Chen Zhi's wife's smile froze instantly. "Bai Nuo, how could you... how could you do this?" She has absolutely no manners!
Bai Nuo raised an eyebrow and gave a mocking smile. "Oh, so you really do know everything? It seems Chen Zhi told you everything. Then you should also know why we don't welcome you, ma'am. What are you standing there for?"
This was the first time the old lady and the others had seen Bai Nuo so angry. Aunt Liu was stunned for a moment, then came to her senses and said politely, "Please leave!"
She also wanted this daughter-in-law to leave. She's not even her own grandson, so why is she getting involved in this mess? And why is she bossing everyone around? Does she really think she's the mistress of the house?
Aunt Liu was very polite in words, but she was quite ruthless in her actions. She reached out and grabbed the woman's hand, leading her toward the door. Bai Nuo caught up and blocked their way.
"Girl..." Aunt Liu sensed something was wrong with Bai Nuo when she saw her like this, and called out with some concern.
Ignoring Aunt Liu, Bai Nuo stared at Chen Zhi's wife and asked, "Chen Zhi tells you everything, so did he tell you he's sick?"
Chen Zhi's wife stared at Bai Nuo and asked, "Is he sick? What's wrong with him?"
Bai Nuo chuckled, looking at Chen Zhi's wife's pretty face, "How long have you been married? Haven't you consummated your marriage yet?"
"How can you be so shameless, a young woman like you? Of course we consummated our marriage!" Chen Zhi's wife said through gritted teeth.
Bai Nuo had been watching her the whole time, and naturally saw the fleeting look of collapse on her face. Although that's what she said, Bai Nuo knew she was just putting on a brave face and lying. So he ignored her and figured that it was enough that she had said what she wanted to say.
"Let's go!" Seeing that Bai Nuo had nothing to say, Aunt Liu pulled her out. Chen Zhi's wife wanted to resist, but she couldn't. She could only curse as she was forced to leave.
"Nono, how can a young lady like you say such things?" The old woman looked at Bai Nuo disapprovingly. "Is this the kind of thing you should say? What if someone hears you?"
“Yes!” Bai Nuo sneered, “Fine, I’m shameless!”
With that, Bai Nuo ran off quickly.
"You..." The old woman choked, looking at Bai Nuo's retreating figure, then at Hu Mingmei with a puzzled expression, "What's wrong with her?"
Hu Mingmei gave a wry smile. "I had a fight with her!"
"You two had a fight?" the old woman asked incredulously. "What happened between you?"
Hu Mingmei shook her head, "It's alright, don't worry, I'll go check on her!"
“Go on, go on!” the old woman said. “Young man, speak properly, don’t be so impatient.”
Hu Mingmei nodded, took her leave, and went out.
Hu Mingmei went all the way to Bai Nuo's courtyard and knocked on Bai Nuo's door. Bai Nuo didn't open the door at all, so he had to call out, "Nuonuo, open the door, I have something to tell you. I didn't mean it that way, please don't be angry!"
Bai Nuo completely ignored him.
Hu Mingmei knew that Bai Nuo was in the room, so he could only stand at the door and wait for her.
After waiting for a long time, Bai Nuo still didn't open the door for him. Aunt Liu even came to check on him once. After she left, Hu Mingmei didn't want the old woman to worry, so he said, "Nuonuo, I'm going back now."
He said this, but received no response from Bai Nuo.
Hu Mingmei had no choice but to leave.
*
After being kicked out of the Bai family, Chen Zhi's wife, Hu Lingling, couldn't care less about being angry. Her mind was filled with Bai Nuo's words. She really hadn't consummated the marriage with Chen Zhi. They had been married for more than ten days, and Chen Zhi still hadn't touched her. She remembered that on their wedding night, Chen Zhi said he was too tired and went to sleep first. Even today, the two of them hadn't consummated the marriage. Although they slept in the same bed, nothing had happened.
She wasn't without other thoughts in her mind, but she comforted herself by saying that the two of them had only met a few times before their marriage, and perhaps she was still a bit unfamiliar to Chen Zhi, and he wasn't used to her yet.
But... she only realized today that it wasn't like that at all. What did Bai Nuo mean by that? Chen Zhi couldn't consummate the marriage because he was sick. What kind of sickness did he have?
Hu Lingling kept thinking about this problem, so she didn't care about the grievances she suffered at the Bai family's house. After leaving, she rushed home.
"You're back?"
Upon entering the house, Hu Lingling encountered Chen Qiuling, who was out for a stroll, in the yard. Hu Lingling was preoccupied with her own thoughts, and simply replied in a low voice, "Yes, Mother, I'm back." Then she headed straight for her own yard.
Watching her hurried departure, Chen Qiuling said unhappily to the maid beside her, "What's wrong with the young mistress? Where did she go today?"
At the end of October, Bai Dalin and his family moved again. Bai Dalin made full use of the windfall he had received, bought a house and a shop, and the whole family moved in happily. They also hired a lot of maids. After buying the house, Chen Zhi and Hu Lingling's marriage was also completed.
"I don't know!" the maid Chunhua replied respectfully. "I heard that the young mistress went out by herself today and didn't bring any maids with her."
Chen Qiuling touched her prominently protruding belly. Seeing this, the maid asked considerately, "Is Madam tired? Would you like to rest a little longer?"
Chen Qiuling shook her head, "No, let's walk around a bit more. The doctor said that walking around more will make it easier to give birth. Has the master returned yet?"
"The master is still inside the shop!"
"Let's go see the young master and young mistress. The young mistress just came back and probably hasn't eaten anything. Bring her that bowl of chicken soup from the kitchen."
