Chapter 63 Grandma is Paralyzed

"Yes!" Bai Nuo nodded and told the truth, "We moved back to the old house, but it's either leaking rain or drafty. We can't live there without fixing it."

"Come in with me. I'll give you the hammer and nails. Your brother Tie Niu will be back soon. I'll have him deliver the tiles to you then!" The village chief said as he walked into the main room.

Once inside the main room, the village chief went to fetch the items. Bai Nuo stood in the middle of the room waiting, and as soon as the village chief brought the items out, she quickly said, "Grandpa, how much are these things? I'll pay you. I won't take them for nothing!"

"It's not worth much!" The village chief waved his hand, not caring about it. "When the time comes, just tell your brother Tie Niu how many tiles you used and give him the money." After a pause, the village chief thought for a moment and then said directly, "Bai Nuo, I know you are a good child, and your father is also very unreasonable, but no matter what, he is still your father. Don't be so impulsive and make things so embarrassing."

Bai Nuo nodded silently.

Seeing this, it was clear that Bai Nuo hadn't listened, so the village chief stopped talking and waved for Bai Nuo to go back.

The old house and the Bai family's house were side by side, not far apart. Before Jiang Wanyin married into the family and Bai Dalin was not as well-off, Bai Dalin and his grandmother lived in this old house, which was considered the Bai family's ancestral home. Later, when Jiang Wanyin married into the family and their conditions improved, they built a small house, which was far less nice than it is now. Later, Bai Dalin learned carpentry, and their conditions improved completely, which led to the current scale of the Bai family's house.

As Bai Nuo walked towards her home, she happened to run into Bai Dalin coming out. Bai Dalin was late for work, so he was walking in a hurry. But when he saw Bai Nuo, he paused noticeably, then walked past her as if he hadn't seen her.

Ignoring him, Bai Nuo stepped into the dilapidated house. The house faced a bad direction, and even though it was already late morning and the sun was starting to get scorching, the house still had a cold and damp smell.

In addition, Bai Nuo thought he wouldn't stay here anymore, and he also stayed here for a few days to catch river clams, so the place smelled like river delicacies.

Grandma was already fast asleep. Bai Nuo went over to check on her, reached out and touched her forehead. It was a little cool and sweaty, so Bai Nuo wiped it away.

Seeing the mess in the house, Bai Nuo began to clean up. First, Bai Dalin returned all the things they had brought from the old house to the Bai family's place. Second, Bai Dalin hadn't thrown away any of their things; the pots and pans were all in good condition.

But they were all piled up together.

Bai Nuo first separated the quilts, clothes, and cotton cloth from the pots and pans. She had brought the quilts and cotton cloth herself, so they were still clean, but the clothes were already dirty. Bai Nuo casually threw them into the bucket, intending to wash them later.

Pots, pans, and bowls are also included.

No one has lived in the house for a long time. Even though Bai Nuo makes snacks here every day, she just came back today. Bai Nuo soaked a rag in water and wiped all the beds, dish racks and other things. She also washed the dishes and chopsticks and took them outside to dry.

Just after washing the dishes, Bai Yu returned with the old doctor.

"Why did it take you so long?" Bai Nuo asked casually, putting down the bucket of clothes she was carrying.

Ah Yu whispered to her, "There are plenty of other wives, but I only invited him because I saw no one else. His consultation fee is also very high, five taels of silver."

Bai Yu casually handed five taels of silver to Bai Nuo.

"Whatever price you ask for." Bai Nuo took the silver and called the old doctor, who was still examining their house, into the house. "Doctor, this way."

"This room is a bit damp. If the patient is staying here, it would be better for her to get more sun." The doctor's first words upon entering the room were to tell the old woman to get more sun.

Bai Nuo agreed.

This house is just a temporary place to stay; I won't be staying there for long.

"Doctor, how is my grandma?" Bai Nuo couldn't help but worry when she saw the doctor sit down and take her pulse for a long time without saying a word. This doctor, at least say something, otherwise it will be too scary.

"Turn her over first." The old doctor gave the order, and Bai Nuo and Bai Yu ran over. The three of them worked together to turn the old woman over, and the old doctor then cut open the clothes on the old woman's back.

"Bai Yu, you go out first!" Bai Nuo said immediately.

Bai Yu thought the old lady was seriously ill and went out crying.

When the old woman's clothes were cut open, her back was covered in bruises, and her entire back was so thin and bony that you could see the bones in her back. Even though the doctor was very knowledgeable and had seen a lot, he was still shocked to see this. "How...how did this happen?"

"She just fell last night." Bai Nuo stared at the old woman's bruised back, forcing herself to calm down and suppress the urge to confront Bai Dalin again.

I wonder if Bai Dalin will feel heartache or guilt when he sees his mother's back in this state?

"This fall is too serious!" The doctor shook his head. He didn't dare to ask how the fall happened. He carefully felt every bone in the old woman's body, and then stopped at a dent in the skin. He asked her, "You said your old woman couldn't stand up or move after the fall?"

Bai Nuo thought about it carefully. After the old woman fell, it was she and Bai Yu who helped her up and put her on the bed. The old woman didn't move at all and stayed in that position all night. "Yes, she didn't move at all and couldn't speak."
