"Alright then!" Princess Duan smiled. "I won't disturb your rest any longer. It's my first time visiting, so I don't know what to give you. I'll just give you this brocade pouch. You can open it after I leave." Princess Duan smiled playfully at Bai Nuo and slipped something into Bai Nuo's hand.
Then she stood up. Seeing that she had already stood up, Bai Nuo didn't care what Princess Duan had stuffed into her mouth anymore, and stood up as well.
"This princess will take her leave now," Princess Duan said with a smile, and walked towards the door.
Bai Nuo followed behind Princess Duan, saying, "This humble woman will see Princess Duan out!"
Princess Duan did not stop her and let her see her off. After she reached the gate, Princess Duan smiled and said, "Alright, you can go in now. You don't need to see me off. I have many people with me, so it's alright!"
"Yes," Bai Nuo bowed obediently and said respectfully, "Princess, please take care!"
"Go back!" Princess Duan smiled gently at her, then turned and got into the carriage.
Princess Duan's carriage started moving quickly. Bai Nuo didn't go in immediately, but stood at the door and waited until Princess Duan's carriage was out of sight before turning around and going back. "Let's go!"
Wang Mama stayed by Bai Nuo's side. She knew that Princess Cheng and Princess Duan had not only come to their house together, but had also returned separately. Wasn't Princess Duan being too high-profile? Wasn't she afraid that Princess Cheng would find out that she had come back?
"Is Granny Wang wondering why Princess Duan is so high-profile? Why did she not want anyone to know when she came, but left so ostentatiously through the main gate?" Bai Nuo asked Granny Wang as she walked back to her courtyard, voicing Granny Wang's doubts.
Wang Mama nodded honestly, "To be honest, young mistress, that's exactly what I think."
“Princess Duan did it on purpose!” Bai Nuo said calmly. “From today onwards, close the gate and say that I am ill and need to rest during my pregnancy. No matter who comes, I will not see them. If it is an outside matter, let Lu Ying handle it if possible. If it cannot be handled, you can bring it to me and the Second Master.”
Princess Duan's behavior was a blatant way of telling others that they had a good relationship with Prince Duan, and also a blatant way of telling Prince Cheng and Princess Cheng that the Hu family had already gotten on Prince Duan's side.
They hadn't done anything wrong, but Princess Duan had tricked them and offended Prince Cheng. Now, even if they weren't Prince Duan's people, Prince Cheng would consider them to be his people.
Wang Mama really wanted to ask Hu Mingmei, but seeing Bai Nuo's serious expression, she didn't dare to ask any more questions. She just thought that when the Second Master came back, the Young Madam would communicate with him, right?
Bai Nuo opened her palm, and the brocade pouch given to her by the Princess Consort of Duan was still lying quietly in her hand. The pouch was nothing special, just an ordinary brocade pouch. However, for some reason, Bai Nuo felt that the pouch was a little hot to the touch.
What will Prince Duan give them?
After returning to her room, Bai Nuo dismissed everyone. Wang Mama escorted her back to her room and then went to do the things she had been instructed to do before even entering the room herself. In the entire room, Bai Nuo sat alone in front of her dressing table, on which sat the brocade pouch given to her by the Princess Consort of Duan.
For some reason, Bai Nuo suddenly felt nervous looking at the brocade pouch. Her heart was pounding so hard that she could even hear her own heartbeat in the quiet room.
She picked up the brocade pouch, and when she tried to open it, she realized that her palms were sweaty.
Where did this tension come from? It's so strange. Bai Nuo stood up, wet a towel, and washed her face and hands. The cool well water finally calmed her agitated mood.
She then walked back to the dressing table, opened the brocade pouch, and found only a small, yellowed piece of paper inside, folded tiny. Bai Nuo poured it out and carefully opened it—she hadn't intended to be so careful, but the paper was so yellow and dry, clearly very old, that Bai Nuo was afraid of crushing it if she used too much force, so she dared not use any.
But after opening it, Bai Nuo suddenly looked up and saw an anxious, disbelieving expression in the mirror.
After reading the contents of the note, Bai Nuo suddenly grabbed it in her hand, but then immediately let go, carefully flattening it. Luckily, it hadn't torn. She had to tell Hu Mingmei about it right away!
Bai Nuo hadn't taken more than a few steps in the room when she stopped again. "Forget it, what if what's written here is fake? Wouldn't that just disappoint my husband for nothing? Let's show it to someone else first!"
With that thought in mind, Bai Nuo opened the door and headed in one direction.
That evening, Hu Mingmei returned home on time to have dinner with Bai Nuo. To Hu Mingmei's surprise, Dr. Sun was also there. "Dr. Sun? What brings you here?" Based on his understanding of Dr. Sun, Dr. Sun wasn't the type to enjoy eating with others. In all the years they'd been together, he'd never seen Dr. Sun eat with anyone else, nor with anyone else, including himself. Dr. Sun had always been a loner.
Hu Mingmei was quite surprised to see him here today.
"I've come to show you something; I've come to see you!" Doctor Sun said with a smile, his small eyes narrowing into slits, looking very excited.
"What did you discover?" Seeing his excitement, Hu Mingmei couldn't be too cold and asked politely, "Has your medical skills and Gu techniques broken through again?"
