Seeing Hu Mingmei looking at her with some worry, Bai Nuo smiled and comforted him, "It's okay, I just knelt down for a moment, it was just for a second, it's nothing!" Bai Nuo felt that her body was in much better shape than Hu Mingmei's right now. Hu Mingmei had been seriously ill and was only barely managing to come and save her, but she was different; she hadn't suffered any real harm.
"Are you really alright?" Hu Mingmei looked Bai Nuo up and down.
When he woke up from his unconsciousness, he was told that his wife had been summoned by these people. In the kitchen, there was soup and porridge that she had been cooking for him. Hu Mingmei was really scared at that time. He rushed over as fast as he could and asked Xia Donglai to call everyone out. When he heard the commotion inside at the gate, Hu Mingmei's heart was pounding in his chest. Fortunately, he arrived in time. She was not hurt and was alright.
Bai Nuo shook her head, "I'm really fine, don't worry, I won't push myself."
As she spoke, Bai Nuo walked outside. Lu Ying was standing there with the housekeeper, waiting for her. Bai Nuo looked at the housekeeper's tightly pursed lips and resentful eyes, and asked with a smile, "Is he dissatisfied?"
“He’s Madam Zheng’s man, so of course he’s not convinced!” Lu Ying laughed. So what if he’s not convinced? Now it’s a matter of who has the stronger fist.
"Lu Ying, you despicable and shameless scoundrel, how could you do such a thing as betraying your master!" Although the steward was being held by Lu Ying, his mouth was still free, and although his body could not move, he still kept cursing.
Lu Ying said calmly, "Everything here belongs to the Second Master. Your so-called master is nothing more than the wife of a concubine's son. My master is the Second Master. How can you be considered a traitor?"
"Tell me!" Bai Nuo looked around and saw an abacus on the box. She picked it up and said to the steward, "What is the monthly income and expenditure of the manor? What is the monthly allowance for the concubines and young masters and ladies in each courtyard? How many servants are there in the manor?"
"Pah!" The butler's eyes grew even more disdainful as he listened to Bai Nuo's seemingly logical explanation. "You country bumpkin, I'm not telling you!"
Lu Ying slapped him and yelled, "Speak more politely! If you don't want your tongue anymore, just tell me and I'll help you!"
The butler fell to the ground, and Lu Ying stepped on his back. Bai Nuo looked at him and sneered, "You don't know what's good for you, Lu Ying. Drag him away. Use whatever means you have. If he dies, I'll take responsibility!"
She never kills anyone, neither in the past nor now. Even though she has hurt Chen Zhi and witnessed the tragic state of Chen Zhi, Chen Qiuling, and Bai Dalin, she has never taken a life, even though her hands are stained with blood. But now, for Hu Mingmei, she is willing to make her hands dirty.
Because these people have a blood feud with Hu Mingmei, it's either Hu Mingmei who falls or they who die, and she doesn't want Hu Mingmei to be the one who fails!
"Yes!" Lu Ying excitedly dragged the butler away.
Bai Nuo shouted, "Peony!"
Peony followed behind Bai Nuo and respectfully responded, "Madam!" From then on, there was no longer any old master, old lady, or master and mistress in this courtyard. Bai Nuo was the only lady in this family.
"Go and invite Shaoyao and Granny over!" Bai Nuo said calmly. Sometimes having too much money isn't a good thing. Managing all that money isn't an easy task either.
Peony moved quickly and soon came over with Peony and Granny Wang. Peony was one of the people involved and had already seen these things, so she was not surprised to see them again. However, Peony and Granny Wang were different. When they saw the boxes and boxes of gold and silver on the ground, their mouths dropped open.
"Alright, don't be surprised. Come and help me count this money!" Bai Nuo was a little troubled. It would probably be tomorrow morning before she could figure it all out.
Granny Wang and Peony snapped out of their daze and immediately got back to work.
Inside the hall
At first, Madam Huang kept cursing, cursing Hu Mingmei, Bai Nuo, the unborn child, and even the deceased Princess Yu Ru. But for every curse she uttered, Hu Mingmei would have someone slap her, making her mouth full of blood and knocking out several teeth. Finally, Madam Huang dared not curse anymore.
When Huang Wenbai and his son Huang Haichuan saw their wife (their elderly mother) beaten like this, they dared not speak, but only glared angrily at Hu Mingmei.
He was filled with endless regret. Why didn't he employ more servants? How could these people be so easily defeated by Hu Mingmei and his men?
Hu Mingmei pretended not to see it.
As dusk approached, Xia Donglai's men finally returned. Xia Donglai said, "The silk shops, tea shops, rice shops, and other stores in the capital have all been recovered. The three who resisted have been placed under guard!"
Upon hearing Xia Donglai's words, Huang Wenbai was filled with anger and rage. In his fury, he spat out a mouthful of blood and said to Hu Mingmei, "Fine, very well, Hu Mingmei, you have guts," before fainting.
Huang Haichuan was barely holding on. He really hadn't expected Hu Mingmei to be so fast. Although Huang Haichuan didn't faint, he was still feeling dizzy and swaying.
Hu Mingmei nodded in satisfaction, feeling even more pleased as she looked at their pale faces.
"These are the account books and receipts for each place!" Two men behind Xia Donglai carried a box up, and Xia Donglai opened it in front of Hu Mingmei. "Because the matter was sudden, I have taken the liberty of collecting all the money and account books from various places. Please take a look, Second Master."
