Bai Nuo turned Hu Mingmei over and supported the back of his head. Hu Mingmei's body was still submerged in the water, and his entire face was covered in mud. Bai Nuo quickly used water to clean the mud off his face before dragging him ashore.
"Hey!" Bai Nuo placed Hu Mingmei next to the fire. He hadn't seen him because it was dark, but now he noticed that Hu Mingmei's face was flushed. Bai Nuo was startled and quickly pressed Hu Mingmei's philtrum.
With no response, Bai Nuo began performing CPR.
"Wake up, hey..."
"Let go of our Second Master!"
Suddenly, a loud shout rang out. Bai Nuo felt a strong gust of air brush past her ear before she was pushed aside. Then, a gleaming sword appeared in front of her.
Hu Mingmei was also held in someone's arms.
Bai Nuo almost couldn't catch his breath, staring fixedly at the person in front of him—or rather, at Leng Jian.
This was the first time she had ever seen such a cold weapon. It was real, completely different from what she saw on TV. The chilling aura emanating from it made her feel a murderous intent.
“I…” Bai Nuo forced herself to calm down, “I didn’t mean any harm. He’s drowning and has been unconscious for a while.”
"Second Master!" The man abruptly sheathed his sword and patted Hu Mingmei's face. Unfortunately, Hu Mingmei didn't react at all. The man quickly helped Hu Mingmei up, and in the process, he didn't forget to give Bai Nuo a warning look. Seeing that Bai Nuo didn't move, he patted Hu Mingmei's back twice.
This is what Bai Nuo saw. He didn't know how he did it, but with one slap, Hu Mingmei vomited up the water he was drowning.
"Second Master!"
Hu Mingmei slowly woke up, his breath faint. Bai Nuo noticed that he was having trouble breathing again and kindly reminded him, "He seems to be having difficulty breathing again."
"I don't need your reminder!" the man said fiercely, taking out a small bottle from his pocket, pouring out two pills and feeding them to Hu Mingmei.
After taking the medicine, Hu Mingmei finally felt alive again. "Lu Ying? What brings you here?"
Seeing that Hu Mingmei was out of danger, Lu Ying wore a mournful face and said, "I've been following Second Master all the way here. Second Master, why did you go into the water? It's the fifteenth today!"
Hu Mingmei, the civil affairs official, didn't answer. He couldn't very well tell Lu Ying that he was hungry, so he decided to go down to catch fish, but he fell in instead of catching any.
Seeing that Hu Mingmei remained silent, Lu Ying assumed he was in distress and became even more anxious, pleading, "Second Master, let's go back. A letter has arrived from the capital."
Bai Nuo stared at the master and servant pair before him. Hu Mingmei had just been polite and courteous, but in that instant, her expression turned ferocious.
"Very well!" Hu Mingmei leaned against Lu Ying's chest and closed his eyes briefly. "Let's go back, young lady. I will definitely repay your life-saving grace in the future."
Bai Nuo was suddenly called out, and felt a little embarrassed. She grinned and replied stiffly, "Sure, sure." The first time she saw him, he was sick; the second time she saw him, he was drowning. Such a fragile person, she never wanted to see him again.
