At that moment, a fierce argument was taking place at the old house. Bai Nuo pricked up her ears and listened to every word.

The things that Bai Nuo threw out, belonging to Bai Dalin, Chen Qiuling, and Chen Zhi, were piled up on the bed, on the floor, and even at the door and in the kitchen. It was a mess, and no one wanted to tidy it up. Since there wasn't enough room on the bed, Bai Dalin and Chen Qiuling stood in the only place where they could stand, one with his hands on his hips and the other with his fists clasped, glaring angrily.
Chen Zhi, indifferent to the situation, made a small space by the bed to sit down and watched his mother and stepfather argue.
Chen Qiuling no longer looked scared. Her eyebrows were raised, and she looked coldly at Bai Dalin. "How many things are you hiding from me?"
As the lady of the house and Bai Dalin's wife, Chen Qiuling had no idea that Bai Dalin had so much money. If Bai Nuo hadn't spoken up, Chen Qiuling felt that she might have been kept in the dark by Bai Dalin for the rest of her life!
"Don't you know how much money I have?" Bai Dalin looked at Chen Qiuling speechlessly. "When have I ever brought money home without telling you? I've been a carpenter for so many years, twenty years! What's wrong with me having a little money? Besides, didn't you say you brought back a thousand taels of silver last time? You know that, right? I really don't have as much money as Bai Nuo said. Bai Nuo is lying to you, and you believe it just because others do!"
Normally, Chen Qiuling would have believed Bai Dalin's words, but today, for the first time in her life, she felt a sense of crisis. A woman really can't do without money, so she wasn't fooled by Bai Dalin. She stretched out her palm and glared at him, "Don't give me this useless talk. Where's the money? Give it to me, I'll keep it safe for you!"
"Don't ask me for money! From today onwards, I can't give you any large sums of money from the house. Small sums are fine, but large sums are absolutely out of the question. Don't even think about it!" Bai Dalin refused outright!
"Bai Dalin, don't you love me anymore?" Chen Qiuling exploded upon hearing Bai Dalin's rejection, lunging at him and biting and scratching him. "Do you only love yourself? Do you? I'm carrying your child! If I'd known this would happen, I wouldn't have married you!" Chen Qiuling felt a huge sense of loss when she learned that Bai Dalin kept so much money for himself. He had so much money, yet he only gave her a little each time? Did he not love her? So Chen Qiuling wanted to test him, and that test revealed the truth, leaving her feeling wronged.
"I'm a widow, I married you without regard for my reputation, and this is how you treat me!" Chen Qiuling said, sobbing. "I don't want to live anymore, I don't want to live anymore, what's the point of me living?" She cried and pounded her stomach repeatedly, as if she wouldn't stop until she killed the baby!
Bai Dalin grabbed Chen Qiuling's hands, "Are you crazy?" He then shoved Chen Qiuling away, and she stumbled back two steps before Bai Dalin said, "You don't care about my reputation, but I do? I married you right after Jiang Wanyin died, and I even abandoned my own child to raise your son. What more do you want from me?"
"Wasn't it you who seduced me?" Chen Qiuling shouted, startling Bai Dalin who rushed over and covered Chen Qiuling's mouth. "Are you crazy? When did I seduce you? How can you say such a thing?" You're saying all sorts of nonsense. What if someone hears you?
"It's not that I don't want to give you money!" Bai Dalin covered Chen Qiuling's mouth, and Chen Qiuling fell completely silent. Her eyes, looking at Bai Dalin innocently like a fawn, softened instantly. Bai Dalin sighed and said, "I just gave you two hundred silver notes not long ago. You still have quite a bit of loose silver on hand. I'll buy the groceries, I'll buy the clothes. You've been staying home the whole time. Where did the money go? Did you give it to your family again? Qiuling, you're married to me now, you're part of the Bai family. Can't you think more about our little family? Don't give everything to your family!"
"I didn't!" Chen Qiuling said in a muffled voice, then pulled away from Bai Dalin's hand, walked to the pile of things where her box was, picked up her box, and said, "Don't wrong me, I've kept the money you gave me!"
Seeing that Chen Qiuling kept denying it, Bai Dalin was greatly disappointed. Where had the innocent Qiuling gone? How had she learned to lie? So, Bai Dalin said wearily, "See for yourself, see if I've wronged you!"
Chen Qiuling glanced at him suspiciously, then opened the box, saying as she did so, "I really didn't spend any money, you can't say that to me!" But once she opened it, Chen Qiuling was stunned, staring blankly at the box, "Where's the money?"
Bai Dalin said irritably, "I also want to ask you, where's the money? Where did the money go? Qiuling, do you know how long two hundred taels of silver can last? It's enough for us to live on for ten years. You can't keep doing this. I'm unemployed now. If you keep doing this, we'll run out of money!" Who can afford to spend two hundred taels of silver a month? They're not exactly rich people.
"I really didn't!" Chen Qiuling was at a loss for words, clutching the box and nearly frantic with worry. But as she spoke, a sudden thought flashed through her mind, "Could it be that little bitch Bai Nuo took our money? I'll go find her and get it back!"
"Can't you stop embarrassing yourself?" Bai Dalin pulled Chen Qiuling back. "Don't you think we've embarrassed ourselves enough today? Bai Nuo didn't take yours or mine. I was watching when Bai Nuo opened the box, and there was indeed only thirty taels of silver inside."
