Jiang San Niang had already rushed towards Lu Ying.
Hu Mingmei stopped, glanced at her briefly as if to make sure she was alright, and then walked towards her. Bai Nuo's feet wouldn't obey her commands. She clearly wanted to stand and wait for Hu Mingmei to come to her, but for some reason, her feet automatically moved towards him.
Hu Mingmei approached her, lowered his head, looked at her slightly red eyes, tucked her hair behind her ear, and asked softly, "Why are you crying? Are you hurt?"
Bai Nuo shook her head and asked softly, "What about you? Why are you covered in blood? Are you injured? Where are you hurt?"
Amidst a barrage of questions, Hu Mingmei suddenly raised his hand and covered her face, stroking it reassuringly and whispering, "It's alright, this isn't my blood, it's someone else's!"
There were assassins and guests; Hu Mingmei had no idea when she got stained with their blood.
The moment Hu Mingmei touched her face, Bai Nuo smelled blood and frowned. "You have blood on your hands!"
Hu Mingmei said softly, "I'll just wash my face in a bit!"
"Manager Bai!" Just as the two were speaking softly, Zhang Wu stepped out from behind Hu Mingmei, looked her up and down, and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
Bai Nuo's attention shifted from Hu Mingmei to Zhang Wu. She remembered that Zhang Wu had pushed her aside and stepped in to shield her from the assassin. Seeing the bloodstains on Zhang Wu's clothes, she couldn't help but feel anxious as she asked, "Young Master Zhang, are you injured?"
Zhang Wu glanced at the wound on his arm. The thick cotton robe had been torn open, and blood had seeped in, spreading across his arm from the top to the bottom. He smiled nonchalantly, "It's just a minor injury, nothing to worry about."
Bai Nuo frowned, about to say something, when she heard Hu Mingmei say, "Since Young Master Zhang is injured, it would be best if he went to see a doctor!"
Bai Nuo nodded, "Yes, it's best to see a doctor. You were injured before..."
Zhang Wu chuckled softly and said, "I'm a man, protecting you is my duty..."
Before Bai Nuo could respond to his words, she saw Constable Cheng hurrying into the courtyard and couldn't help but call out, "Constable Cheng!"
Seeing that the main group was here, Constable Cheng walked over and said to Bai Nuo, "Young Master Zhang is injured. Please take him to see a doctor!"
Zhang Wu was the son of the town's richest man, and Chief Constable Cheng took him very seriously. He immediately helped Zhang Wu up and escorted him out.
Bai Nuo found the old woman and the children in the kitchen. When she found them, Aunt Liu was holding a kitchen knife and stood in front of the old woman and the two children.
Most of the servants in the Lu family were also injured. Only a few people were unharmed. The entire Lu family was dealt with by the county government officials and soldiers at Li Jinyu's behest. Although so many people had fallen, after a thorough examination, it was found that, apart from the one who died at the beginning, no one was seriously injured. They all suffered superficial wounds and no internal injuries. Li Jinyu also arranged for people to send everyone home one by one.
The uninjured servants of the Lu family were washing away the bloodstains on the ground.
The entire wedding banquet turned into chaos.
Although the assassins didn't find their way into the kitchen, the old woman was still frightened and went home early. Jiang San Niang was lying in bed, her pulse being checked.
"Where have all the assassins gone?" Jiang San Niang asked after the doctor left.
Bai Nuo said, "I heard they all left when the soldiers arrived!"
Hu Mingmei told her that these were assassins, not some scoundrels who came to rob on a whim. Moreover, they were quite strong. Although they were not as good as Lu Ying and Xia Donglai, they outnumbered Lu Ying and Xia Donglai and could hold their own against them. At that time, there were so many guests that they could not do anything to them for a while. When the soldiers arrived, they retreated quickly.
"Do you think they might be the same group of people who killed you?" Jiang San Niang asked.
Bai Nuo shook her head.
"When you were on the beam, did you get a clear look at that person's face?" Bai Nuo asked.
Jiang San Niang shook her head. "I was too nervous at the time. I was only focused on hiding so I wouldn't be discovered, and I didn't get a clear look at him. But thankfully, he didn't notice you. I was scared to death!"
Bai Nuo also found this matter particularly strange. The assassin could have discovered her, but for some reason, he didn't pull his clothes aside and waited until Constable Cheng and the others arrived. How should I put it, it was as if he was toying with them.
Once the thought came to mind, it lingered in Bai Nuo's mind and wouldn't go away.
*
They thought the matter was over and done with, since Officer Cheng had opened a case and promised to investigate it thoroughly. However, around noon the next day, for some reason, someone in town suddenly said that the murder was premeditated. Duobaoge had a dispute with a customer and deliberately used the wedding as an excuse to gather everyone together and kill them.
Some even say that Duobaoge appears to be doing various businesses, but in reality, it is an assassin organization, and the businesses on the surface are just to cover the cost of training assassins.
In just one afternoon, the rumors spread like wildfire throughout the town. Duobao Pavilion went from being packed with guests to being deserted. Even people passing by the pavilion would quicken their pace.
Bai Nuo's face darkened.
In the afternoon, Constable Cheng and his men hurriedly arrived at Duobao Pavilion. Before Bai Nuo could speak, Constable Cheng said, "Someone reported that you are harboring assassins here. Manager Bai, please come with us!"
