Chapter 201 Releasing the People

Master Zheng knew Zheng Qiang, that scoundrel, all too well. To call him a lecher would be an understatement. He was the kind of man who would do anything for a woman, and no one he set his sights on could escape him. But here, he certainly couldn't admit it, and he also made Zheng Qiang deny it altogether.

Since entering this place, Zheng Qiang had been watching his brother, so he naturally received his brother's hint. Unfortunately, his mouth was stuffed with a rag, so he couldn't speak and could only make muffled noises.

Since Eunuch Qian had said he was there to uphold justice, he didn't show favoritism to anyone in this matter. Seeing that Zheng Qiang was sobbing and unable to speak but seemed to want to, he said, "Master Zheng Qiang probably has something to say. Second Master Hu, let him speak first!"

Hu Mingmei glanced at Xia Donglai, who then stepped forward and removed the rag from Zheng Qiang's mouth. As soon as Zheng Qiang's mouth was free, he shouted loudly to Master Zheng, "Brother, help! Hu Mingmei is going to kill me!"

Master Zheng asked feigning concern, "Second brother, what's going on? Tell me in detail. With Eunuch Qian here, he certainly won't let a bad person go unpunished, nor will he let an innocent person suffer injustice!"

Zheng Qiang immediately rolled towards Eunuch Qian's position, trying his best to roll to the front to express his gratitude, but he was too chubby and couldn't roll up no matter how hard he tried. Eunuch Qian's eyes kept twitching as he watched, and he waved his hand and said, "Alright, alright, Mr. Zheng Qiang, you can stay there! I know you've been wronged."

So Zheng Qiang stopped.

Eunuch Qian said, "Tell me why you say that?" Eunuch Qian was asking about Zheng Qiang's claim that Hu Mingmei had wronged him.

Zheng Qiang immediately launched into another tearful accusation, "I did send people to guard their house, but it was absolutely not for that little girl. That little girl is only ten years old. How could I do such a thing? That's too beastly!" A righteous and awe-inspiring expression appeared on Zheng Qiang's fleshy face.

"We clearly heard it all!" The old woman said angrily before Hu Mingmei could even speak. "Our whole family heard it!"

"You must have misheard!" Zheng Qiang said calmly. "I had so many people guarding your house because one of my cats was being naughty and ran into your house. We couldn't just walk in, so we had to have people guarding it and waiting to let you know when you opened the door. I'm so sorry we scared you!"

The old woman was so angry at his attitude that she trembled all over.

Zheng Qiang added quietly, "I'm really sorry for making you misunderstand. You said I had my eye on your child, but that's not true. You see, I just had someone stand at your door, and I didn't do anything to your girl, did I?"

"That's because we guarded so closely, that's why you didn't have a chance!" Aunt Liu said angrily.

“Even if you leave the door open, I won’t go in and take people away!” Zheng Qiang said.

"Alright, second brother!" Master Zheng said sternly, "No matter what, you're the one who caused the misunderstanding. Be more polite!"

Zheng Qiang then sincerely apologized.

Master Zheng was very satisfied and looked at Eunuch Qian and Hu Mingmei with a smile. "Look, Eunuch, it's just a misunderstanding. Second Master Hu, I'm really sorry. It was my second brother's fault. He shouldn't have made such a fuss over a kitten. He scared your in-laws. I'll take him to apologize to you later!"

Now let's see how you try to excuse yourselves, Hu Mingmei. Not only will I make you return everything you stole from me, I'll also make you suffer a lot.

“However, Eunuch Qian, although we were in the wrong, we didn’t do anything wrong. It was all a misunderstanding on their part. Master Hu even took over many of my shops because of this, causing us a lot of losses. So, shouldn’t Master Hu compensate us?” Master Zheng said again. “Of course, Eunuch Qian, you are of noble status. If you think that we merchants should value harmony and make money through peace, then I will accept this loss!”

"Second Master Hu, do you have anything to say?" Eunuch Qian looked at Hu Mingmei. Master Zheng said so, but Eunuch Qian couldn't do that. He initially said he was there to uphold justice, but he actually wanted to support Hu Mingmei. However, he didn't expect that Hu Mingmei would be completely silent.

Now that Zheng Qiang appears to be the victim, if Hu Mingmei doesn't have a legitimate reason, she really has to do as Master Zheng says, otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

The old woman shouted, "This person clearly said he wanted to take our house... to take our house..." She couldn't bring herself to say what he wanted to do with our house; it was too humiliating. "We all heard it, and the neighbors all heard it too!"

"Old Madam!" Mr. Zheng said in a deep voice, "You're getting old, and your hearing is bound to be failing. Your servants, don't they believe whatever you say? If you can misunderstand, isn't it normal for your neighbors to misunderstand as well? If you're still angry, I'll go back and give this wretched child who's making you unhappy a good beating. But you can't pin things on us that we didn't do. Although our family isn't exactly prestigious, we still value our reputation!"

Grandma was about to argue with Master Zheng when Hu Mingmei suddenly spoke up, "Grandma, don't be anxious! Father-in-law, I have something to say!"

The old woman then fell silent, and Grandpa Qian said, "Say what you want to say!"

Hu Mingmei stepped down from the head of the table, walked to Xia Donglai's side, and said calmly, "Give me your dagger!"
