..." The man became even more agitated after being pushed away by Xia Donglai. "You killed someone and then tried to beat them up. This is simply outrageous!"
As the man finished speaking, his men became even more excited, surging forward and engulfing Lu Ying in the crowd. Even so, Xia Donglai remained firmly in front of them. Bai Nuo glanced at Hu Mingmei worriedly; could Lu Ying handle it alone? She didn't want Lu Ying to get hurt.
Hu Mingmei said in a low voice, "It's alright. Lu Ying's martial arts skills aren't that bad, that he can't even handle this little thing."
Bai Nuo was finally relieved and looked at the man, saying, "You said I killed someone? Fine, then I'll give you justice. If the magistrate says I killed someone, I will definitely take responsibility. But if I didn't kill someone..."
Bai Nuo's words were full of twists and turns, carrying a profound meaning. A hint of unease flashed in the man's eyes as he thought to himself, "Could she know something? Impossible, they've been so discreet, there's no way she could know."
"The magistrate will definitely not let you off!" the man said through gritted teeth.
They had agreed to report the matter to the authorities, but Lu Ying's side was still fighting fiercely. Although there were many of them, in reality, it was Lu Ying who was abusing them. As soon as someone got close, Lu Ying would kick them down.
"What are you doing?" Hu Mingmei and Bai Nuo didn't want to stop the fight. Anyway, it wasn't their people who were being beaten. They just wanted Lu Ying to stretch his limbs. A martial artist can't stay idle all the time.
Just as Lu Ying was unilaterally suppressing them, a loud shout suddenly came from outside the crowd, followed by the voice, "Make way, make way! You think you can get paid to stand guard here? Be careful, or we'll send you all back to jail one by one for free!" The onlookers consciously made way, and Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei saw soldiers in official uniforms approaching.
The leader walked up to them, his imposing gaze sweeping over them as he asked in a deep voice, "What's going on? Why are you fighting? Men, separate them! If anyone else is fighting, execute them on the spot!"
Upon hearing this, those dressed in mourning clothes immediately stopped, distanced themselves from Lu Ying, and glared at him, engaging in a silent battle with him.
"What's going on? What's going on?" The leader immediately became unhappy. What? Does he think he's above everyone else? Didn't we say no fighting? Why do they still want to fight after we've separated? Do they not take him seriously or what?
"You still want to fight with your eyes after we've separated? What? Do you want to fight in jail or something? If so, sign up, and I'll send you all there right now." As he spoke, the constable gave Lu Ying a particularly sharp look. "Especially you, you look like a troublemaker. I'm warning you, you better behave yourself, or I'll deal with you!"
Lu Ying pursed his lips, took a step back, and silently showed that he didn't want to fight.
"A bunch of troublemakers! They're just trying to cause him trouble!" The officer in charge shouted, "Take them all back!"
The soldiers dragged them away, including Bai Nuo and the others. Bai Nuo, as a "suspect," and Hu Mingmei walked in the middle, while the soldiers walked on both sides of them in two teams, holding gleaming long guns, which looked very intimidating.
Everyone who passed by in the town stared at them.
Bai Nuo felt those gazes and sighed softly. This was the first time in her life she had ever made a splash, and she never expected it to be in this way.
Bai Nuo raised her head and looked ahead. Hu Mingmei was walking in front of her, and Bai Nuo could only see his back. Hu Mingmei's hands were also tied. Bai Nuo felt a pang of heartache and thought that he had always lived a life of luxury and had never suffered like this before. Let alone being tied up, he had always been the one bullying others, but now he was suffering this undeserved misfortune with her.
As if sensing Bai Nuo's gaze, Hu Mingmei turned around and glanced at Bai Nuo, giving her a reassuring smile to indicate that she was alright.
Perhaps it was because the two men's smiles were too glaring, or perhaps it was because the officers and soldiers felt that they had no awareness of their status as "suspects," when one of the officers saw Hu Mingmei turn around, he immediately poked the gleaming red-tasseled spear in his hand at Hu Mingmei's feet, shouting, "What are you looking at? Hurry up!"
Bai Nuo had been watching Hu Mingmei the whole time, so she naturally saw the dangerous action and was immediately startled. However, since the soldiers were also watching her, Bai Nuo didn't dare to make a sound and walked with her head down.
Seeing how obedient Bai Nuo was, the soldiers finally withdrew their spears.
The group entered the county magistrate's office. The head constable lined up the group in the middle of the hall and kicked the man in the middle in the knee. "Kneel down! And you all too!"
The man who was kicked by the constable happened to be the one whose wife had died.
After the constable kicked the man, he immediately knelt down. Although Bai Nuo and the others didn't want to kneel either, they were now on someone else's turf and had no choice but to bow their heads, otherwise they would end up like that man.
