Chapter 196 Making Qiao'er a Concubine

Meanwhile, Peony hurriedly told Lu Ying what had happened and asked him to find the shopkeeper. Lu Ying returned shortly after and brought the shopkeeper back. Peony quickly led her people over, but when she tried to enter the house, Peony stopped her, saying, "Second Master and Madam are inside. Let's go in later!"

She couldn't very well say that the Second Master was inside coaxing the Madam.

So the three of them waited outside.

As they waited, only Peony and the shopkeeper remained. Lu Ying needed to go home to be with his wife because it was too late.

But who knew that Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei slept soundly and didn't wake up. In the middle of the night, Hu Mingmei got up and ordered a late-night snack for Bai Nuo before sending away the person who had been waiting for almost the whole night.

The two of them made up inexplicably.

The next morning, after Hu Mingmei had breakfast with her, he went out again. At noon, Mudan told Bai Nuo that Hu Mingmei had announced to the whole capital that the head of the Hu family had changed. Everyone knew that Bai Nuo was now the wife of the Hu family. In no time, many invitations appeared at the Hu family's door, with Mudan asking Bai Nuo whether she should see him or not.

"You and Granny Wang gather them together and bring all their information to me. I'll decide after I've looked at it." Bai Nuo looked at the pile of invitations in Mudan's hand and felt a headache coming on. After thinking for a moment, she decided to see the ones she couldn't refuse.

Peony knew that she had just married into the family and was not very familiar with things in the capital, so she went down with Granny Wang to take the invitation.

Not long after, Hu Mingmei returned to have lunch with Bai Nuo. During the meal, Bai Nuo brought up the matter, and Hu Mingmei said indifferently, "If you don't want to see them, then you don't have to see them at all. They are all wives of business partners. If I see their husbands, their wives will bother you. You are not feeling well right now, so you can use this excuse to refuse them all."

Bai Nuo said, "I understand, I'll handle it accordingly."

As the two were eating lunch, Peony hurried in and said to them, "The Third Young Master is back and is waiting outside the courtyard. Should we let him in?"

The third young master, Hu Yi'an.

Bai Nuo had only met her brother-in-law once.

"I won't see them!" Hu Mingmei said decisively. She didn't want to see Huang Haichuan's family. They didn't consider the Hu family as their own. Even their son had a different name from hers. Hu Mingmei didn't consider them family either.

Herding those people into that courtyard was already the biggest concession he could make, considering their blood ties.

If these people are well-behaved, then we can live in peace forever; he never wants to see them again. But if they are not well-behaved, then he will not be polite.

But just as Hu Mingmei finished speaking, Huang Yi'an walked in and knelt down, startling Bai Nuo.

"Second Brother!" Huang Yi'an knelt down and called out.

Hu Mingmei looked at Huang Yi'an, letting him kneel there without telling him to get up. She picked up some food for Bai Nuo and asked indifferently, "What is Young Master Huang doing?"

Bai Nuo ate the food Hu Mingmei had put on her plate quietly, without saying a word.

"Second Brother!" Huang Yi'an said in a deep voice, "Don't you really care about our family ties anymore? I beg you, please release Father, Mother and Grandfather!" He didn't accuse him, so no one could say anything to blame him. If he had scolded Hu Mingmei, Bai Nuo could have found something to say, but he begged for mercy as soon as he returned.

Huang Yi'an is indeed different from Huang Yikang and Huang Ziyao. Compared to the two of them, Huang Yikang is much smarter.

"I didn't lock them up, they are still free!" Hu Mingmei said calmly. Their freedom was only restricted to the courtyard, but that little bit of freedom was enough for them. After all, Huang Wenbai's courtyard was not small, more than twice the size of an average family's house.

“But they can’t come out, which is no different from having no freedom for them!” Huang Yikang said.

"Did you come back specifically for this?" Hu Mingmei asked instead of answering.

"Yes!" Huang Yikang nodded. "I was already on my way back, but I suddenly heard that something had happened at home, so I rode all the way to the capital."

"Then you should know why I did this!" Hu Mingmei said calmly.

Huang Yikang didn't catch the emotion in Hu Mingmei's words, so he could only say, "At first, I just thought there had been a change in the family business, but I never thought you would do this, Second Brother. Of course, you are right to do this, Second Brother. I don't blame you. We were wrong before. Grandpa and Dad should have handed over the family business to you a few years ago."

Hu Mingmei gave a light hum, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Huang Yikang continued, "Second brother, I know you hate Grandpa and Father, after all, Grandmother and Uncle..."

Huang Yikang was about to continue speaking when Hu Mingmei suddenly shouted sternly, "Shut up! Get out, I don't want to see you!"

Huang Yikang opened his mouth, as if to say something, but Bai Nuo said calmly, "Young Master Huang, you should go back first. Second Master hasn't been feeling well these past few days, so he won't keep you company!"

Huang Yikang raised his head, gave Hu Mingmei a deep look, stood up, straightened his back, and said, "Second brother, take good care of yourself!" Then he walked out.

As soon as Huang Yikang left, Hu Mingmei put down her chopsticks.

Seeing that he hadn't eaten much, Bai Nuo didn't force him. She took a clean bowl, filled it with pork rib soup, and placed it in front of him. "Have some more!"
