Chapter 89 Alright, the girl's innocence is gone!

"Sigh!" After dealing with A-Yu and sending him to Aunt Liu, Bai Nuo went back to her room to take care of her bucket of river clams. She had been unlucky last night because Hu Mingmei had followed her all night. After Hu Mingmei went back to sleep, she didn't even dare to open the front door. She had to climb over the wall to get the river clams, just like a thief.

Fortunately, it wasn't daytime, so no one came to take hers. Otherwise, even losing just one would have been heartbreaking for Bai Nuo. Even if these clams couldn't produce pearls, they could still be eaten for a treat. If they were gone just like that, she would be devastated.

Back in the room, I checked on the river mussels. They were all blowing bubbles, and the whole bucket was filled with yellow, muddy water.

When Bai Nuo put the mussels in the water to keep them alive, he added salt. After several hours, Bai Nuo felt that the mussels had purged all the mud and sand from their bellies, so he decided to kill the mussels and take the pearls.

But just as she was about to get to work, she discovered that she hadn't brought any tools with her, so she had to go out to get them. When she came back with a hammer, nails, and a plate, she ran into Hu Mingmei.

Hu Mingmei, dressed in a silver-white robe, stood quietly in front of her door, watching her. A gentle breeze blew, ruffling his hair and robes. His face was resolute, and his eyes were deep and unfathomable.

It's like a painting.

Bai Nuo's heart skipped a beat.

Logically speaking, people like Hu Mingmei, who suffer from serious illnesses for many years, are usually quite depressed. Because of the torment of illness, people's mentality will change over time, and even the most resolute man may not be able to withstand it.

But she had seen Hu Mingmei several times, and each time he had an attack, he looked so miserable, as if he wanted to die. But after Hu Mingmei recovered, he was like a normal person again.

Hu Mingmei seemed completely unaffected. You could tell from his eyes that he showed no signs of fatigue or dejection, but rather a sense of unwavering resolve.

That's really strange.

Hu Mingmei's eyes just happened to be in Bai Nuo's vision, making Bai Nuo's heart almost jump out of her chest. However, Bai Nuo only glanced at her a few times before calming down.

The man is as handsome as a painting, but unfortunately he's not hers.

The man was as handsome as a painting, but unfortunately, he wasn't a good match for her.

Handsome men are like paintings; looking at them too much can lead to trouble, so it's best to avoid it.

Thinking about it this way, Bai Nuo calmed down, picked up the things and walked over, casually asking, "Are you feeling better?"

Hu Mingmei walked sideways to Bai Nuo's side, nodded silently, and then asked, "How is your brother?" Then, she coughed slightly, somewhat awkwardly, "I heard everything from Lu Ying!"

"It's nothing!" Bai Nuo said casually. "Kids will be kids, roughhousing is normal. A little slap makes them stronger." Bai Nuo turned her head to look at Hu Mingmei. Hu Mingmei was much taller than her; she only reached his shoulder. When she looked up, she saw Hu Mingmei's prominent Adam's apple, his strong and smooth jawline, his thin lips pressed into a line. Because of his long-term illness, his lips weren't as rosy as normal people's. His straight nose... really! Bai Nuo cursed herself inwardly. She was so pathetic; she couldn't even stand looking at him like that.

"What are you doing with these things?" Hu Mingmei asked, looking down. As he looked down, he met Bai Nuo's eyes and saw that Bai Nuo was also looking at him, and his image was reflected in her eyes.

She's looking at him!

He was looking at her too!

Both of them became somewhat awkward because of that brief eye contact.

The two hurriedly averted their gaze.

Bai Nuo coughed lightly, trying to make her voice sound natural, and said softly, "Is there something you need to do?"

Something on your plate? What is it? What do you need these things for? Are you dealing with that strange bucket of stuff of yours?

Hu Mingmei had a lot of questions he wanted to ask, but in front of Bai Nuo, he couldn't ask any of them.

"Do you need my help?" Hu Mingmei asked softly, concealing the slight awkwardness in her voice.

Both of them were conflicted individuals who never considered that looking directly into the eyes of someone of the opposite sex would make them uncomfortable.

Perhaps it was because she was more beautiful than any other woman he had ever seen.

Perhaps it was because he was more handsome than any other man she had ever seen.

"No need!" Bai Nuo suddenly became fully aware of her secret. "I can manage on my own. Besides, these are all girly things. It wouldn't be very convenient if you had me here!"

Beauty can be a dangerous thing; she almost lost her soul.

If she loses her career as well, she won't even have the money to buy a rope to hang herself.

"Oh!" Hu Mingmei responded casually, indicating that she understood. The two of them had already arrived at Bai Nuo's door. Hu Mingmei said, "Then never mind, you go ahead with your work. I just wanted to ask how your brother is. It's good that he's alright!"

"Thank you!" Bai Nuo said gently. "With Lu Ying around, he's doing very well. Also, I should tell you that Bai Yu has been pestering Lu Ying to teach him martial arts recently."

"Oh, it's nothing. Lu Ying is just idling around anyway, so it's good to have someone to teach her," Hu Mingmei said casually.

Neither of them knew what to say, so they just stood there at the door. Bai Nuo couldn't take it anymore and said, "Then I'll go in. You should get some rest."

Without waiting for Hu Mingmei to say anything, he turned around and went into the room, slamming the door shut.
