Hu Mingmei wasn't in a hurry. He had Lu Ying drive the carriage back home, giving his men time to clean up the place. Then he took Bai Nuo inside and relit the charcoal fire, making the house warm and cozy.
In the hall below, Zheng Qiang was kneeling. When Lu Ying was dealing with him, she took extra care of him, tying him up tightly. Of course, the others weren't spared either, but Zheng Qiang and Master Zheng were tied up with extra rope. Moreover, Lu Ying didn't want to listen to Zheng Qiang speak. While looking for rope, she grabbed a rag and stuffed it into Zheng Qiang's mouth. So now Zheng Qiang could only glare at them.
Hu Mingmei and Bai Nuo waited until the guards cleaned up the scene and reported back. Then, Hu Mingmei and Bai Nuo got back into the carriage, taking Zheng Qiang with them. They left one person behind. Hu Mingmei said calmly, "When it gets dark, send them all back so they can report that they are safe and sound, and so their families don't worry."
The guard answered in a measured tone, "Yes!"
Zheng Qiang, who was listening from the side, kept staring at him. What was Hu Mingmei trying to do? Was she trying to kidnap him and demand money from his family? Or was she trying to demand money from the master? Unfortunately, he couldn't speak, and Hu Mingmei ignored him, so he could only stare helplessly.
"Second Master and Madam are back?" As soon as the carriage arrived at the Hu family's gate, Granny Wang came out to greet them and followed them into the courtyard. Bai Nuo did not let Lu Ying drive the carriage all the way to her own courtyard. Instead, she stopped the carriage in the courtyard and got out with Granny and the others. She then had Lu Ying drive the carriage they were in into the horse stable.
"Grandma, we're home!" Bai Nuo said with a faint smile, personally taking over the task of pushing the cart from Granny Liu. Then she said to Granny Wang, "This is my maternal grandmother. She's coming to stay for a while. Granny, please help her pack her things. She can stay in my courtyard!"
After all, Jiang San Niang was already waiting in the courtyard. Wang Mama had only heard from Jiang San Niang that Bai Nuo's family was coming today, so she wasn't too surprised when she saw them. However, she still subtly observed Bai Yu and his family. No one in the family, whether old or young, showed any particular surprise when they arrived in the courtyard. "Yes, this old servant will go right away!" Granny Wang said with a smile. "When Miss Jiang arrived, we had already tidied up three guest rooms. We're just waiting for the old lady to come. Once the charcoal stove is lit, she can go in and rest!"
"Thank you very much, Granny!" Bai Nuo said with a smile, bending down to the old woman and saying, "Grandma, let me show you your room. See if there's anything you're not satisfied with, so I can fix it in time!"
"What's there to be dissatisfied with?" the old woman laughed. "At home, just be casual and don't be too extravagant!"
Granny Wang went to the back to direct the servants to move their luggage, but unexpectedly, she saw Zheng Qiang huddled among the luggage in the back carriage. Startled, she stammered to Bai Nuo, "Madam... what... what's going on in the back?"
As she said this, she suddenly remembered that Hu Mingmei was also there, so she stopped talking abruptly, but she hadn't had time to recover her shocked expression, which made her look a little embarrassed.
Why is there a man among the servants? Is this man related to the lady? Does the Second Master know about this?
Granny Wang wasn't suspecting Bai Nuo of being disloyal to Hu Mingmei; she was just worried that if a bad person followed them into the house, they might be in danger to their masters.
“That’s a friend of mine. Please invite him into my courtyard!” Hu Mingmei said calmly.
However, she clearly saw that the man was tied up. How could anyone be a friend like that? But since Hu Mingmei had already said so, Granny Wang didn't dare to say anything more. So she didn't unload the luggage, nor did she ask anyone else for help. After calling away the servants who had gathered around, she personally directed the luggage cart to Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei's courtyard.
"Sister, didn't you say your family has a lot of people? Why are there so few people?" When they arrived at Hu Mingmei and Bai Nuo's courtyard, Hu Mingmei made an excuse to go to the study first. Since it was just the two of them on the way, Bai Yu finally asked the question that had been nagging at him all the way.
The old lady and the others were also very concerned about this issue, so they kept watching her, hoping that Bai Nuo could give an answer. After all, they had already decided to live here and wait for Bai Nuo's baby to be born. They hadn't walked two steps when they saw Jiang San Niang running out from inside. The group of people were so frightened by her large pregnant belly that they didn't dare to breathe. Behind her, a little girl was chasing after her eagerly.
At first, none of the people moved, their eyes fixed on her as she ran towards them. The old woman called out, "Feng'er, hurry up and help that girl. Why is she running with such a big belly?"
