Bai Nuo's words earned him a heavy "Hmph!" from Hu Mingmei.
Having stepped on a tiger's tail, Bai Nuo didn't dare to delay and quickly explained what had happened. "I suspect it was Zheng Qing'er who did it!" Zheng Qing'er had always coveted Hu Mingmei, so it was perfectly normal for Hu Mingmei to marry someone else after she died.
"Is there any evidence?" Hu Mingmei asked.
Bai Nuo shook her head, "No, only intuition!" There was evidence, but none of it pointed to Zheng Qing'er; it all pointed to a scapegoat.
"But how did Zheng Qing'er get involved with Prince Cheng?" Bai Nuo asked curiously. Although Prince Cheng hadn't said a word for Zheng Qing'er just now, she had observed carefully that when Zheng Qing'er cried, Prince Cheng was clearly distressed, and his gaze lingered on Zheng Qing'er more often.
"Who knows?" Hu Mingmei said indifferently, her reaction not very enthusiastic.
"Hey!" Bai Nuo crawled over and let Hu Mingmei hug her. "If Zheng Qing'er really has something going on with Prince Cheng, then wouldn't the Zheng family be relying on Prince Cheng's powerful backing? That would be very dangerous for us!" The key point is that if she wants to take revenge, it won't be so easy!
Hu Mingmei's reaction remained indifferent throughout, "Who knows? We'll know tomorrow whether that's the case or not!"
"Can't you be a little more enthusiastic and anxious?" Bai Nuo was so angry at Hu Mingmei's attitude that her teeth itched. She reached out and pulled on Hu Mingmei's face.
"I'm so anxious right now, I'm incredibly anxious!" Hu Mingmei let her pull his face, then wrapped her up in his arms, Bai Nuo's entire body pressed against Hu Mingmei's chest, leaving no gap between them. Bai Nuo smiled ingratiatingly, but Hu Mingmei looked down at her, gritting his teeth in hatred, and slapped her hard. "I'm in a hurry to teach you a lesson right now!"
hiss!
Bai Nuo gasped. The slap landed on flesh, not too hard, but hard enough to make one's teeth ache. "I just wanted to see what Zheng Qing'er was up to. Who knew she would pull such a stunt? Luckily, Donglai was there. I know that because Donglai was in the shadows, they didn't know anything, which is why I dared to do this. Please forgive me since I wasn't hurt!"
Hu Mingmei gave a soft snort, remaining silent and not looking at her; looking at her made him angry.
This guy is really angry! Bai Nuo thought to herself that she was doomed. Although Hu Mingmei ignored her, she didn't dare not coax her master. Seeing that none of this worked, Bai Nuo kissed Hu Mingmei.
Hu Mingmei ignored her and let her do as she pleased. In the end, Bai Nuo was so tired that she slid down. Hu Mingmei quickly scooped her up and looked at her with a smile in his eyes, "Not going to kiss me anymore?"
Bai Nuo shook her head, "No, no, it's too tiring."
"Take a nap!" Hu Mingmei gently patted Bai Nuo's back, letting her lean against him and finding her a comfortable position.
"Aren't you angry anymore?" Bai Nuo murmured softly.
Hu Mingmei shook his head, hugged Bai Nuo tighter, and lowered his eyes, his gaze deep and intense.
Zheng Family
Inside the Zheng family hall, everyone from Zheng Lin to a three-year-old child was extremely nervous. Everyone who could speak with authority had come to the hall. Such a grand gathering was all because one person had arrived—the fourth son of the current emperor, Prince Cheng.
Oh, and standing next to him was none other than Zheng Lin's daughter, Zheng Qing'er. When Zheng Lin saw his daughter standing next to Prince Cheng, his eyelids kept twitching.
When did his daughter get involved with Prince Cheng? She just went to Prince Cheng's mansion for a banquet, how did she end up having an affair with him?
What did King Cheng mean by sending his daughter back?
"Father!" Zheng Qing'er walked over and hugged Zheng Lin's hand. Unlike Zheng Lin's nervousness, Zheng Qing'er felt very happy. "This is Prince Cheng. Because I was injured at the Prince's residence, the Prince personally escorted me back!"
Zheng Qing'er was worried that Zheng Lin might not recognize Prince Cheng, so she made a special introduction.
Zheng Lin thought to himself, even if Zheng Qing'er was injured, the affairs of the Prince's mansion's backyard were handled by Princess Cheng. Even if his daughter was injured, Princess Cheng should have sent someone to bring her back. Why did Prince Cheng come in person? If people saw this, what would others think of the Zheng family?
Countless thoughts raced through his mind, but Zheng Lin remained outwardly enthusiastic. He walked over and bowed respectfully and gratefully to Prince Cheng, saying, "Thank you, Your Highness. Please take a seat!"
"No, no!" Prince Cheng simply refused, not intending to linger. He glanced at Zheng Qing'er with a smile, "I have important matters to attend to today. Now that Miss Zheng has arrived home safely, I am relieved. I will visit you another day. Farewell!"
Prince Cheng was very approachable, and it seemed that he was relieved after sending Zheng Qing'er home. Zheng Lin tried to persuade Prince Cheng to stay, but to no avail, so he had no choice but to send Prince Cheng away.
"Father!" Zheng Qing'er greeted Zheng Lin as soon as he returned. "Has the Prince gone back?"
"Hmm!" Zheng Lin replied with a gloomy tone, his hands behind his back, and strode into the hall, plopping down on the floor. Huang Yi'an, noticing Zheng Lin's unpleasant expression, tentatively asked, "Father, what did the Prince say to you?"
No sooner had Huang Zi'an finished speaking than Zheng Lin slammed his hand on the table, startling everyone. Madam Wang exclaimed in displeasure, "Master, what are you doing? You scared me to death!"
"What are you doing?" Zheng Lin roared angrily at Wang Shi. "You're asking me what I'm doing? Why don't you ask what your good daughter has done? How did she get involved with Prince Cheng?"
"Father!" Zheng Qing'er quickly explained when she saw that Zheng Lin was angry, "I was injured, and Prince Cheng sent me back!"
