“I eat it occasionally…” Bai Nuo said, but before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by the emperor, “You are not worthy of Hu Mingmei. Although Hu Mingmei is a merchant and has a lower status, he is still a descendant of a princess of our dynasty and has royal blood in his veins, while you are just a commoner.”
“I also feel that I am not good enough for Third Sister!” Bai Nuo said calmly. “At first, when he said he wanted to marry me, I hesitated. Although he never revealed his family background to me, I knew from his words and actions that there was a big gap between us.”
"Then why didn't you leave him sooner?" the emperor asked. "You know he deserves someone better!"
“Who can argue with that!” Bai Nuo nodded, quite agreeing with the emperor’s point of view. “When I wanted to leave him and withdraw, he was the one who kept trying to prove that the gap between us was not an obstacle.”
Upon hearing this, the emperor's face darkened. "You mean he's been relentlessly pursuing you?"
“No!” Bai Nuo said resolutely, “I can’t live without him, I love him. You don’t know, the first time I met this person was in a small grove. He had a relapse of his illness and collapsed. I gave him medicine and also took his jade pendant as a token. Not long after, he came looking for me and said that since I took his jade pendant, he had no choice but to follow me. At that time, everything he had was very expensive to me. But this person was really pitiful. He couldn’t even catch a fish, and he was full of illnesses. He had no parents and no home.”
When the emperor saw Bai Nuo recounting how she met Hu Mingmei with a pained expression, his heart softened. When he heard Bai Nuo say that Hu Mingmei had no home, he couldn't help but interrupt her, "The Hu family is his home!"
“Yes!” Bai Nuo nodded. “The Hu family is his home, that’s true. He grew up in the Hu family. But the princess is gone, his parents are gone, and there’s no one left in the house. Only a pack of jackals and tigers are left. Is a house with only jackals and tigers still a home?”
Bai Nuo looked at the emperor and asked, "Are you still listening? The water's boiling?"
One moment the man was trembling with fear, the next he turned cold. The emperor suddenly found it amusing. "You're not afraid of me anymore?"
"If it were just His Majesty here, of course I would be afraid, after all, His Majesty is the ruler of the world. But if it were someone who wants to separate me from my child's father, why should I be afraid?" I might even fight him to the death.
"How many months old is the child?" the emperor asked.
"Two months!"
"You shouldn't talk about that everywhere!"
Bai Nuo suddenly choked. "Didn't you just ask that out of the blue?" Besides, Bai Nuo didn't believe that the emperor didn't know she was pregnant; he was just pretending not to know.
"Let's eat!" the emperor said. "Since you're not feeling well, you don't need to stand. Sit down!"
Bai Nuo didn't mince words and actually sat down; she really couldn't stand standing the whole time.
The emperor ate his meal for more than an hour without saying anything unpleasant. Seeing that the emperor didn't talk while eating, Bai Nuo quietly ate along with him.
The emperor put down his chopsticks, and Bai Nuo followed suit. Seeing that the emperor had finished eating, Bai Nuo stood up to pour him some tea, but the emperor said, "Alright, go and call Lai Fu in!"
Lai Fu was referring to the person who had come with the emperor. Bai Nu responded softly and then called Lai Fu in.
Come
After Fu entered, the emperor dismissed Bai Nuo. Bai Nuo was happy to be away from the emperor and left without a word. As soon as Bai Nuo left, Fu said, "Your Majesty has a good appetite today! It seems that Madam Hu is quite charming!"
The emperor sneered, "Sharp-tongued!"
Upon hearing this, Lai Fu's heart skipped a beat. "Is it because Young Madam Hu has been disrespectful to you?"
As for Bai Nuo, after she came out, she saw Hu Mingmei waiting outside. When Bai Nuo saw her, she reached out her hand to her. Bai Nuo put one hand on her waist and handed her hand to Hu Mingmei. Hu Mingmei pulled Bai Nuo over, supported her waist and led her away, asking softly, "Did he make things difficult for you?"
Bai Nuo shook his head. "No, it wasn't difficult at all. I just said some things that might have made people unhappy, but I didn't want to tell Hu Mingmei these things. "It's the first time I've seen a living emperor. I'm so nervous."
Hu Mingmei looked at her with heartache, "We won't see him again!"
"Will it work?"
Hu Mingmei nodded. "This was an accident." He didn't know why the emperor had come out, but the emperor didn't like to summon the wives of his ministers, let alone his family members.
Bai Nuo no longer wanted to ask why the emperor was here, because while inside, Bai Nuo had already fully experienced the emperor's "affection" for Hu Mingmei.
After arriving at her room, Bai Nuo went straight to sleep. Although she hadn't done any physical work during that hour, it had been mentally and physically exhausting.
Looking at Bai Nuo's calm face, Hu Mingmei felt a pang of heartache. She wanted to stay a little longer to keep her company, but the emperor was still in the private room, so Hu Mingmei could only suppress her reluctance and go to greet him.
Bai Nuo slept until the afternoon before waking up. As soon as she opened her eyes, her heart skipped a beat. The emperor was still here. How could she have fallen asleep?
After getting out of bed, Bai Nuo quickly tidied herself up and went out. Just as she opened the door, Qing He came in and smiled at Bai Nuo, saying, "Second Master is right. Young Madam should be awake by now."
Bai Nuo didn't have time to think about why Qinghe would say that, and hurriedly asked, "Where... is that person?"
