However, he knew what had happened and why Bai Nuo was angry, so he dared not show any pain. He could only smile and pretend to be confused, "Madam, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong?" Bai Nuo sneered when she saw him pretending to be confused. She grabbed his ear and lifted him up. "Hu Mingmei, Second Master Hu, why didn't you tell me that you have a childhood sweetheart waiting for you in your house? It would have saved me from having to rush to marry you!"
Seeing that she was genuinely jealous, Hu Mingmei laughed even harder, "It's not you who's eagerly trying to marry me, it's clearly me who's eagerly trying to marry you!"
Seeing that Hu Mingmei was about to launch into a string of sweet talk on this issue, Bai Nuo stopped arguing with him to prevent him from going off on tangents. "Stop talking nonsense, what's the deal with your childhood sweetheart?"
"Come on, let me tell you!" Hu Mingmei picked up Bai Nuo and put her on the bed. He then lay back down and picked her up as well. Bai Nuo twisted a little but didn't struggle and just lay in his arms.

She's Madam Zheng's niece and often comes to see Hu Ziyao, so we've met once or twice. At first, I didn't pay much attention to her, but later, I don't know why, she developed different feelings for me and started saying everywhere that we're childhood sweethearts. It's all nonsense. If meeting a few times when we were little makes us childhood sweethearts, then I have quite a few childhood sweethearts!"
"She wants to marry you?" Bai Nuo keenly grasped the implication in Hu Mingmei's words.
Hu Mingmei nodded, "But I was weak and sickly at the time, so how could their family be willing? Even Madam Zheng was unwilling for her niece to marry me!"
"Isn't she quite old?"

The two were talking when they somehow fell asleep. When Bai Nuo woke up, it was already dawn. As soon as she moved, Hu Mingmei opened his eyes and looked at her with a slightly hoarse voice, "Awake?"
Bai Nuo nodded, opened her eyes, and looked at the high four-legged bed and the white gauze curtains. For a moment, she couldn't remember where she was. After a while, she finally hummed in response.
"Time to get up!" Hu Mingmei ruffled her hair. "Today we're going to offer incense to our parents and open the family genealogy!"
Bai Nuo propped herself up and looked at Hu Mingmei groggily, "What time is it?"
Hu Mingmei got out of bed, grabbed a piece of clothing and put it on. "It's still early, I'll go get you some water to wash your face!"
With that, Hu Mingmei turned and left. Bai Nuo heard him open the door and sat up in bed. Looking down, she saw the marks all over her body. She quickly grabbed a piece of clothing and put it on. Afraid that Hu Mingmei might let someone in and see, she hurriedly called out, "Don't let anyone in!"
Hu Mingmei left quickly and returned quickly. When she came back, she was carrying a basin of water and said to her, "Just bear with it for now. Once the bathhouse is cleaned today, you won't have to go out to fetch water!"
Bai Nuo didn't care about that and washed her face with the water Hu Mingmei brought. Hu Mingmei waited for her to finish washing before washing herself. Just as the two of them finished washing and tidying up, Granny Wang came in with people bringing breakfast.
