Does the promise in Chapter 160 still stand?

"Little girl!" The strange old man, who had gotten up at some point, found her and said, "Thank you for taking care of me last night. It's dawn now, I should be going!"

Upon hearing that the strange old man was leaving, Bai Nuo immediately climbed down the ladder. "Are you leaving so soon? Do you have anywhere to go? Why don't you stay here for a couple more days?"

If he leaves, where will she find a chef with exceptional skills?

"The world is vast, and we can make our home anywhere!" the strange old man said with a smile. If Hu Mingmei hadn't told her that he was an oddball and what he had done in the past, Bai Nuo would have really thought he was a very optimistic old man.

The old man turned to leave, but Bai Nuo grabbed him in a moment of panic. She carefully chose her words, "Winter is almost here. How can an old man like you survive out there all alone? I have a restaurant and a clothing store that are about to open. I can offer you a job. Why don't you stay and help me?"

"I don't need any work!" To everyone's surprise, the old man's expression changed drastically when Bai Nuo put it so tactfully. He became serious and shook off Bai Nuo's hand. "I've had enough of freedom and I don't like being tied down. You should find someone else. Thank you for your kindness."

With that, the old man strode out.

Bai Nuo was very disappointed.

The old man, carrying his belongings, walked angrily down the village road and stopped at the entrance of the village.

Hu Mingmei, Lu Ying, and Xia Donglai stood on the village road, looking at him expressionlessly.

The old man felt a slight ache in his heart, as if bitten by an ant, but he lowered his eyes to hide his emotions, and walked to the side, intending to pass by.

"Senior Dugu, shall we have a chat?" Hu Mingmei spoke up just as the old man was about to pass by Hu Mingmei and the others.

Ignore him and get away!

This was what the old man was thinking, but for some reason, he said aloud, "I don't know you, and I have nothing to say to you!"

Hu Mingmei had a warm smile on his lips. "We had dinner together last night. Don't you recognize us anymore, senior?"

As Hu Mingmei spoke, she pulled off the jade pendant she always wore and waved it in front of her eyes. "If you don't recognize us, then do you recognize this?"

Old Man Dugu thought to himself, "Don't look at anything," but he still turned his head as if possessed. With that turn, he became excited, grabbed the jade pendant in his hand, looked at it incredulously, then at Hu Mingmei, and asked incredulously, "How did this jade pendant end up in your hands!"

Hu Mingmei lowered his eyes, as if he had heard a joke. "What's mine is naturally in my hands!"

"Your things!" the old man muttered to himself, "Your things... Who is Hu Jingwen to you?"

Hu Mingmei said calmly, "My grandmother... left me this jade pendant. Can we talk now?"

A look of shock flashed across the old man's face, but it took him a while to calm down before he nodded.

"Please!" Hu Mingmei said, leading the old man to his carriage. He got into the carriage first, and the old man followed him in.

Lu Ying and Xia Donglai stood guard on either side of the carriage.

Once they arrived at a place where there were only two people, the old man Dugu couldn't wait to ask, "How is your grandmother...?"

He felt extremely bitter inside, but he tried his best to control himself and put on a calm and nonchalant demeanor, speaking as if he were asking a junior he hadn't seen for many years.

It has indeed been many years. So many years have passed, and that person even has children now.

“My grandmother has passed away!” Hu Mingmei said calmly. “Fifteen years!”

Fifteen years ago, when he was four years old, he witnessed his grandmother's death. Unrelated people joined the Hu family. Ten years ago, his parents died, and the Hu family changed hands.

"How could this be?" Old Man Dugu couldn't hold back any longer. He stood up abruptly and bumped his head on the top of the carriage with a thud. The pain in his head brought him back to his senses and helped him calm down.

He sat down again and asked incredulously, "When did this happen? Wasn't she perfectly fine?"

Hu Mingmei suppressed his temper and patiently repeated, "She passed away fifteen years ago. When did you hear about her, senior? Fifteen years ago?"

No one knows how he survived in a place full of menacing threats.

Old Man Dugu sensed the sarcasm in Hu Mingmei's words and said with some difficulty, "Ten years ago..."

Ten years have passed in the blink of an eye. In these ten years, he has not received any news from that person. Unexpectedly, the first time he heard from him after ten years, it was such news.

No wonder Hu Mingmei looked so familiar when he first saw her; she really was her descendant.

"Heh..." Hu Mingmei chuckled lightly, "You've been fooled. That was news deliberately spread by Huang Wenbai!" After her grandmother and parents passed away, Hu Mingmei always called her grandfather by his full surname and given name, never "Grandpa".

The old man fell silent again. A thought flashed through his mind, and it was this thought that struck him like a heavy blow. He came back to his senses and asked excitedly, "How did she die?"

"Poisoning!" Hu Mingmei said calmly, as if she were talking about someone else's business, without any emotion. "Huang Wenbai did it!"
