"Stop crying!" Bai Nuo slapped the little boy's leg and yelled, "If you cry again, I'll throw you down!"—The child's voice stopped abruptly.
The world finally quieted down, and Bai Nuo breathed a sigh of relief. She said to the child, "Forget it, go home. Don't come here again. If you want to eat fish, why don't you ask your parents to catch them? Why do you have to come here? There are water ghosts here that eat children like you who can't swim."
Seeing the child's face growing paler, Bai Nuo waved his hand with satisfaction, "But it's in a good mood today, so it'll let you go for now. If you do it again, it really will eat you up. Let's go!"
After watching the child leave, Bai Nuo didn't bother to find out whose family the child belonged to, nor did she notice Bai Yu's hesitant expression. She was preoccupied with what to eat for lunch when trouble came knocking.
"Bai Nuo! Bai Nuo!" Shouts and curses came from outside the door. "You bastard child, born without a mother and raised without a father, are too scared to come out after having sex? How can there be such a vicious person as you in the world? Not only did you abandon your own parents, but you also want to harm others! How can you be so vicious? Huh? When you did these things, weren't you afraid that your children wouldn't have enough milk? Weren't you afraid that they would die from festering sores?" The voices grew louder and louder, the curses becoming more and more vile!
Bai Nuo went straight out, but after thinking for a moment, she went back to the kitchen to fetch a basin of water for washing vegetables before hurriedly opening the door. The person outside was overjoyed to see the Bai family's door open and was about to start cursing again when he was suddenly doused with a basin of cold water, and his cursing stopped abruptly.
Bai Nuo stood in front of the gate, coldly looking at the people below, holding a basin in her hand. "Huang Yanfen, what's wrong with you in broad daylight?" Usually, Huang Yanfen would take advantage of the villagers everywhere. Why is she not taking advantage of them today but instead coming here to call back their souls?
"Ah!" Huang Yanfen screamed, completely soaked like a drowned rat, her hair hanging down her face, with a few vegetable leaves still on her head. She looked utterly ridiculous. She angrily raised her head, ready to curse again, when she heard Bai Nuo coldly say, "If you curse again, I'll throw urine at you instead of water!"
Huang Yanfen looked at her in fear, and suddenly remembered the smelly urine. She froze for a moment, not knowing whether to continue cursing or not.
Bai Nuo sneered, "I don't care what you're here for, get out of here right now, or I'll definitely splash you!"
Huang Yanfen remained standing still. Seeing this, Bai Nuo immediately rolled up her sleeves, turned around, and walked away, saying, "You're not leaving? You wait!"
Seeing that Bai Nuo was serious, Huang Yanfen quickly ran away, leaving behind the words, "Wait for me, I will definitely come back!"
After Huang Yanfen left, Bai Nuo slowly walked back. "Just wait then," he thought. "Didn't Grey Wolf often say that when he was bullied by Happy Sheep?" But had Grey Wolf ever eaten any mutton?
After thinking about it, Bai Nuo went back to get her things and then stood at the door waiting.
A little while later, Bai Nuo saw Huang Yanfen and Bai Dajiang arrive with a child. Only then did Bai Nuo realize that the brat was Huang Yanfen's child. No wonder he was so unruly; like father, like son!
Like begets like, and a mouse's child will steal oil and dig holes. This child's parents are Bai Dajiang and Huang Yanfen, no wonder he doesn't learn good things!
Many villagers carrying hoes passed by the Bai family's house. When they saw Bai Dajiang hurrying towards the Bai family's house, they didn't go back for lunch and waited on the side to watch the excitement.
After hearing the commotion inside the house, Chen Qiuling came out to see what was happening, her pregnant belly just beginning to show, her eyes sparkling with glee.
Ha, yet another one coming to cause trouble for Bai Nuo.
"Hey, Dajiang..." Seeing that Bai Dajiang was obviously here to cause trouble, a busybody villager asked, "Bai Dajiang, what are you doing here with your whole family? Here to have lunch with Bai Nuo? Oh dear, the lunch at Bai Nuo's house isn't very good!" Bai Nuo could even drive away his own father. Although many people in the village felt that Bai Nuo was innocent, many others were unwilling to associate with Bai Nuo's family, which resulted in Bai Nuo having few friends in the sugarcane fields.
"I came to have dinner with her?" Bai Dajiang said angrily. "I came to settle accounts with her. Look, my wife and my child are soaking wet. It's all her fault!"
Bai Nuo and the villagers all looked at Bai Dajiang's child and Huang Yanfen. They saw that Huang Yanfen and the child were soaking wet. Bai Nuo was stunned for a moment. It's not surprising that Huang Yanfen had just returned and hadn't had time to change her clothes. But the child had been gone for so long and hadn't changed his clothes. Although the weather was hot, it was easy to get overheated and catch a cold.
"What did I do that you want to settle accounts with me for?" Bai Nuo asked curiously. She really didn't understand why Bai Dajiang wanted to settle accounts with her!
"My son fell into your fishpond, you have to take responsibility!" Bai Dajiang shouted, pulling his child over. "Look, it's just a little kid like him, and he actually fell into your fishpond. What if something happens to him?"
Bai Nuo rolled her eyes. "Didn't you ask him why he fell in?" This brat must have gone home and told on him, but didn't tell his parents why he fell in!
"Little child, tell me yourself, why did you fall in? And how did you get out? Don't lie, because water ghosts come and eat children who lie!"
