Bai Nuo's face immediately turned cold, and he shouted, "Who are you? How did you get on my carriage!" Then he quickly walked over.
Jiang San Niang and Jiang Qiao'er quickly ran up as well.
Lu Ying stood frozen in the carriage. He had expected the carriage owner to return soon, but he hadn't expected it to be so quick, and he certainly hadn't expected the carriage owner to be so close.
"It's you? What? You've switched to stealing carriages now?" Bai Nuo approached and realized that the carriage thief was none other than Lu Ying, whom she had met once or twice before. "Where's your second master? Isn't he with you? Did he go to keep watch for you?"
"Don't drag our Second Master into this! I was the one driving your carriage, not our Second Master!" Lu Ying snapped out of her daze and immediately retorted.
"Very good, it's good that you admit it!" Bai Nuo nodded, quite satisfied, then shouted, "Get down here, or I'll report you to the authorities!"
Now that the owner had returned, Lu Ying naturally couldn't stubbornly stay in the car any longer. She jumped down, stood to the side, and stared at the shops in front of her with a frank and upright expression—or rather, to hide her embarrassment.
"Make way, we're leaving!" Bai Nuo sneered when she saw him standing there like a block of wood. She gestured for Jiang San Niang to get in the car, and she would take the two of them back.
Seeing Bai Nuo's reaction, Jiang San Niang and Jiang Qiao'er felt relieved. They lifted their skirts and got into the carriage. After lifting the curtain, they both screamed at the same time and jumped off the carriage!
"What's wrong?" Bai Nuo turned around and saw Jiang San Niang jumping down. She couldn't help but ask, "What happened?"
Jiang San Niang, still shaken, patted her chest and, seeing everyone around them staring, whispered, "There's a man in the car... there's a man in the car!"
"What?" Bai Nuo raised her voice, then turned around and lifted the carriage curtain, only to see a man half-leaning and half-lying inside—who else could it be but Hu Mingmei?
Hu Mingmei's clothes had already been put back on when Bai Nuo arrived, but he had just recovered from an illness and was feeling weak all over. He couldn't do it even if he thought of it, so he could only lazily look up and see that it was a village girl. So he said, "Miss, can you help me?"
Hu Mingmei's tone was neither pleading nor polite, and even had a hint of arrogance, but Bai Nuo inexplicably lowered the carriage curtain and sat back on the carriage shaft.
Bai Nuo found an explanation for her actions—she helped Hu Mingmei because he looked like he was about to die, and besides, he was so handsome, it would be a pity if he died. Yes, it was because he was handsome!
"You sit inside!" Bai Nuo said to Lu Ying, and then let Jiang San Niang and the other woman sit with her on the carriage shaft.
There are two men in the carriage, and Jiang Sanniang is a woman. In particular, Jiang Sanniang is engaged, so she needs to avoid suspicion even more.
After they were all seated, Bai Nuo slowly drove the carriage toward San Niang's Cloth Shop. The black horse didn't neigh at all, which annoyed Lu Ying.
"We've arrived, get out of the carriage!" Bai Nuo stopped the carriage in front of San Niang's Cloth Shop. Jiang San Niang and Jiang Qiao'er got out of the carriage, and Bai Nuo jumped down as well before speaking into the carriage.
The carriage curtain was slowly lifted, and Lu Ying first peeked out, then helped Hu Mingmei out. When getting out of the carriage, Lu Ying got out first, and then Hu Mingmei put her hand in Lu Ying's hand, and was half-supported and half-carried down.
Hu Mingmei was extremely weak, and Bai Nuo watched from the side with her brows furrowed the entire time.
What kind of man is this, so weak?
The first time I saw Hu Mingmei, he was having a relapse of his illness; the second time I saw him, he was drowning; the third time I saw him, he was in the same state again.
What use is a man who can drown while catching a fish in a field that's ankle-deep?
"What do we do now?" Jiang San Niang was extremely anxious as she watched from the side. How did two men suddenly appear out of nowhere? What should they do?
"Let's go inside first! Let's ignore them," Bai Nuo said softly. After Lu Ying and Hu Mingmei came down, she simply helped Hu Mingmei stand to the side and remained very quiet. Bai Nuo had no choice but to say to Jiang San Niang.
After Jiang San Niang went inside, Bai Nuo said to the two of them, "Now that I've arrived, you can ride in the carriage. Do whatever you want, go wherever you want. I won't keep you company any longer. Do as you please."
"Girl, please help me!" Bai Nuo turned to leave, but Hu Mingmei grabbed half of Bai Nuo's sleeve. Bai Nuo turned around and immediately became furious, whispering, "Let go!"
“I have nowhere else to go, and you’re the only person I know here!” Hu Mingmei said in a low voice.
"Let's go to the inn!" Bai Nuo said through gritted teeth. "Don't you have someone to take care of you? Are you going to starve to death?"
"I'm out of money!" Who would have thought that this was the first thing Hu Mingmei said.
Lu Ying looked at Hu Mingmei with some surprise, but Bai Nuo's attention was entirely focused on Hu Mingmei's hands, so she didn't notice.
“Then let’s sleep in a dilapidated temple. There’s a dilapidated temple about two miles to the left from here.” Bai Nuo pointed in a direction with her other free hand to Hu Mingmei, then forcefully shook him off. “Let go.”
Hu Mingmei gave a bitter smile, lowered his eyes, and did not try to pull Bai Nuo back.
Bai Nuo pretended not to see anything, got into the carriage, and drove the black horse towards the vegetable market ahead. She still needed to buy groceries to cook the dishes that A Yu had specifically requested.
Watching the carriage gradually disappear into the distance, Hu Mingmei said calmly, "Let's go, let's follow them!"
"Second Master..." Lu Ying wanted to say something, but seeing Hu Mingmei's resolute expression, she dared not say anything and could only help Hu Mingmei walk behind the carriage.
