Huang Wenbai and Huang Haichuan looked at each other in disbelief. Lu Ying had really just left after saying a few words, without saying another one to them. But they just couldn't believe that Hu Mingmei would be so nice. In their minds, Hu Mingmei was just as annoying as his wife (and his older brother). They were both people who meant what they said and wouldn't change their minds.
Why would they let them go?
So the father and son exchanged a glance and then stood there motionless. Madam Zheng, missing her two sons, saw Lu Ying leave and quickly followed him out to see what was happening. She indeed saw Lu Ying walking away quickly, but the courtyard gate was not closed, and the people guarding outside the gate also followed Lu Ying away.
So Madam Zheng quickly returned. As she passed Huang Wenbai and the others, Huang Haichuan even asked, "What's wrong? Did he lie to you?"
Madam Zheng didn't bother with him anymore. She walked past them with a gust of wind, not even glancing at them, and went straight back to the hall. She grabbed Huang Ziyao and left, her square face expressionless, ignoring Old Madam Huang.
Huang Ziyao was being pulled along by her mother, looking completely bewildered. She had seen that her mother and father didn't interact at all outside, so she assumed that they were having another argument. These days, her parents would argue and ignore each other from time to time. As their daughter, she was caught in the middle and had no idea how to handle it. So she could only follow her mother's lead and her father's calls.
Therefore, Huang Ziyao stopped struggling as Madam Zheng pulled her along and followed her without any explanation. When Old Madam Huang saw that Madam Zheng was ignoring her, she was also unhappy and her face was very gloomy. However, she was also thinking about what Lu Ying had said, so she couldn't care less about being angry and stared longingly at the entrance of the hall.
Although she was old and no longer involved in affairs, she had been staying in the courtyard all the time. But staying there voluntarily and being forced to stay there were two different feelings and two different things.
Before long, she saw Madam Zheng with Huang Ziyao, who was carrying a bundle on her back. The mother and daughter passed by right under her nose and disappeared.
Madam Huang could no longer care about anything else and shouted directly at Huang Haichuan, "Chuan'er, go and see your wife!"
When Huang Haichuan saw his wife and daughter leaving, with his mother shouting, he ran out after them. Once outside, he realized that the gate to the courtyard was indeed open, and his wife and child had indeed left without looking back.
So he turned around and said to his parents, "Dad, Mom, I'm going back now to change my clothes."
I wonder if his several charming concubines are still around. I miss them terribly after not seeing them for so long.
"Chuan'er!" Huang Wenbai's rooster crowed, stopping Huang Haichuan. "Is the courtyard gate really open?"
"It's really open!" Huang Haichuan nodded affirmatively. "Ziyao and her mother have already left. I need to go back to my own yard now. I'll take a shower first to get rid of the bad luck!"
Being locked up by Hu Mingmei for so long, isn't that just bad luck?
Knowing that he could really leave, Huang Wenbai felt much better. He walked back to the hall with his hands behind his back and sat down next to his wife. Old Madam Huang looked at him, hesitant to speak.
"Madam, please speak your mind!" Huang Wenbai said calmly.
After hesitating for a moment, Madam Huang finally spoke, "Husband, everything in this house, really..." She stopped there and didn't finish her sentence.
But Huang Wenbai understood what his wife wanted to say. She was asking, "Are you really willing to give everything in the family to Hu Mingmei?"
Huang Wenbai was naturally unwilling. Everything in this house was prepared for his Huang family, it all belonged to him, Huang Wenbai, and would be his sons and grandsons in the future. How could he be willing to give it up to someone else? If it weren't for fame and fortune, who would be willing to marry into another family and change their surname to someone else's? Even if it was the imperial surname, Huang Wenbai didn't feel much honor.
Saying I'm willing is a lie!
but--
"That's all we can do for now. Who would have thought that bastard would actually bring back all his old subordinates!" Huang Wenbai said grimly. If Hu Mingmei didn't have those old subordinates, could he have taken back everything from the Hu family in such a short time?
No, Hu Mingmei's current actions can't be called taking back; it's more accurate to call it seizing.
"Didn't all those people go with that woman back then?" Old Madam Huang asked suspiciously. When that little bastard died, none of those people came out. How come they're out now?
Huang Wenbai shook his head.
Although Princess Yu Ru was his legal wife and they had shared a bed for many years, she had always been wary of him. He didn't know how many tricks she had up her sleeve. Although he won the later struggle, Princess Yu Ru died, her son died, and her only remaining grandson was sickly and didn't seem to have much time left. But now, Huang Wenbai realized he was wrong.
He thought he had obtained Princess Yu Ru's trump card and had everything in the Hu family, but when he saw the Royal Guard, Huang Wenbai realized that the Royal Guard was her biggest trump card.
“Those people belong to the royal family. Our family doesn’t have any royal relatives now. Can we petition His Majesty to take that group back into the royal family?” said Old Madam Huang. As long as Hu Mingmei is free of these people, then Hu Mingmei will no longer be a threat.
Huang Wenbai shook his head. "Did you see that day? Those people all had young faces. I'm afraid they no longer belong to the royal family!" That group of people from back then were really dead. He saw it clearly and later confirmed it. Not a single one of them was alive. Although the royal guards belong to the royal family, they are not hereditary. When someone dies, their descendants don't have to fill the vacancy. In other words, the group under Hu Mingmei's command belongs entirely to him. Even if His Majesty himself came, he couldn't take that group of people away.
