She was absolutely furious! Bai Nuo grabbed Bai Yu and left, not caring whether Zhang Wu would actually come or not. Bai Nuo didn't care about that anymore; all she wanted to do now was take her younger brother home!
What a terrible school!
Without any reasoning or investigation, they accused Bai Yu. Does a teacher like that deserve to be a teacher?
Seeing that Bai Nuo hurriedly pulled Bai Yu away, Lu Ying didn't stay there either, and followed behind Bai Nuo.
Bai family
"What are you doing here?" After washing the clothes, Aunt Liu was about to do something else when she saw Hu Mingmei wandering around, seemingly unable to stop. She immediately said, "The sun is getting stronger now. Don't wander around here. Can't you see that our old lady doesn't even go out in the sun anymore?"
"I wanted to see the layout of this house and where everyone lives!" Hu Mingmei said with a smile. "Although there are only a few people here, and Miss Bai and Young Master Bai are still children, Miss Bai is already a young lady. If I, an outsider, were to walk into the wrong house and offend Miss Bai, it would be bad!"
"Oh, I see!" Aunt Liu glanced at Hu Mingmei. "You should have said so earlier. I've been here for quite a while now, and I know this place very well. Let me tell you, this place isn't very big; it only has a few rooms."
Hu Mingmei listened quietly, appearing to be humbly accepting instruction.
"Here, there's just one main room, one kitchen, one outhouse, one courtyard, and a few other rooms. The two rooms on the far east side are for our young lady and our old lady. I share a room with the old lady, and the room next to yours and the other young man's is for our young master!"
"Oh! I see. That explains why I didn't see the old lady next door this morning. She lives on the east side!" Hu Mingmei said with a sudden realization.
"Yes!" Aunt Liu laughed. "But it's not surprising that you didn't see the old lady. She has difficulty moving around. Apart from sunbathing every day and going out for a walk in the evening, she stays in her room the whole time. When our old lady was sunbathing, you hadn't gotten up yet. By the time you got up, our old lady had already gone back to her room. How could you have seen her?"
"That's right!" Hu Mingmei nodded in agreement. "Thank you! I know which places I can and can't go now. I'll go back to my room!"
"Okay!" Aunt Liu smiled as she watched Hu Mingmei walk towards her room. She was extremely satisfied with this young master who had come to visit. Not only was he very handsome, but he was also very polite. Even she, a servant, was treated with respect and had no arrogant airs at all.
She was really much better than most people she had ever met.
Hu Mingmei walked slowly and soon disappeared around the corner of the courtyard. When Aunt Liu saw that Hu Mingmei had disappeared, she went to busy herself with her things. After a while, she called out, "Auntie, it's still early. Let me take you out for a walk!"
Then, they pushed the old lady out.
The entire Bai family fell silent immediately.
Hu Mingmei appeared in the courtyard at this moment. He had been waiting for Aunt Liu and the others to leave, and naturally knew that he was the only one left in the Bai family at this time.
So he quickly walked towards the two rooms on the far east side, reached out and pushed open the door of the first room. He saw a large bed and a small bed next to it, and he knew whose room it was.
The old woman and the servant.
This was not his destination, so Hu Mingmei closed the door and left, heading towards the second room.
As soon as the door opened, a fresh scent wafted in. Hu Mingmei stepped inside and closed the door behind her.
This appears to be Bai Nuo's room, and it's larger than the room he's currently living in.
A large bed, a dressing table, a table with a vase containing a few wildflowers, a shelf next to the dressing table with a few books on it, and a large cabinet—that's all the furnishings in Bai Nuo's room.
Hu Mingmei went inside and first looked at the dressing table. There was nothing special on the dressing table except for a dim bronze mirror, a wooden comb and a few hair ribbons on it.
Then, Hu Mingmei took out the books from the shelf and looked at them. They were all books on poetry and policy, as well as a calligraphy copybook. There was also a pen holder on the shelf with several calligraphy brushes inside, and next to the pen holder was an inkstone and a box of unused ink.
Opening the calligraphy book, she saw it filled with characters. Unlike the other women's calligraphy, the characters here were written in a bold and elegant style. If she didn't know that a girl lived here, Hu Mingmei would have thought that the characters were written by a man.
After looking at the bookshelf, Hu Mingmei opened Bai Nuo's wardrobe. There weren't many clothes on it, only a few summer outfits hanging on the rack, all of which were already coordinated.
Looking at these things, Hu Mingmei couldn't help but feel puzzled. According to what Aunt Liu had said, Bai Nuo's family shouldn't be poor. Moreover, looking at these beds, tables, wardrobes, bookshelves, and the like, they weren't made of ordinary wood at all, but of precious wood, and the workmanship was exquisite, obviously crafted with care. But why was the furnishing in this room so strange? On the expensive table, there was a cheap vase with wildflowers growing on it, and on the wardrobe with its exquisite carvings, clothes made of coarse cotton and linen hung.
