Bai Nuo nodded without speaking. She still harbored resentment towards Aunt Liu, but the old woman said it was alright, and there was no one to replace Aunt Liu right now. Bai Nuo was even more worried that the next one they found would be worse than the current one, so she temporarily suppressed her thoughts about not wanting Aunt Liu.
"Take all these things!" The old woman smiled at Bai Nuo. "These old bones of mine can't help you much anymore, but this is the only way I can keep myself moving. Take them all. If it's not enough, just tell me and I'll get you some more!"
"Grandma, you could have asked Aunt Liu to help!" Bai Nuo pouted and took the ropes. These ropes weren't completely finished; they were only a semi-finished product. Bai Nuo still had to add pearls herself. But even though it was only a semi-finished product, she put a lot of effort into it.
Exquisite workmanship
"She's such a big spender, how could she possibly do this? Alright, you two don't need to stay here watching over me anymore, go and do your own things, I'm going to take a nap!" the old woman said with a faint smile, waving her hand to shoo them away.
Seeing the old woman's tired expression, Bai Nuo and Bai Yu didn't dare to bother her any longer. After carrying her to bed, the two siblings quietly slipped away.
"Have you finished writing your characters?" Bai Nuo asked as she walked side by side with Bai Yu, suddenly realizing that she hadn't checked on Bai Yu's studies at all.
"Even though you're not going to school anymore, you still need to keep practicing your calligraphy!" Bai Nuo said calmly.
Bai Yu nodded. "I've finished writing today's reading." Then he added, "I can help you today!"
Bai Nuo didn't stop Bai Yu from not doing his work. Bai Yu said he had finished writing, so she believed him. She could just check Bai Yu's homework in the evening.
No matter how much Bai Yu attends class, he still has to help with chores at home. Bai Nuo doesn't want a good child to turn into a bookworm who only knows how to study but doesn't know anything about farming or doing housework.
The two siblings went into Bai Nuo's room at the same time. Bai Nuo closed the door and started busying herself inside.
It wasn't until dark that the old woman pushed her wheelchair over to call them for dinner, and only then did the two of them come out of the room.
When Bai Nuo came out, her eyes were blurry and her fingers were trembling. When she left the room, she had only one feeling: she had finally come back to life.
She felt her hands were about to break if she stayed any longer.
The two siblings shakily washed their hands. Bai Nuo looked at Bai Yu, who could barely stand, and felt a pang of pity. "Never mind, you should go to sleep later. You don't need to help anymore. Before you go to sleep, take your homework to my room for me to check!"
"But there's still so much!" Aunt Liu was in the main room, so Bai Yu couldn't speak loudly. He leaned against Bai Nuo and said in a low voice, "You can't handle it all by yourself!"
"No rush, it's only a short while. I need to sleep anyway!" Bai Nuo said calmly, drying her hands and walking into the main room to wait for dinner.
After dinner, Bai Nuo indeed sent Bai Yu back home, and then shut herself in her room until the moon was high in the sky before collapsing onto the bed and falling into a deep sleep.
After another two or three days of busy work, Bai Nuo finally finished preparing all the pearls and filled a basket to the brim.
Jewelry can't be put in a basket, otherwise it would look too cheap. A couple of days ago, Bai Nuo had the carpenter make a lot of small boxes, but they're still in the store and haven't been brought back yet, so now they can only be put in a basket.
Early that morning, at the crack of dawn, Bai Nuo got up and rode his black horse toward the town. Inside the carriage was a maid and a special guest—a pearl bracelet!
Upon arriving in town, the entire town was quiet, shrouded in a hazy mist, with no sound of people and no sight of anyone.
The sound of the black horse's hooves clattering on the stone slabs was exceptionally clear and crisp!
Bai Nuo drove the black horse all the way to the backyard of his shop before saying to it, "Wait here, I'll take you home when it gets dark!"
The dark horse's response to her was a snort.
Bai Nuo smiled, reached into the carriage, took out the pearl, and went into the first floor from the back.
The room was very dark. After Bai Nuo lit the candles, she opened the window, took out all the small boxes and put them on the table. She then sat down and put the pearl bracelets and necklaces into the boxes according to their different sizes.
There were a few samples on the tray, which were to be placed on the table for people to choose from; the rest were put in the drawer.
It took Bai Nuo half an hour to pack all the pearls. By then, it was already broad daylight, and people could be heard outside.
People were selling breakfast, eating breakfast, buying vegetables, and selling vegetables; the whole street was starting to come alive.
Bai Nuo put her things away, locked the door, went out and bought three breakfasts before arriving at San Niang's Cloth Shop.
"Oh my, it's been a long time! You finally decided to come out?" When Bai Nuo arrived, San Niang's Cloth Shop was not yet open. She didn't want Bai Nuo to wait, so she knocked on the door. After knocking for a while, she finally heard some movement from inside.
After waiting a while, the door opened from the inside, and Jiang San Niang came to open it.
As soon as Jiang San Niang saw Bai Nuo, she started teasing him.
Bai Nuoyang waved the breakfast in her hand, "I came to have breakfast with you guys, do you want some?"
"Eat!" Jiang Sanniang said with a smile. "Perfect, saves me the trouble of going out to buy it." After not seeing Jiang Sanniang for a few days, her complexion was much rosier. Perhaps it was because she got along well with Yu Ziqing. Jiang Sanniang's complexion was much better than before, and she had a smile on her face. She seemed to have shed the cold and hard temperament of a strong woman and become a quiet young girl.
