Having come to visit so abruptly, and staying for an extended period, I felt it would be impolite not to pay my respects to Jiang San Niang, the elder of the family.
"Wait until you're out of confinement before you go!" Bai Nuo smiled, telling Jiang San Niang not to worry. "I don't have any elders left in my family, just my grandmother. There are only four of us. You've met my siblings and me. Besides my grandmother, there's also an aunt who takes care of her. My grandmother is old, and you know she had an accident a while ago. As Bai Nuo stood at the door, she heard Bai Yu's voice inside. Standing by the door, she saw the old woman holding Jiang Qiao'er's hand and saying, "Good child, settle down here!"
Jiang Qiao'er remained expressionless and showed no further reaction. She simply nodded at the old woman. Seeing her like this, the old woman felt sorry for her and hugged Jiang Qiao'er, but Jiang Qiao'er remained dazed.
Bai Nuo found this reaction quite strange. Why had Jiang Qiao'er become like this, not uttering a single word?
