Chapter 197 He suspected Hu Mingmei was doing it on purpose.

I've never seen such a kind person as Hu Mingmei. Even though everyone was locked up, Hu Mingmei didn't take a single penny of the dowry of Madam Zheng and Huang Wenbai's concubine, nor their earnings. He sent them all to the other courtyard untouched.

Moreover, Hu Mingmei simply didn't want them to come here. That courtyard over there was originally an independent place, more free than anyone else's.

It's not that I'm not free, but rather that I can't come here. It's just that guarding the princess's wealth makes me so uneasy.

Bai Nuo looked at the servants and said, "What are you all standing there for? Just because they say they're not going back, you won't send them back? Just because they say they're not going to call a doctor, you won't call a doctor? If anything happens to them and they tarnish Second Master's reputation, I'll hold you all accountable!"

"Third Young Master, why don't you go inside first?" a servant beside Huang Yi'an advised in a low voice. "There's plenty of time later, and your uncle..."

The servant spoke in a very low voice, and no one around except Huang Yi'an heard him. When Huang Yi'an heard this, he subconsciously glanced at the servant, but the servant only said one sentence and then stopped, immediately lowering his head.

Huang Yi'an was touched, but he pretended that nothing had happened and said through gritted teeth, "In that case, thank you, sister-in-law!" Without asking for help, he walked towards his own courtyard.

One of the remaining servants was left behind to fetch a doctor for Huang Yi'an; the rest left.

Peony stood behind Bai Nuo. "Madam, are we just going to let them go like this?" She knew Huang Yi'an well. Although he seemed like a good person, he was actually quite wicked at heart.

"What can we do if we don't let him leave?" Bai Nuo said helplessly. Now that the man has committed suicide, if we really keep him here and don't get him a doctor, people might start saying that Hu Mingmei forced his brother to his death.

Although they have different fathers and mothers, Huang Yi'an is right; they are related by blood after all. Hu Mingmei doesn't care about such things, but it's still not a good thing to say if word gets out.

After the incident, Bai Nuo did not go out to find Hu Mingmei, but waited until Hu Mingmei returned in the evening before telling him.

"They're just clowns, ignore them!" Hu Mingmei said calmly. "If they come again, just let me know, and I'll handle it when I get back!"

Bai Nuo paused, holding her chopsticks. "They are blood relatives of yours after all. You shouldn't get involved in this. I'll handle it. I can manage!"

The whole family was locked inside the house, and she had all the servants under her control. Whatever they wanted to do, they had to do whatever she said.

She would do what she could; she didn't want Hu Mingmei to be labeled a villain in addition to being known as a sickly person.

Before Hu Mingmei could say anything more, Bai Nuo changed the subject, "Tomorrow I want to bring Grandma and Bai Yu here for a visit. We've been in the capital for so long, but Grandma and the others still don't know where my home is. My third sister and I haven't been back to see them either, and we don't know if they're used to it or how they're doing."

“I’ll go with you to pick it up tomorrow!” Hu Mingmei said.

Bai Nuo nodded.

The two remained silent throughout the night. At dawn the next day, Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei led their people out and went straight to West Third Alley, where the old lady and Bai Yu lived. Hu Mingmei had found the house for them; it was two streets away from the Hu family's house, making life relatively convenient, and there weren't many people around.

Before leaving, Bai Nuo sent someone to tell Jiang San Niang to wait for her at the Hu family's house.

Upon arriving at Grandma Liu's house, Lu Ying knocked on the door. Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei didn't wait either, getting off the carriage and standing in front of the door. Lu Ying only knocked a few times before the door opened quickly. Bai Nuo immediately recognized Grandma Liu, but Grandma Liu didn't seem to notice her, instead saying, "I've told you so many times not to come again! If you come again, I won't be polite! I've never seen anyone like you, constantly harassing us!"

Bai Nuo called out, "Auntie, it's me!"

Aunt Liu suddenly came to her senses. "Young lady? Young master, what brings you here? Come in quickly!"

As Bai Nuo stepped through the door, Aunt Liu said, "Oh my, young lady, young master, you're back, but why did you bring so much stuff?"

Bai Nuo said, "It's just some food, packed from the restaurant. After lunch, you'll all come with me to my place. Auntie, who were you cursing just now? What happened while I was away?"

Aunt Liu got even angrier when she brought this up. She snorted heavily before saying, "Isn't it that Huang guy next door? He thinks he can take Qiao'er as his concubine just because he's rich. He's come over several times, and we've chased him away, but we don't dare go out anymore. I thought they were coming again, and I was just about to fight them to the death!"

"Become a concubine?" Bai Nuo exclaimed in surprise, glancing at Hu Mingmei, who was equally astonished. Lu Ying quickly asked, "What's going on?"

Jiang Qiao'er is his sister-in-law, so who would be so bold as to ask her to be a concubine?

“This matter is quite complicated. Let’s go inside first. The old lady has been talking about you. She will be very happy to see you here!” Aunt Liu said, and quickly pulled Bai Nuo inside.

Bai Nuo and the others had no choice but to suppress their doubts and follow Aunt Liu inside.

Aunt Liu led Bai Nuo and the others into the hall. After lighting the charcoal fire, she smiled and said, "The weather in the capital is so different from where we are. It's almost February, and it's still so cold. We usually have to light a charcoal fire to keep warm."
