"The young master seems to be someone who can't bear to see his daughter suffer. He also knows that she has been wronged a lot over there. Madam, if you continue like this, the young master will also have a problem with you!"
Upon hearing this, the old woman's heart skipped a beat, and she fell silent.
Seeing her like this, Aunt Liu took a blanket from the bed and placed it on her knees to cover her. After lighting the charcoal fire, she opened the window and went out.
"Auntie, you've come at the right time!" Bai Nuo called out to Aunt Liu as she came out of the yard. "Take these two pig trotters and the five catties of meat over there. I won't go over there!"
"Oh!" Aunt Liu quickly took the pig's trotters and meat from Bai Nuo's hands. She originally wanted to say a few words to defend her grandmother, but seeing Bai Nuo's indifferent expression, she didn't dare to say anything!
Aunt Liu carried the things over to Chen Qiuling's side. Chen Qiuling was still half-dead. When she saw Aunt Liu, she just nodded. Aunt Liu sighed, turned around and went into the kitchen to stew pig's trotters for Chen Qiuling.
Regardless of what kind of person Chen Qiuling is normally, she is really unlucky right now.
In autumn, it gets dark early, especially in late autumn. It's only the time to get off work, but the sky is already completely dark, gloomy, and looks like it's about to snow.
In this different time and space, the snow comes exceptionally early.
Seeing that it was getting dark and Hu Mingmei and Long Er had not returned, Bai Nuo became worried and took a lantern to go look for them.
When they arrived at the village entrance, Hu Mingmei and Long Yi had just finished packing up and were preparing to go back. Seeing her coming with a lantern, Hu Mingmei frowned and said, "Why did you come out?"
"I've been waiting for you!" Bai Nuotiti held up the lantern in her hand, smiling as she looked at them. "Are you all sold out?"
As Long Er washed the pork cleaver in his hands, he said with a smile, "It's all sold out. Pork sells really well here. There wasn't even a couple of pieces of fat left." That was over four hundred catties of pork, and it was like a robbery.
“This is today’s money!” Hu Mingmei pointed to the half-full bag of copper coins next to him.
"So much?" Bai Nuo was startled. It was only five or six taels of silver, how did it turn into so many copper coins?
Long Er chuckled from the side, "Everyone here gives us copper coins. I don't know if they're afraid we won't give them change or what!"
"That's great! Aunt Liu doesn't need to use silver anymore when buying groceries; she can just use copper coins!"
"Dog meat rolls three times, even immortals can't stand firm!" As the group was talking, a chant suddenly came from the village entrance, growing closer and closer, but the lyrics were only one line.
Long Er laughed, "Why does this person only sing one line? What about the rest of the lyrics?"
As they were talking, the singer arrived in front of them. Upon seeing the butcher's knife, he immediately started singing again, "Even a god can't stand firm when pork is rolled three times!"
The singer was around sixty years old, dressed in rags, wearing a pair of worn-out shoes, his toes even sticking out of the shoes. He was just missing a fan; he looked just like Ji Gong (a legendary monk).
"Old man, didn't you just say it was dog meat? How did it turn into pork?" Long Er asked with a smile.
"You don't understand!" the old man said, feigning profundity. "Anything that's meat makes people's mouths water."
"What a pity!" Long Er said, "We've sold out of meat here, there's no meat for you to eat!"
As he spoke, Long Er had already packed everything. Seeing that Bai Nuo and Hu Mingmei were waiting for him, he immediately said, "Young master and young lady, I'm ready. Let's go back!"
Bai Nuo nodded.
To their surprise, the old man followed them.
Bai Nuo asked in confusion, "Old man, why are you following me?"
The old man chuckled, "You pork sellers must have meat at home, why don't you treat me to a meal? I haven't had meat in ages, and I'm really craving it."
Bai Nuo frowned, and just as she was about to say something, Hu Mingmei nodded before she could speak, "Okay, come with us!"
The old man chuckled, "In that case, thank you very much!"
Bai Nuo looked at Hu Mingmei with a puzzled expression. Hu Mingmei shook his head at her without saying anything.
Bai Nuo had no choice but to suppress her anger and take the old man home.
Once home, Bai Nuo handed the old man over to Jiang San Niang for care, then pulled Hu Mingmei into the kitchen. "Who is that old man? Why did you let him into our house?" If you just want to feed him, why not just give him some food?
Bai Nuo is very uncomfortable with strangers coming to her home; she always feels uneasy about it.
“He’s the cook I told you about!” Hu Mingmei said softly. “I wrote him a letter, but I didn’t expect him to be here. He probably didn’t receive the letter!”
"Then how did he get here?" Bai Nuo asked curiously. "And why does the cook look like this?" Aren't cooks usually fat and big-eared? This old man looks like a madman.
“He likes to travel around!” Hu Mingmei said, puzzled. “Maybe it’s fate. Back in the capital, he was known as the eccentric chef.”
Hu Mingmei didn't know what to say to this old man.
"Really?" Bai Nuo said, "Then is what he makes even edible?"
She was hoping someone would come along to support Duobaoge, so that they wouldn't end up ruining the brand or causing someone to die from poisoning!
Hu Mingmei shook his head. "Calling him a strange chef doesn't mean his food is poisonous. On the contrary, his food is very delicious. The reason he's strange is that he only makes ten portions of each dish, and he won't make it on the wrong day, at the wrong time, or when he's in a bad mood, or when he's in a good mood."
