She instinctively picked it up and saw that it was a delicate little cloth bag, embroidered with daisies in yellow and blue thread, and every stitch was so familiar to her.
She stared blankly for a moment, then squeezed the contents of the bag. They were small, hard objects, and from the tightly folded opening, she could faintly smell the sweet aroma of maltose.
...That's right, this is a bag of candy that she carefully selected from a small stall and bought to give to Liu Fengmian.
Why is this thing on Yuwen Sheng?
She suddenly remembered that Liu Fengmian always had a very special, fragrant scent, as if it was something that lingered around him to cover up something.
In the past, she always viewed Yuwen Sheng through the lens of a "living Yama," and always avoided him. Whenever she had to meet him, she never dared to linger her gaze on him for more than three seconds, let alone get so close that she could smell his scent.
But not long ago, when he rescued her from the barbarians, he held her in his arms, and she vaguely smelled a very unique yet familiar scent on him.
However, the strong smell of blood in the surroundings affected her judgment.
Looking back now, that unique fragrance, faint and almost imperceptible from afar but intensely sweet up close, was exactly the same as the one on Liu Fengmian.
But... how is that possible?
Perhaps Yuwen Sheng simply found Liu Fengmian's candy bag. She shouldn't think too far ahead; such a fantastical thing would never happen in real life.
Be careful not to get my things dirty.
When Yuwen Sheng saw her pick up the candy bag he had dropped, his eyes suddenly widened, seemingly unaware that the bloodstains on her hands would stain his candy bag.
My heart skipped a beat.
Zheng Quchi was trembling uncontrollably.
Perhaps because of her doubts, she now felt that if his voice were gentler, lower, and deliberately weaker and more subdued, it would sound just like... Liu Fengmian.
Zheng Quchi asked, "You said... this is yours? Is it filled with maltose?"
Actually, determining whether he is her or not is quite simple. He is right next to her, completely unsuspecting. All she has to do is reach out and gently lift his mask...
Yes, while Zheng Quchi was thinking this way, her hands had already done so.
Suddenly, when that familiar face appeared, Zheng Quchi's eyes froze.
It's not uncommon for people in the world to have similarities, but... the two luscious red moles at the corners of his eyes are truly unique.
After a long period of gloom, the sky finally welcomed the last snow of winter. Like falling feathers, it fluttered down and leaped into Zheng Quchi's bewildered and shocked eyes.
The wind below the cliff is biting. As the snowflakes swirl and fall, just as they are about to land on a person's shoulder, a gust of wind blows them up, higher and higher, farther and farther away.
Yuwen Sheng's skin was whiter and more translucent than snow, his eyebrows and eyes were thick and bold like a full-on makeup, his pupils were deep and dark like the reflection of a spring on a rippling wave, and his lips were red and lustrous, like a ghostly figure devouring souls and greedily seeking spirits amidst the north wind and peach blossoms.
His arms tightened suddenly, a strand of hair fell down his cheek, tangling with his long, dark eyelashes and obscuring the bloodshot look in his eyes.
At this moment, the way he stared at Zheng Quchi had changed; he was now looking at a dead man who dared to break the taboo.
"Who gave you permission to remove my mask?"
"You forgot what I just said... a secret should always remain a secret, and anyone who tries to reveal a secret will only suffer a terrible death."
"You saw it all, didn't you?"
Originally, out of respect for Zheng Quchi, he intended to spare "his" life, but apart from Zheng Quchi, no one else in this world could live after seeing the "phoenix tears" on his face.
He wouldn't allow anyone to know that this secret was still alive.
He lowered his eyes, a sinister smile curving his lips, and slowly released his grip, letting Zheng Quchi weakly try to hold on tight, but in the end, he could only let go one finger at a time.
Yuwen Sheng was provoked by the barbarian's words and his blood and qi were affected. His head was throbbing. Disgusting scenes from the past kept assaulting his mind. His cold, pale fingers touched the "phoenix tears" at the corners of his eyes, which looked as red as if they were dripping blood.
But he still laughed strangely and cheerfully. Snow fell on his slowly drooping eyelashes, melted, and slowly slid down his cheeks, like tears and blood.
“Sang Xuanqing, you are not Zheng Quchi, you have no right to ask me to break my principles for you.”
Zheng Quchi found it hard to accept that "Liu Fengmian" was actually the same person as Yuwen Sheng. Her mind seemed to have crashed. However, when she sensed Yuwen Sheng's murderous intent, she suddenly snapped back to reality and became completely clear-headed.
She looked up, her expression indescribably complex.
She recognized him, but he didn't recognize her.
Even after he finished speaking, he gave Sang Xuanqing no chance whatsoever, and struck her down with a single palm strike.
"puff--"
Zheng Quchi felt blood welling up in her throat, and the rapid descent caused air to rush into her throat. She tried to speak, but her voice became hoarse and incoherent, making it impossible for her to accurately convey her meaning.
As she fell, coughing up blood, amidst a flurry of white snow, her bloodshot eyes remained fixed on him, as if witnessing something unbelievable and unacceptable.
Her broken, powerless gaze fixed on him stirred a strange sense of unease in Yuwen Sheng, who stood on the edge of the cliff watching her with cold eyes.
At this moment, a haughty and cold voice suddenly came from the opposite bank: "Yuwen Sheng, you are really heartless. You held onto her and then let go. Isn't that the same as giving her hope and then shattering it with your own hands? Since you don't want her anymore, then let our Julu Kingdom take her back."
