"Bai Nuo... Bai Nuo..."
"What is she shouting?" Inside the room, Bai Nuo, Grandma, and A Yu were all happy because they had ten bracelets when Chen Qiuling's shouts came from outside, getting louder and louder, and it looked like she was about to reach them.
"Hide quickly..." the old woman said hurriedly, and then she got up and went out to greet them.
Bai Nuo turned around and hid the bracelet in the pile of clothes. Then she sat on the bed. Just as she sat down, Chen Qiuling came to the door and bumped into the old woman.
She hurried along, and just as she was about to enter, she bumped into the old woman who was coming out, her face almost touching the old woman's.
"Ouch!" Chen Qiuling patted her chest and complained to her grandmother, "Mom, what are you doing here? You scared me to death!"
The old woman looked at Chen Qiuling without answering. "What are you doing? Why aren't you resting in the house? Why are you running around like this?" As a mother-in-law, she was also looking forward to Bai Dalin, her late-born son. Chen Qiuling was getting on in years, and seeing her wandering around, she couldn't help but say a few words, "It wasn't easy for you to have this child. Don't run around like this."
Speaking of this, Chen Qiuling became even more dissatisfied. "Mom, I don't want to run around either, but it's already this late and no one is cooking for me. You're all here, and no one is doing any housework. Even if I don't eat, the children still need to eat."
It turns out they came looking for someone to cook for them.
“I’ll make it for you, Nuonuo has to go out to work!” the old woman said immediately.
"Fine, fine, fine!" Chen Qiuling said impatiently. "Hurry up! You don't know what you've been doing all day, and you haven't earned a single penny. You still have the nerve to work!" She didn't care who cooked for her, as long as she had food to eat.
Then she turned and left. When the old woman saw Chen Qiuling leave, she turned back to the two of them and said, "Go do what you need to do, hurry up, I'm going to cook for her."
Bai Nuo nodded, then pulled A Yu out. They busied themselves in the small, dilapidated house, and by the time they finished, it was almost afternoon. Not daring to delay, they quickly left.
Unbeknownst to Bai Nuo, no sooner had she left than Chen Qiuling followed her into the dilapidated house. After searching around, she only found some flour and similar items before reluctantly returning home.
**
Upon arriving in town, Bai Nuo pulled A Yu along quickly into San Niang's Cloth Shop. She hadn't wanted to bring A Yu along, but he insisted on coming, saying that Chen Qiuling's appearance was too terrifying and he was afraid she would beat him at home.
So Bai Nuo had no choice but to take him with her.
Inside San Niang's Cloth Shop, Jiang San Niang and Jiang Qiao'er were both there. Seeing the two of them, Bai Nuo felt quite awkward.
However, Jiang San Niang greeted her generously, "You're so late today? I thought you weren't coming. Does your wound still hurt?"
Bai Nuo shook her head. "Manager Jiang, I came here today to give you this!" Bai Nuo took out a cloth bag from the basket. It was wrapped in layers of cloth. When she opened it, ten bracelets appeared in front of Jiang San Niang.
Jiang Qiao'er also went over to take a look, and was startled, "So many? Where did you get them?"
“I made them myself!” Bai Nuo said. “I made a lot this time…” Bai Nuo was actually quite afraid that Jiang San Niang wouldn’t accept them. After all, they had agreed that each string would cost thirty taels, but she had brought ten strings over at once, and was asking for three hundred taels. She was worried that Jiang San Niang would refuse.
"I want both!" Jiang Sanniang giggled, covering her mouth. "Don't worry, sister, our promise will definitely not change. Do you want cash or banknotes?"
Bai Nuo was relieved. "I need silver notes." She couldn't carry three hundred taels of silver with her; wouldn't it attract thieves? "Also, Sister, I'd like to borrow a table."
"Let Qiao'er get them for you..." Jiang San Niang said as she went upstairs. She came down in a short while, carrying ten exquisite boxes. When she came down, she first gave Bai Nuo three hundred-tael silver notes, and then put the bracelets into the boxes one by one, one bracelet per box.
Bai Nuo was quite impressed. When she brought it over, the pearl bracelet might not have been that high-end, but after Jiang San Niang packaged it like that, it immediately became a high-end item. No wonder Jiang San Niang, a woman, could manage such a large cloth shop; she was a shrewd businesswoman.
"Why are you still selling this?" Jiang Qiao'er moved a table for Bai Nuo, and Bai Nuo quickly went over to help her. Looking at Bai Nuo's basket of things, Jiang Qiao'er couldn't help but ask.
Isn't making these bracelets much more profitable than making food? She already has several hundred taels of silver, why bother with all that effort?
"Little by little, you make a lot!" Bai Nuo laughed. In her previous life, some people earned enough to buy several houses by selling snacks. She dared not underestimate any penny. Maybe she would have to rely on every penny to buy a big house.
After moving the table outside, Jiang Qiao'er lifted the white cloth from Bai Nuo's basket, reached in and took one, saying, "I want to buy one." She liked this; it was sweet and chewy.
"I'll give one to each of you..." Bai Nuo said, "Give one to your sister, is she alright?"
While speaking, she secretly glanced at the cloth shop. Jiang San Niang was selling bracelets to a lady, and the deal was quickly made.
"Those two are even closer!" Jiang Qiao'er rolled her eyes. She felt like throwing up. She didn't know how Yu Ziqing coaxed her sister. The two of them were even more inseparable. Either he came to see her, or she went to see him.
"I'm telling you, I only want this one string of skewers, I don't want anything else!" Jiang Qiao'er didn't have anything to do inside, so she stood outside the door watching Bai Nuo sell things while complaining to him. It was hot, and Bai Nuo's business was doing quite well. But just when the three of them were busy, a scream came from inside San Niang's Cloth Shop.
