Be a good son to your father.
Bai Nuo pondered Bai Dalin's words carefully. Her father was Bai Dalin, and Bai Dalin told her to be filial to him. Did Bai Dalin mean that she should be filial to him?
Shouldn't you take better care of Bai Dalin?
Bai Nuo couldn't quite grasp what kind of crazy move this was for a moment.
"Dad, what do you mean? I don't really understand!" Bai Nuo looked at Bai Dalin blankly. If Bai Dalin really was what she thought he was, then... Bai Dalin was really too slutty.
"Cough..." Bai Dalin coughed unconsciously. "What I mean is, you're making money now, but you know your own problems. So, I thought I'd help you keep this money safe. Here's what you do: bring me all your wages for today, and I'll keep them for you."
Bai Dalin was initially a little embarrassed, but then he thought, "This is wrong! Why should I be embarrassed? He's her father, isn't he? He gave birth to her, gave her life, and raised her to this age. It's only right that she gives him money to spend now that she has it."
This is what she owes him!
"Dad wants me to give you the money?" Bai Nuo looked at Bai Dalin in disbelief, so shocked that she doubted her own ears.
Even if she hadn't earned any money yet, why should she give it to him? Bai Dalin ignores her for thirteen out of twelve months a year, so why should she give him her money? Just because she's his daughter?
"Nono, don't misunderstand, we don't mean to take your money." Chen Qiuling felt that the matter was almost certain. Bai Dalin had asked Bai Nuo for money, and Bai Nuo certainly wouldn't dare to refuse, so Chen Qiuling's attitude towards Bai Nuo became even better. "You know, your problem is quite serious. Your father is afraid that you won't be able to manage your money and will be cheated. So, we thought we would keep it for you for now, and we will pay you back when you grow up."
Why does this sound so familiar to Bai Nuo?
"Mom, what's wrong with me?" Bai Nuo asked blankly, looking like she really didn't understand.
When Bai Nuo first called Chen Qiuling "Mother," Chen Qiuling was almost choked. She was more shocked than happy. "Cough... You're still young. You can't even recognize money properly." She couldn't very well say that Bai Nuo was an idiot in front of Bai Dalin, could she?
"Yes, that's exactly what I meant!" Bai Dalin quickly replied.
"Dad, I have no money!" Bai Nuo said calmly, looking at the plate of food in front of him and eating one bite after another. "Really, I didn't earn a single penny today, and I even got beaten up by Huang Yanfen!"
"How is that possible?" Bai Dalin's voice rose eight octaves, dragging the plate of food in front of Bai Nuo in front of him. Bai Nuo was eating, and the plate was instantly empty when Bai Dalin dragged it away. "What happened? Why didn't you make any money? Huang Yanfen clearly said you went to sell things, how could you not have any money? You're lying to your father, aren't you? Be careful or I'll beat you up!"
Chen Qiuling's slender hand quietly touched Bai Dalin under the table again. This idiot, he's asking this fool for money right now, can't he be a little nicer? What if he scares this fool into a panic by being so fierce?
Chen Qiuling also didn't believe that Bai Nuo had no money.
I went out to sell things all day. I went out with all the goods and came back empty-handed. I should at least have some money.
"Dad, I really don't have any money!" Bai Nuo paused with his chopsticks, then stood up abruptly and shook his clothes from head to toe. "Dad, look, I really don't have any money. Huang Yanfen lied to you."
Bai Dalin opened his mouth, about to speak, when Bai Nuo interrupted him, "Dad, by the way, you still have to give me two taels of silver. I'm going to get some medicine. Did you see Huang Yanfen beat me? Did you see the wounds on my face? Huang Yanfen did all that! It hurts so much!"
Bai Nuo stood there and started babbling on and on, "Didn't you just say you'd keep the money for me and give it to me when I grew up? No need to wait until later, you can give it to me now. I'm an adult now, Dad, can you give me the dowry my mother left behind?"
"Alright, alright!" Bai Dalin was completely convinced that he couldn't get anything out of Bai Nuo. The more Bai Nuo talked, the more she would say that she had given him all the dowry she had prepared for him. "You'd better get out of here. What's the point of eating if you haven't made any money? Get the hell out of here and stop wasting food!"
As he spoke, he grabbed all the bowls and chopsticks in front of Bai Nuo and pushed her out.
The sky was getting slightly dark, and you could vaguely see the scenery in the distance and the stars just beginning to appear on the horizon. There was no dinner to be had. Not only was there no dinner for myself, but there was also no dinner for Grandma and Ah Yu.
Fortunately, Bai Nuo was not the kind of person who would willingly go hungry and suffer injustice; he walked out of the house with his hands behind his back.
Leaving the Bai family's gate and turning left, you'll find a straight road. After walking along the road for about fifteen minutes, you'll reach a fork in the road—forward, the road is straight and flat, with no weeds or anything like that around; to the left, there's a dirt path with ankle-high weeds on both sides, adding to the desolate atmosphere.
When it came time to choose, Bai Nuo didn't hesitate. She lifted her foot and walked to the left, strolling leisurely as if she were in her own backyard.
At the end of the path lay endless rice paddies. It was the time when the rice grains were laden with sap. In the dim light, one could see rows of green or yellowish-green pointed ears of rice in the fields. When the wind blew, the unique fragrance of rice filled the air.
Bai Nuo rolled up her trousers, took off her shoes and socks, and strode down to the nearest rice paddy. She wanted to catch fish, specifically rice paddy fish.
