"Alright!" Li Jinyu laughed, "These few pairs will do! And a few necklaces too, I'll wear them in rotation!"
Bai Nuo nodded and packed up the items Li Jinyu had asked for. Li Jinyu casually tossed a pair of earrings to Cui'er, saying, "This is for you!"
"Thank you, Miss!" Cui'er was overjoyed to learn that Li Jinyu had also bought it for her; she had been eyeing it longingly for quite some time.
After receiving the money, Li Jinyu wasn't in a hurry to leave. She stood by the counter looking at each item one by one. Seeing that Li Jinyu liked them very much, Bai Nuo didn't take them back and let her look at them from the side.
"Shopkeeper, could you please give me a bracelet?"
Today must be Bai Nuo's lucky day, one customer after another comes in. Bai Nuo smiled and said, "Sit over there for a moment!"
After leading the guests to an empty table on the side, Bai Nuo turned around and took the trays from behind the counter. Hu Mingmei was also busy, making tea for the guests.
Observing people is a habit that Bai Nuo has always had. When she put the tray on the table, Bai Nuo habitually looked at the new guest who came in—about thirteen or fourteen years old. Her face was oval, and her features were still childish, but it was clear that she would definitely be a beauty when she grew up. Her black hair was combed into two flat buns, and her forehead, which was exposed between the strands of hair, was smooth and full.
The girl looked even more petite in her peach-colored, double-breasted ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress).
Bai Nuo frowned, feeling that something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
The girl was quick in choosing her items, soon selecting the bracelet she wanted and handing it to Bai Nuo. "Check, how much?"
Bai Nuo walked out from behind the counter with the packaging box in his hand. "Three taels of silver!"
The girl handed her the bracelet, saying, "Wrap it up!"
Bai Nuo shouldn't have said this, but she said it anyway, "Have you made your choice?"
The girl nodded.
Bai Nuo turned the bracelet over and over in front of the girl, smiling as she said, "Please check it. If there's no problem, I'll put it back together for you. We don't offer exchanges here!"
"You're not going to replace it even if there's a problem?" The girl frowned.
“If it’s not our problem, we won’t replace it!” Bai Nuo laughed.
"Alright, go ahead and pack it!" the girl said casually. "No problem."
After seeing the girl off, Li Jinyu walked over and asked curiously, "Why don't you ever tell me these things?"
Bai Nuo shook her head, "Because you're a regular customer, you know the rules!"
Li Jinyu, upon hearing this, indeed stopped asking questions.
**
After a while, Li Jinyu couldn't sit still anymore and insisted on going to see a play. Bai Nuo didn't have time to accompany her; there was still a pile of pearls to be processed in the shop. After seeing Li Jinyu off, Bai Nuo sat behind the counter and started processing pearls with Hu Mingmei.
After two customers arrived, the shop became unusually quiet. As Bai Nuo gradually became engrossed in the conversation, she was startled awake by a loud shout.
Looking up at the man and woman in front of her, Bai Nuo was still a little stunned.
Who is the manager here?
"It's me!" Bai Nuo quickly stepped forward, stood in front of the two, and asked in confusion, "Is there something you need?"
The man was tall and dark-skinned, and his clothes couldn't hide his muscles. Bai Nuo looked very petite next to him. The woman was about the same size as Sister Zhao. Both of them were around thirty years old and dressed simply.
"Are you the manager?" The woman looked Bai Nuo up and down. "Is there such a thing as a manager as young as you? Call your parents out here!"
Bai Nuo was petite, her features were not fully developed, and she still had a childlike appearance, so the woman instinctively suspected her.
"Second Master, come here for a moment!" Bai Nuo immediately called out her master.
Hu Mingmei stepped out from behind the counter, standing with his hands behind his back, his expression indifferent, exuding an air of "only to be admired from afar, not to be profaned." "What is it?"
The woman, who had initially been full of imposing aura, softened considerably upon seeing Hu Mingmei's demeanor. However, remembering why they were there, she became angry again, demanding, "Why are you selling things indiscriminately?"
"Selling random things?" Bai Nuo was shocked upon hearing this, disregarding the distrust of others, "Selling random things? You two have never been here before, have you?"
Bai Nuo meticulously recorded in a small notebook how many guests there were, who came, and how much they spent. Moreover, she had a photographic memory and had never seen these two people before.
“We haven’t been here!” the woman scoffed. “But our daughter has! She’s only a teenager, still a child. How could you sell her things?”
"What did you buy?" Hu Mingmei asked casually, pulling Bai Nuo aside. "When did you buy it? How much did it cost?"
"Just now!" the man said. Even though he wasn't yelling, Bai Nuo felt a sharp pain in her ears just hearing his voice.
They're talking way too loudly!
"I bought a bracelet!" The woman took out the bracelet, which was clearly the same one the little girl had bought. "We don't want it anymore, we want a refund!"
"I'm sorry!" Bai Nuo immediately understood what was going on. "I already told your girl that once something is sold, it can't be returned!"
So, they think their family is treating them like monkeys?
I just said there was no problem and I wouldn't return it, but then my parents came and started demanding a refund. What do they think this place is for?
