Chapter 227 My Cousin Wants Your Forgiveness

The voice wasn't quiet. Bai Nuo heard Princess Cheng laughing and saying something to the person speaking. Immediately afterward, Bai Nuo heard the person say, "Hmph, sister-in-law, you're getting more and more casual, bringing all sorts of people together. Aren't you afraid of burying our status?"

The old woman who was leading the way for Bai Nuo paused for a moment, glancing at Bai Nuo somewhat uncomfortably. Bai Nuo, however, seemed not to have heard a word. Seeing Bai Nuo's expression, the old woman quickly concealed her surprise and led Bai Nuo towards the pavilion.

At the garden gate, Princess Cheng was talking to a woman dressed in equally luxurious attire. This woman was the wife of the Fifth Prince, Prince Ming. Princess Cheng looked at Princess Ming and smiled, "Fifth sister-in-law, we are all family. What's this talk of burying or not burying?"

"Hmph!" Princess Ming sneered, looking at Bai Nuo's back with disdain, "If Fourth Sister-in-law says we are family with Young Master Hu, I'm willing to admit it, but this woman wants to be family with us? No way! I've heard that this woman's background isn't even that of a humble family, she's just a village girl. I don't know what Young Master Hu was thinking. So many noble ladies from the capital want to marry him, but he didn't want any of them and chose a village girl instead."

Princess Cheng looked at Princess Ming with a smile on her face, "Alright, stop talking. It's sunny outside, why don't you go inside and cool off?" She had gone to great lengths to invite her here, and there was no reason for Princess Ming to offend her. If she offended her right at her own doorstep, wouldn't everyone laugh at her?

It's one thing to make fun of her, but if she implicates her husband, then she, as a princess, truly deserves to die.

After all, she was hoping to use Bai Nuo to get to know Hu Mingmei, so that her husband could accomplish his great cause.

The sixth prince is pressing harder and harder. There isn't just one sixth prince in the Great Zhou Dynasty; there are also the eldest, second, and third princes. The eldest prince is the one with the best chance of becoming the crown prince. If the fifth prince's wife messes things up, wouldn't all their years of planning go to waste?

My husband is determined to acquire the Hu family's assets.

Thinking about it this way, Princess Cheng disliked Princess Ming even more. How could a princess like you have no manners at all?

Although Princess Cheng felt disgusted, she didn't show it. Princess Ming's mood instantly brightened. "Really? The Summer Retreat Pearl is really with you?"

"Of course it's true!" Princess Cheng nodded. "My husband gave me all the summer-cooling beads, and I couldn't enjoy them all by myself, so I held this banquet. Otherwise, why do you think I invited you here?"

Princess Ming smiled and said, "My sister-in-law is so considerate of me!" She said this and left with a smile.

"Go, don't let anyone upset Young Madam Hu!" Princess Cheng said to the wet nurse beside her as Princess Ming went inside.

"Yes!" The wet nurse, Granny Zhu, also knew that the purpose of this banquet was simply to get on Bai Nuo's good side and bring the Hu family to their side. Everyone else was just there to make up the numbers, and Bai Nuo was someone they couldn't afford to offend.

Seeing that Granny Zhu had left in a hurry, Princess Cheng finally felt relieved and put on a polite smile as she stood aside waiting for the guests to arrive.

The guests felt very comfortable today. The garden was full of flowers and the scenery was breathtaking. Not only was the hostess, Princess Cheng, waiting for them outside, regardless of their status, which made them feel very pleased.

Moreover, after they entered, they were treated to fine tea and snacks, and everything was done with great care, which made these women like Princess Cheng even more.

Everyone says that Princess Cheng is a gentle, elegant, and dignified person, and seeing her today, I can confirm it's true.

As for Bai Nuo, after entering the pavilion, she saw that quite a few people were already seated around her. She knew which families these people belonged to thanks to the information given to her by Granny Wang. After she entered, the entire pavilion quieted down. Some people looked at her with curiosity, while others looked at her with disdain. These were all relatives of officials, well aware of the happenings in the capital. Not only did she recognize the people here, but they also recognized her.

The pavilion fell silent instantly, the atmosphere froze, and everyone stared at Bai Nuo expectantly. Bai Nuo smiled and said, "Madam Hu greets all the ladies!"

Even if some people inside looked down on Bai Nuo, since she had already greeted them with a smile, they felt embarrassed to slap her in the face. Besides, this was in the Prince Cheng's residence, and they didn't want to embarrass the Prince Cheng and his wife. So someone immediately said to Bai Nuo, "Young Madam Hu, it's sunny outside. Don't stand outside, come in and sit down!"

Bai Nuo walked in with a smile, and everyone's expressions became even stranger when they saw her calm and unhurried.

The conversation in the pavilion didn't stop because of Bai Nuo's arrival, but it wasn't as lively as it had been at the beginning. After everyone had been sitting for half an hour, a maidservant from Princess Cheng's side came over to invite everyone to take their seats.

So everyone followed the maid toward the pleasure boat. Once Bai Nuo boarded the boat, she discovered that the hall inside was very well decorated, reflecting the wealth of the royal family. It was not simple just because it was a boat. As soon as she entered the hall, a cool breeze greeted her.

Bai Nuo glanced around the hall and noticed a dark green bead placed around the perimeter, emanating a faint chill. Bai Nuo was quite surprised by what she saw.

These beads are neither air conditioners nor ice cubes, but they are just like air conditioners, and they don't take up much space.
