Bai Nuo really wanted to say that she wasn't a family member, but she couldn't stand the vendor's fierce look, so she retorted, "What do you mean she can't walk steadily? If you hadn't pushed her, she wouldn't have fallen. And you too, there are already so many people today, is it necessary to change buses here?"
"Why say so much? Lose money!" Seeing that Bai Nuo looked like a child, the shopkeeper was no longer afraid of Bai Nuo and started cursing at him.
Bai Nuo was originally holding hands with Hu Mingmei, but when she went to help the old lady, they let go of each other's hands. Seeing how fierce the vendor was, Hu Mingmei also came up to help the old lady, while giving the vendor a cold look.
"I'll pay! What's the big deal?" Bai Nuo glanced at the vegetables on the ground. There weren't many, just four or five bunches. She immediately laughed. "I thought you had a lot more. Why are you being so fierce? Here, take it, keep the change!" Bai Nuo threw a dozen or so copper coins to the vendor, then squatted down and put all the vegetables into her basket.
The vegetables were perfectly fine, not rotten at all. The vendor probably thought the old lady was too old and had difficulty getting around, so he tried to scam her.
"Thank you so much!" The old man breathed a sigh of relief and kept thanking Hu Mingmei and Bai Nuo.
"Grandma, where do you live? Shall I take you home?" Bai Nuo looked at the old woman, who resembled her own grandmother. She hadn't originally intended to meddle, but because of this, Bai Nuo's heart softened.
"Are you still able to walk? We'll take you home!"
"My home is over there!" The old woman's legs were indeed a bit weak. She originally wanted to say that she could walk, but her feet hurt so much that she couldn't stand it, and there were a lot of people on the street, so she took one look and backed down.
Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei immediately helped the old man walk in the direction he pointed.
"Grandma, did you come out alone? Aren't your son and daughter-in-law with you?" Reaching the end of the alley, where the crowd had thinned out, Bai Nuo couldn't help but ask.
For elderly people like this, who are old and have physical limitations, it's best not to go out alone.
"I have three sons!" the old man said with a smile, "but none of them are married. If they were, their granddaughters would be as old as you!"
Well, he has three sons, but none of them are married, so there are no daughters-in-law to accompany him when he goes out.
"They're all so busy, they all have to work. They go out during the day and don't come back until night, so I have to come out by myself!" the old woman complained. "If I waited for them to take care of me, I would starve to death!"
All right!
Bai Nuo listened silently, not daring to make a sound. It's best not to speak when someone is scolding your son.
"We're here! This is my home!" Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei followed the directions given by the old woman and soon arrived at the house she had mentioned.
Bai Nuo looked up and was even more disappointed in the old woman's son. The house looked very nice. The person who could build such a house, and who lived in the town, was not poor. Why didn't he leave one of his sons behind to take care of his old mother?
Hu Mingmei had Bai Nuo help the old man while he took the old man's keys and went up to open the door.
Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei helped the woman into the house. Bai Nuo left some vegetables and meat before saying goodbye to the old woman, "Grandma, it's getting late, I'll head back now!"
"Please stay a little longer, my son will be back soon. I want them to thank you properly. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be able to come back today!" The old man held Bai Nuo's hand, not wanting Bai Nuo to leave.
Bai Nuo smiled and said, "No need to thank me, really, it was just a small favor. It's getting late, we all have to go back and cook, so we won't stay any longer. I'll come see you another day!" The old woman thanked Bai Nuo, but Bai Nuo was actually quite guilty. If she hadn't thought about it for a moment, this kind of thing probably wouldn't have happened.
While talking to the old man, Bai Nuo pulled his hand away from the old man's, took two steps back, and then said with a smile, "I'm going back first!" Then he pulled Hu Mingmei out.
"What are you going to do for dinner?" Bai Nuo asked Hu Mingmei. Lu Ying and Xia Donglai already knew that they were going back with her. Before leaving get off work, they told Lu Ying to pack her things. Now they should be packing, otherwise there might be no one to cook for Hu Mingmei.
The Fulai Inn, such a large place, only housed three people.
"Let's eat out!" Hu Mingmei said.
"Let's go, I'll go make it for you and then I'll go back!" Bai Nuo glanced around. It was almost dark and there were so many people. Suddenly, Bai Nuo felt reluctant to let Hu Mingmei eat out alone.
It's so lively outside, and he's such a quiet person, eating alone. He must be so lonely!
"Um....."
Since Hu Mingmei was eating alone, Bai Nuo didn't cook many dishes, just two dishes and a soup. After watching Hu Mingmei finish eating, Bai Nuo helped clean up before taking Lu Ying and Xia Donglai back to her own home.
When they got home, they explained to Grandma that the two of them would be staying at their house for a while, and Grandma went with Bai Nuo.
"The old man's legs need a massage, otherwise they will atrophy!" After dinner, when Bai Nuo was arranging a room for Xia Donglai, Xia Donglai suddenly said this.
"Huh?" Bai Nuo immediately snapped out of her daze, looking at Xia Donglai in disbelief. "No way?"
“It’s definitely necessary!” Lu Ying nodded and said, “Otherwise, it won’t be good for the old man to walk even after his legs heal!” Both of them were martial artists and had better eyesight than ordinary people, which is why Xia Donglai said that. He only remembered that matter after thinking about it for a while.
