“Since that’s the case…” The foreman’s thick eyebrows never relaxed. He just felt that something was wrong, but he couldn’t do anything about what Bai Dalin said, so he could only say, “Then you should hurry up. Don’t work today. Go back and find that bead as soon as possible.”
Do you not want him to work anymore?
Bai Dalin was shocked. What did the foreman mean? Did he mean he didn't want him anymore?
"Foreman..." Bai Dalin panicked a little, "I can usually find him after work, but... everyone is quite busy, and we can't manage without one person. It's not even time to get off work yet... wouldn't it be bad if I left so early?"
Seeing Bai Dalin in a panic, the foreman said calmly, "Dalin, don't misunderstand. I didn't mean to stop you from working. It's just that the bead is much more important than our current project schedule. Go home and find it first. I'll pay you for today's work."
Since the foreman had said so, Bai Dalin had no choice but to agree, no matter how unwilling he was.
After taking his tools, Bai Dalin left the magistrate's office, but he didn't know where to go. If he went home, he was afraid Chen Qiuling would overthink things, but if he didn't go home, he had nowhere to go.
Standing on the street, Bai Dalin was truly bewildered. He wandered aimlessly until he came to his senses and found himself at his own doorstep.
Seeing his own house with its gate tightly shut, Bai Dalin turned around and walked towards Bai Nuo's house.
At this moment, Grandma was lying on the bed, fast asleep, while Ayu was sitting on the bed, bored and unable to do anything. However, Ayu dared not fall asleep, fearing that Grandma might need to find him but he would not know if he was asleep.
Bai Dalin pushed the door open and came in at that moment.
To be honest, ever since Jiang Wanyin passed away and his grandmother moved in with the two children, Bai Dalin has rarely set foot here. Firstly, he doesn't care how his old mother and the two children he doesn't love are doing. Secondly, he feels that now that he has money and a new house, why should he keep going back to a dilapidated place? Nostalgia? A rough man like Bai Dalin doesn't even know what nostalgia is.
In Bai Dalin's memory, the old house had always been dirty and messy, but he was quite surprised when he came in today.
The previous filth and disorder are gone. Last time I came, there were three beds here, making it difficult to even turn around. But now, the three beds have become two, and the green stains on the table and a few stools and chairs haven't completely faded.
He had seen the new kitchen that the neighbor had built every day as he walked in and out, but he never expected it to be cleaned up like this.
They seem to be doing better without him, but when they're still with him, they always have a long face.
"What are you doing here?" When A-Yu, who was sitting on the bed, heard the noise and looked down, he saw Bai Dalin come in. He immediately became alert, grabbed the ladder, lowered it, and then climbed down himself.
"Get out! You're not welcome here! Get out!" A-Yu looked at him coldly, her face tense, on high alert.
Ah Yu still can't forget how Bai Dalin got into the old lady's room to look for things, and how Bai Dalin pushed the old lady down and injured her.
"You little brat!" Bai Dalin was immediately annoyed when he saw Bai Yu looking at him like a little leopard. "How dare you talk to me like that? Who are you talking to? I'm your father!"
"I don't have a father like you!" A-Yu retorted coldly. He had seen how other fathers treated their children, and they were all gentle and loving. Other children could ride on their fathers' shoulders like horses. But Bai Dalin always had a cold face towards him, or he would scold him. So Bai Dalin was not his father, and he did not acknowledge him!
"I'm not your son. Your son lives next door. Get out!"
"You little brat! You've gone too far!" Bai Dalin was furious, raising his hand high. "If I'm not your father, who is? You were born of me!"
Ultimately, Bai Dalin still cared about his son Bai Yu to some extent. He was already in his thirties, and Chen Zhi wasn't his son. Although Chen Qiuling was pregnant, it was unknown whether the baby would be a boy or a girl. If it was a boy, Bai Dalin wouldn't care about Bai Yu at all. If it was a girl, then Bai Dalin would only have Bai Yu as his son.
But Bai Dalin doesn't know anything about this yet, and Chen Qiuling hasn't given birth, has she? So Bai Dalin still cares about Bai Yu a little. Seeing Bai Yu's dismissive attitude, Bai Dalin is truly furious.
Already annoyed enough, seeing Bai Yu like this, Bai Dalin subconsciously wanted to slap Bai Yu.
But Bai Yu just stood there, not flinching at all, staring straight at him, looking exactly like him. Bai Dalin was so angry he laughed.
He had originally intended to beat Bai Yu, but instead placed his raised hand on Bai Yu's face and coaxed him softly, "Ah Yu, I'm your father. I didn't mean anything by it, I just wanted to come and see you."
In Bai Dalin's mind, Bai Nuo was not easy to fool, but A Yu was still a nine-year-old child who knew nothing. As long as he was nice, he could be easily coaxed back. What could a nine-year-old child do? Back when he was nine, he was still wearing open-crotch pants and catching fish everywhere.
Therefore, Bai Dalin believed that A Yu would be no exception. No matter how much A Yu used to look down on him, he was still just a child. A little coaxing, a few sweet words, and he could be easily tamed.
